If you want any of afternoon teas you have to make a reservation in advance. Other than you can do a walk up. We went during the week but I can imagine you might have to wait during extra busy times. I loved how it was located on a quiet side street away from the bustle of the main roads. It added to the ambience and felt like you were in a neighborhood cafe. They also have a take away counter of the cakes and cupcakes inside as well. Something to note if you are sitting in the front part you will have people coming in and out. There's seating both inside and outside. We were seated inside and ordered from the all day menu. I did start with a pot of Vanilla Rooibos. This was right up my alley with flavor blend and not too caffeinated. I also ordered the eggs Benedict and the slice of the Carrot and Hazelnut Lemon Loaf. The standout was the Loaf cake. It wasn't overally sweet and I love a carrot cake. The lemon icing was just sweet enough to add to the cake part. It was reasonably priced and fairly fast to get a seat and order. Everyone was so friendly and it was so relaxing to enjoy on our busy day. If I'm in town again, I will come back!

They carry an array of beautiful flowers throughout the seasons, often including unusual succulents, herbs, and even thistle and wildflowers, and will happily sell you a few stems of your favorite hydrangeas or tulips. But they shine in the arranging department as well. I recently had them put together an autumnal bouquet for my dining table. It was made up of rust and yellow dahlias, a lush purple wildflower, and springs of rosemary. It lasted more than two weeks! It can be a bit pricy (I paid 30gbp for the large bouquet mentioned above), but it's excellent value for money. And I don't say that often in London, and especially not of most of the businesses near Portobello Road Market.

This was our first foray into HMF. I went in to order cakes and lattes, pay and then return to my perch on the pavement. The place, fortunately, wasn't so busy, so the goodies arrived in fairly short order. The carrot cake, moist and not overly spiced, was a treat to eat. The Victoria sponge cake, looking so good in the window, was not tasting so good in the mouth. The decorative strawberry that had been on the slice that eventually made it to our table (indentation where berry bit had been, slightly reddish stain on the whipped cream) was absent upon arrival. More importantly, the sponge cake itself was quite dry and the whipped cream layer was meager with nary a strawberry to be seen there either. Word to the wise: it's a great-looking cake, but not so great to eat. Well, at least not the one that was out when we came strolling in. The lattes, though not of 'third wave' coffee caliber, were good, and, more importantly, neither too hot, nor too cold. I'd be keen on trying breakfast there as the eggs, sausages, and tomatoes being consumed by those sitting near us looked scrumptious. Well, let's hope that they taste as good as they look!
