Having stayed at boutique hotels here and in the UK, the skimpy breakfast option provided was disappointing.....well, it was nonexistent. Cereal and fruit were empty. I don't expect a European spread, but a simple continental breakfast was, in fact, part of the reservation. We finally just left. Post-survey, nobody followed up. Customer service was so terrible (other than the people working the front desk). The front desk team was helpful and professional. So, clean room and front desk team was great, comfort and customer service were nonexistent. Not a good experience AT ALL.

The room even had direct tv and proper air conditioning. The only thing that I wasn't pleased about was the bed not being as comfortable as I wanted. I just wish I was able to stay more than a night. Our host, Mike, is a history buff which played into our interests perfectly. On top of piquing my interest enough to look some corresponding topics up when home, he has a particular soft spot for General Lee. Mike also steered us in the right direction for dinner (The Oyster Farm, but that's another review!). Before leaving, Mike served us and the other two couples who were in-house (and we never heard a peep from) a fabulous breakfast that would be the fuel to the next leg of our journey up the coast. I will be writing him personally for a couple of recipes! I'm not much of an egg fan but he made a casserole that was so light and fluffy with vegetables, that I ate the whole piece and it was substantial. There was fresh fruit, tea or coffee (which is also place outside of the rooms from 6am), juice, sausage (which I AM a fan of!) and a wonderful muffin that had a name, but I don't recall. The room we're staying in is really run down. Didn't look like anyone cleaned the room, the tub has a HUGE disgusting stain on it, there were flies and a BIG OL SPIDER. Unfortunately we don't have anywhere else to go since we already paid. We had no choice but to go get a bottle of lysol and disinfect the whole entire room. If the room wasn't bad enough, on their website it said they had a pool and free continental breakfast but I was just informed that the pool wouldn't be opening until some time in June (it's literally memorial weekend so it's crazy that it's not open) and they don't have the continental breakfast until some time in June as well. This is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. If they only have breakfast during certain times of the year then say that on your website. If the pool isn't opening memorial weekend like 99% of other hotels do, then say that! Don't waste your time at this place. I'm sure there are other better hotel/motels to stay at around here.

The choices were camping or staying at a hotel. I didn't feel like loading my car up with camping, fishing and trade-show stuff, so I checked Yelp for reviews. Sunset Resort didn't have anything available, but the Kiptopeke Inn had plenty of rooms open and was comparably priced. The rooms face outside, and my first impression was, hey this is where Earl (My Name is Earl) lives! The room had an identical set up. Tip: Be sure to fully close your curtains or what happens in your room is there for all to see. Nothing special about the room other than there is no bedside clock. I had my cell phone, but it is always nice to wake up, roll over and see the time without having to pick your phone up. There is a microwave and a fridge in there. Flat screen TV, although it is satellite TV, so the channels are limited and some are kinda fuzzy. No plates, napkins or utensils in the room. The pool looked nice, I didn't swim, but it was nicely lit at night. So why the two stars? Well, first of all, this is a $70 per night hotel. I paid (with fees and taxes) ~$150. The breakfast buffet is woeful. Several mini bagels, a few pastries, some mini muffins in plastic and not much else. Yeah, there was coffee and juice, but the cups aren't much bigger than shot glasses. I overheard some other guests say the hotel wasn't ready for prime time and that they had no hot water in their shower. At least mine was ok! After I was out fishing all day, I came back to take a shower and found although my bed was made, they hadn't replenished the tiny shampoos. After my shower I went down to the front desk to get one so I would be able to wash my hair in the morning. They were out of them (which is probably why they didn't resupply my room). To their credit, I found two shampoo containers outside of my room in the morning. So, overall, if this had been a $70 per night place, 4 stars, because my expectations would have been in line with the price (value). But given how short they fell compared to a Marriott at the same price, there is work to be done. I wouldn't dream of staying here again at the current price.

The ladies bathroom is so dark when you walk in - it does not have the same light and bright coastal vibe as the rest of the marina. This contrast is also difficult visually. Last year are main problem was not having actual shower heads in the stalls. This year, we had no hot water for our shower on Sunday morning. When we checked back in the afternoon and evening there was still no hot water. Despite the bathroom facilities, the rest of the marina is nice. Kids riding their scooters up and down the piers makes for some non-relaxing sounds on the docks. The pool was not in working order, either.

The Oyster Farm Marina has been through various changes over the last several years and have…read moreshifted roles, menus and management. It's a beautiful spot to visit and is considered part of the large Bay Creek complex. It is under that umbrella and is considered a part of the HOA and various other amenities offered by the complex. There is a gated community you'll drive past with colorful beachfront homes on the left, once you pass that you'll arrive at the Marina parking area and a large grassy field to the left houses a farmer's market during the summer with a few dozen tents with local vendors selling cookies, produce and some arts and crafts. We've visited a few times and sometimes it's very sparse and only has a few tents but during peak tourist season it usually perks up. The restaurant at the Marina doesn't seem to keep the same hours and def. doesn't have the same service and menu it had when it initially opened. They village has closed and no longer houses any shops - those have all moved to the town - it's now an event venue space that can be rented for weddings and they have several cute little colored and themed cottages on site that can be rented as part of a weekend wedding event. There is a small general store that sells some drinks and fishing supplies as well as a surprising amount of On Cloud branded gear for about half off. We love to browse this when we come to the area. It's not a spot I'd recommend for a nice dinner or hanging out as it appears to be very quiet and there isn't much going on here if you aren't fishing or boating from the Marina or here for a specific event. It is beautiful and clean and well kept.

The decor was casual, comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend. Our room had a toilet and sink, the bathroom, and shower was down the hall. The Inn was spotless and delightful. I would love to go back. We only live across the bridge in Virginia Beach, but the get away was just excellent.
