    5 minutes walk, great padteries

I would give them six stars if I could. The place is just a few feet from the beach, the rooms are being renovated but are still very comfortable. Management is fun to talk with because they're very friendly, the entire staff! There's a lot to see and do and walk to within 10 minutes. Park and explore. We will definitely be coming back here.

Peaceful, relaxing overlooking the bay. Taking in the Local luxurious colonial gardens on the way to Morning coffee or browsing local art. Grab the trolley to the victory center, lay on the beach or by the pool. Or just people watch. Thursday in the summer has live music on the green, farmers market on Saturday mornings... Close enough to Williamsburg if you want more shops. We really enjoy watching the storms come in in the late afternoons, dolphins swim by at tea time. Duke of York has the best vantage point .

Disgusting location Housekeeping left the door to our room open all day long We got told they may have forgotten to go back. That's nice. Thanks Woke up one morning to a cockroach climbing the bed my kids were sleeping in. Called the office and they acted as if it was a joke. Front desk personal is to busy standing outside smoking to actually care.

Let me just start by saying I would NEVER consider staying at this hotel ever again. My husband and I attended a family event in Yorktown and decided to get a room and spend the weekend in Yorktown. We got a pet friendly room. The room was absolutely disgusting. Needing a renovation is an understatement. This hotel needs to be gutted. The room was dirty, trash behind the nightstands, wallpaper tearing off of the walls, stained furniture, stains on the ceiling, floors, bathtub and ceiling. Carpet is very old and disgusting. Cobwebs in the corners and the room smelled musty. Then to top it off, as we are sitting and watching television we see a HUGE COCKROACH CLIMBING ON THE WALL!! I just pray we didn't bring anything home with us (bedbugs, roaches, etc). They didn't clean the room while we were out or refresh the towels. Nothing. This hotel isn't cheap either. When I pay $240 a night for a hotel room I would expect it to be clean and sanitary at the very least. I wouldn't recommend staying here. Nor will I ever return

Checked in on Sunday, 8/28/22 and we were greeted with by Lea-Lea (5-stars) with a great smile and welcoming spirit. Room was clean and spacious even with the Jacuzzi taking up 1/3 of the room(4.5stars). Loved the onsite free parking and the accessibility. (5-stars). Hotel Front Desk staff, Hailey (5-stars) was awesome and informative when we visited with her on several occasions. Even though the hotel was undergoing renovations, we never heard any loud construction noise or experienced any dust or smells usually associated with large scaled renovations. (Thumbs-up!) Unfortunately, there is one complaint that stands out and I can't let go! We stayed on on the second floor of the Chesapeake building that indicated beach/river front views. However, views were VERY obstructed by the row of blooming trees(when standing) and balcony railing (when seated) that was eye level. PLEASE CUT THE TREES DOWN TO HALF THEIR HEIGHT!!!! And slim up the balcony decorative railing for a truly beach and river front view. (1-star) Overall, our stay was wonderful and we plan to visit again, and requesting a room on a higher floor. Thank you!!

if 0 stars was the option I'd rate it that. I visited with a friend and this is an $80 a night room if that- lawn furniture, no ventilation in bathrooms, the hallway smelt like mold, went downstairs to a woman who was clearly drinking as our "concierge" who gestured me 1 second while she chatted on her cell phone to ask about ice because there was no phone in the room... I rarely get any time off of work- views great but I wish I stayed somewhere else for the money and just drove to the beach. The owner is completely rude and wants nothing to do with any issues... basically told us he had no time. And I've seen the reviews and how they were reacted to- I have pictures and videos saved on my phone. I loved the Duke of York, what happened to actually caring how someone's stay was?

Worst hotel stay ever. For $158 per night this hotel should come with a disclaimer that says "Absolutely no refunds" and "Rent As Is". There were spider webs in the shower. The tub was not clean and had hair left from the last guest. The coffee maker was broken. And the peak of the hotel stay was that we had to share the room with roaches. At least they ran under the refrigerator when I turned on the lights. Never again will I stay here. Oh. It gets one star because the front desk clerk was apologetic and gave us another room. We still had roaches in the next room.

The hotel has been my regular go-to whenever I visit Yorktown, going on for about 10 years now. The amenities and the reasonable price make a difference. There's an indoor pool, a hot buffet breakfast included in the price of the room, there's wi-fi, a decent fitness center, and a functioning business center. Under Hilton's reservation system I was able to select my room the day before I arrived and was able to use Hilton's app to download the key to my room a couple of hours before the posted check-in time. The same thing was true when I checked out - tapped the app and my receipt was emailed to me within the hour. Nearby, there's a Burger King, and there's a Subway across the parking lot; there are also moderately priced restaurants and bars and a full-service grocery store and Virginia ABC store within a minute or two walking distance. I usually ride on Amtrak to get to Newport News from D.C., and the recently opened station is gorgeous. Lyft and Uber are well-supported, and I was able to schedule an early Sunday morning Lyft for about $25 for the 20-minute ride from the hotel to Amtrak (it costs less than that if you don't need to schedule in advance). Upon arriving at the hotel, I was recognized as a Diamond-tiered Hilton Honors member and offered snacks based on that status. The front desk staff members have consistently been welcoming, courteous, and helpful. I sampled the breakfast offerings, which included both oatmeal and grits, biscuits and gravy, and waffles, in addition to bagels, muffins, cereals, eggs, sausage, fruit, and yogurt. The breakfast staff members were friendly, kept the place clean and filled with all the fixings. My wife and kids have made the Hampton Inn Newport News-Yorktown our destination of choice; now our kids are bringing their young families there as well. Five stars for a job well done.

I feel so strongly about sharing my recommendation to stay here that this is my first-ever (and possibly only) Yelp review. The rooms, property, restaurant quality food, and service were impeccable. Sherry, Ridge, and Sara are so kind and will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best stay, even communicating months in advance to see if we had any requests. The unlimited ice cream and snack bars, speakeasy and all-seasons room were our favorite amenities, but the list is plentiful. Our room had a private patio with firepit, heated bathroom floors, a soaking tub, and so much more. It was beyond clean and comfortable! The icing on the cake: they are pet-friendly, and even provided organic dog treats to our corgi. We came in March for my birthday (they gave me flowers, a note, and a gift) and are already planning a trip back in the summer to utilize the heated pool, kayaks, bikes, and other outdoor activities. A must-see for a relaxing getaway or event, just a short drive to the charming town of Mathews. Thank you to our hosts for a fantastic weekend!

Upon arrival, we were told that the mobile key feature wasn't working and hadn't been for over a month. We then go to our room and put our stuff down because we needed to run some quick errands before stores closed. Upon arriving back at the hotel I began to do my normal process of checking the bed etc. I found that there was what appeared to be either blood or someone had something cheesy in the inside comforter layer. Which meant either you didn't wash it or you need to just throw it away. Either way disgusting! We decided we would just sleep on top and call the front desk in the morning because we were too tired from traveling and running errands. The next morning we awake and decide we'll take my showers etc before calling down so we could be ready to meet up with family. To our surprise, there was hair in the tub and then when my husband cut the shower on, it began to back up like it was flooding. After taking a half shower, he called down and asked to change rooms. He was rudely told we couldn't because they were sold out and that it would have to wait. He then expressed that we were at the hotel for several days. Then the lady said she would send maintenance but we would have to wait. He told her that was unacceptable and when he asked for a manager, she then said it would be 20 mins. Maintenance showed up with a serious mean mug on his face like he was beyond irritated that he had to come and do some work in our room. After evaluating the situation, he stated he needed to grab additional tools and he came back and fixed the issue. Overall, I give this hotel a 1 out of 10 and only because zero isn't an option. Definitely won't ever stay at that location again.
