The park is only 1.5 acres but it has a dedicated parking area on the street around the corner. Signs are posted that street parking on Windy Hill Road is not permitted. The park includes a marker "This park is dedicated to Coach Yow, who in 1950, formed a youth camp that gave the children of North Myrtle Beach organized activities when none had existed. His example, dedication and love taught our children the values and citizenship for which he is remembered. Dedicated August 1984. North Myrtle Beach Mayor and City Council." This leads to teams playing up two age groups or down two age groups. It also leads to local teams pulling out at the last minute and stiffing the teams that travel to small unworthy tournaments. The event places never open on time and this causes delays throughout the day. Today in Myrtle Beach, they had a facility with eight courts but only used two and dragged the tournament on for over 12 hours when it could have been completed in six. They had sections reserved for college scouts but not a single one showed! And this is their biggest bragging point!

This little center of town makes up the perfect collection of services that make up an All-American place. There's the library I mentioned, fire station, police station, town hall and a park all wrapped up into one spot. The park itself is surrounded by a mostly paved one mile trail for walking, running or casual bike riding. Inside you can find plenty of parking, a few lit baseball fields, basketball court and even a couple football/soccer fields. There are picnic shelters, water fountains and bathroom. They even have concession stands for when the local games are played here. Last, and perhaps most important, there is a lightly attended recreation center here which I understand is free (or maybe just really cheap) to all residents of Hope Mills. In general, one would be remiss not to scope out this quiet and charming park.

Dogs need there space not to be in the middle of an active field with small dogs, ppl, children. That's a bad connection. The trainers bring dogs that have no control of their senses to a family park in an open space. Park department should not allow this. My dad trained German shepherd , Doberman and he trained them indoor until they were well trained and obedience. If they continue to get complains the park department may listen. I don't know why they are not investigating yet. I would hate to have find another park for my pup because of safety.

There is plenty of green space here and room to breathe and run around. This is a great place to come in the middle of the day as there is plenty of availability to park and enjoy everything. My parents took me here during vacations when I was a child, and now I visit with my children. The space has improved a lot over the years. There's still the beautiful small lake that the park is centered around. They've added a small dock with a covered space that includes benches. My children and I love watching all of the turtles swimming in the water below. For anyone who needs a space to run / walk, there is a paved path that circles the park. For the kids, there are two separate playgrounds -- one geared towards younger kids and one towards older kids. During the summer months, they often hold free movie nights here, complete with snacks. We watched a screening of "Lilo and Stitch" projected on a large screen that a group had set up. Bathrooms are available. A Free Little Library is next to the playgrounds. Overall, a truly great and functional little park.
