This is one of those rare opportunities to support altruism. By purchasing relatively inexpensive "you are beautiful" stickers to distribute to others around you (perhaps for going that extra mile for you) and normally getting a smile in return. I love that this organization started as an experiment and continued because people found its messages heart-warming & helpful. I have a "you are beautiful" cursive sign in my bathroom where I sometimes need this helpful reminder, and I love seeing it. I stopped in on Saturday for the "Take Care gallery opening. Very positive message and atmosphere. Nice and simple place to visit. It was a nice evening of walking around and checking out the studio. Different colorful signs and décor of positive words. Walked in the back to see the many different machines where the signs can be printed out. Light refreshments were served and to mingle other You probably have seen many signs around Chicago "You are beautiful" These words are on fences, painted on murals, and printed on signs and stickers all over Chicago. It is a great way of reminding ourselves and others on a daily basis that we are beautiful no matter what we are facing in life. The artist Matthew Hoffman started the movement 15 years ago to remind and to send out a positive affirmation to people of how valuable and amazing each of us are in this world. I came with a friend here for the grand opening to check out the space and because she had donated to the initial Kickstarter campaign. They had opened up the entire space to the public to peruse the works of art as well as the machinery used to create the pieces. Personally, I was expecting little more variety but maybe in the future. You are beautiful phrases written in 50 different languages was my favorite; it was nice to see a few lesser known languages represented. Larger pieces and clothing were scattered throughout the gallery as well. Space is clean and inviting and the intent behind space is beautiful. read more

Beautiful operation and storefront. Love the message. They have really capitalized on the message by offering a wide array of products with the message. If you can imagine it, they have it...from keychains to gloves, stickers and pins, clothes for babies to adults and even pets. I really appreciate that they have the saying in a ton of languages. They've expanded on the original message by adding a lot of pithy and uplifting phrases. The place is as clean as a whistle and the staff is fantastic. Why only 3 stars then? Well, I want there for one of their hands on activities. Inquire of them, they have many. In any case, I went to make a cribbage board. While it was super cool to see and experience the technology and big machines they use to make the products and while the instructor was really nice, the class was just not terribly organized. Frankly, we basically sat around while the instructor made each of our boards. As he was only able to do one at a time, there was a lot of sitting around time. So this place popped up right around the corner from me.. who knew?? I remember during my first Chicago stint, I saw one of these stickers on the inside of the door where I used to live on Damen. I did some googling and was hooked on the sticker project. I sent stickers to my friends around the world through my pen-pal project and everyone loved it. The stickers definitely spread a little cheer. This store has stickers for sale, among a lot of other YAB stuff. Apparel, notebooks, all sorts of stuff like that.. definitely a gift givers haven. It has some significant artwork for sale too, which isn't personally my thing. The stickers are pretty much where my interest has always been. Oh, and to answer the woman that tended to me at the register: I learned there is a small discrepancy with the Russian translation of YAB. The one you have refers to "you all (plural)" and not "you (singular)" which changes depending on formal, informal, male, or female.... good luck :D read more

I have given away more than 1,000 YAB stickers to people I know and more often, to people I haven't met before. 99.99% of the time I receive a smile or other positive reaction. Last week someone asked me for a hug after I gave him a sticker. A few weeks ago a retired veteran in a power wheelchair asked me if I would peel the backing off the sticker & put the sticker on his wheelchair and we had a wonderful chat. I've bought many other encouraging and inspirational products from them such as a YAB tee-shirt and sweatshirt that I wear many places including a prison where I volunteer and the low-income senior housing apartment buildings where I work. As a public school art teacher, I have found the You Are Beautiful campaign a wonderful artistic concept to share with my students, parents and our staff. We have used the stickers on repurposed new makeup containers filled with tiny clay sculpture and kind notes for Mother's Day.
