The pool is a great way to have some fun in the winter and rainy days in the UP. The staff is super nice and helpful. After you swim you can take the kids up for a pizza. This is a must have membership if you live anywhere close. read more

I've eaten there 5 times this summer. Mothers Day, twice for Saturday specials , once for lunch and once on a day when only bar menu was available. Everything was delicious. Service was good. And surprisingly the bar menu was varied and the food delicious. read more

This is a poorly run golf course. Played for the first time last week and I would not recommend this course. There was no starter, groups were going off as singles and twosomes and no one was willing to pair up to make things move faster. There wasn't a ranger on the course, so things were crazy slow (over 4 hours for 12 holes). We bailed after 12 to call it a day. The restaurant was the only positive, the food and service were good. read more

Very impressed. First time back today since the renovations. Brought my 3 boys to go swimming. First thing we noticed was the Sunday brunch in the Fire Brick restaurant. Looked good and made me wish I hadn't already eaten breakfast. Then we were greeted by the extremely nice gentleman at the front desk for the complex. Wish I got his name, but he was very gracious. He noticed me taking pics of my wife and our boys by their beautiful Christmas tree, and came out and made sure I got in the picture too. The locker rooms were clean and nice. The pool was great (a little cold, but it's only the 2nd day that the pool has been open so no big deal). After swimming, the boys were hungry so we ate at Fire Brick. Very impressed with the bar, TVs airing the FB games, and windows providing a great view of the outside grounds and Chicagon Lake. The food was very good too. Loved the presentation of the food and the paper that the food came out on that provided a history of how the George Young Complex came to be. Had the Cuban Panini. Very impressed. The boys enjoyed their hot dogs, Mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. My wife enjoyed her chicken wings. Very happy with the changes at the complex. Provides a much needed boost to Iron County. Keep up the good work Youngs! We'll be back. read more

Jason, very disappointed about the fish fry on Friday, 24 July at 530. First reservation was taken for 430 instead of 530 and , no, we never said 430. However all the ladies made it right and gave us a great table. But that meant that Lilly was our server. Delightful, friendly and attentive but not a server. As far as our service, it was great. As far as the food, you could use a cook/chef that understands good whitefish. Training of staff in general would be helpful. With white fish, I received drawn butter, dry fish, no slaw, potatoes I didn't order. Had to request all the rest. Sigh, I was sad Two stars only because of Lilly and her super attitude Thank you for the response Jason. Disappointedly, I am a visitor to the Iron River area and will be departing tomorrow morning so I will not be able to take you up on your offer. First impressions are everything and my first impression left a less the stellar memory about Firebrick. Good luck read more

Update...with everything going on we've been avoiding restaurants, but we thought we'd try take out from George Young and Firebrick the other night. It was awesome! We ordered by phone from our pontoon boat and they brought it down to their dock for us to pick up. So grateful that the fine folks at GY did that for us, and the food was excellent! We've lived near George Young for many years and never really considered it for dinner until now. The rchanges they've made at the restaurant, including the high level of service they now provide, are simply amazing! Great food with some local flair including fresh Lake Superior Whitefish (cakes and tacos made with the whitefish), an array of local craft beers, and excellent appetizers round out a great experience. They've also added a boat dock for access to the restaurant from Chicagon Lake. You tie up and call them, and they come down with a golf cart to ferry you up to the restaurant. Awesome! If you haven't been to George Young this year check it out...they've really made it into a great place to go! read more

We were amazed at the winding long driveway back into this place, snd the exterior was an impressive sight to behold. Five stars for that. The Fire Brick Grill itself was a tad underwhelming compared to the exterior and entrance. However, the food and service were quite good. I had the Lake Superior whitefish, bc this is not an item I'd find in the lower peninsula. Delicious, tender, and savory. The host at our Airbnb recommended this place ("cleanest kitchen in town"), and we were not disappointed. read more

White fish not good. Was in past. Entire experience was one big screwup to include charging for items not ordered or received. Menu showed coleslaw included. Didn't receive. Didn't have potatoes ordered so substituted on all orders without even asking what we'd like instead of order. Bill had wrong amounts for items. How is that possible with computer? Extremely, poorly run. Staff untrained but nice. Won't be back unless things improve. Pool still not open though authorized by state to open. Very sad. George Young and his wife would be very disappointed to see such a poorly managed situation. Everyone had hoped for improvement from the previous regime, but no where near what it should be be. Heard from several people food was bad this year but didn't really believe it as last year it was pretty decent, but now I know they were right. read more

I have been golfing here my entire life and have always enjoyed how reasonable the prices were for the excellent golfing. The re-brand and renovations that they are going through right now are excellent and the Firebrick restuarant/bar is a huge upgrade from before. They have a great, local selection of craft beer and an excellent menu (I had the frenc onion soup, which was excellent). Chris, who was running the pro shop was absolutely fantastic and is one of those people that single-handedly makes you feel welcome and want to come back. If you are on vacation in the UP, go out of your way to go here. read more

I grew up in the UP and had heard many amazing things about George Young Golf Course, finally I had the chance to visit this amazing course. The views were breath taking and the course was great however that is the only good thing I can say about it. We had a foursome golfing. We arrived about 20 minutes before our tee-time and stood in line in the pro-shop for over 30 minutes. When we finally got to pay for our golf the guy was rude and condescending to my father as we were only playing 9 holes and charged him for 18. Once out on the course we had someone complain that we had 5 people playing, which we did not however the course ranger person decided to tell us we had to let others play through...not a problem I am all about golf etiquette, but we were a foursome playing and had 4 groups behind us of twosomes, anyone who plays the game knows that a group of 4 is going to take longer than a group of 2. How about spacing tee-times accordingly? This all happened on hole 3, the entire time we felt rushed on the remaining holes and after hole 5 my parents stopped playing all together because they were upset and feeling rushed. This then upset my 12 year old son who just wanted to play a nice round of golf with his mom and grandparents. I can assure you for the amount of money we spent our experience was much less than it should have been. I can guarantee I will not be visiting your establishment again and I will be telling all my friends how terrible it was too. read more

We had a very wonderful meal and excellent service at Firebrick last night. Considering all of the restrictions and regulations they have to abide by we were very pleased. We had a wonderful prime rib dinner with excellent service. I think that they are doing a fantastic job and the food speaks for itself. read more

We were in town camping and it was pouring rain all day. Some locals told us about the nice swimming pool here at the George Young Golf Course. We decided to have a bite to eat here before we used the pool. The bartender/server (who happened to be the assistant manager) was beyond rude and it was very obvious she was annoyed to have customers. She never came back to check on us either. Pizza was burnt too. Another family came in as we were leaving and she looked towards them and said "You have got to be kidding me." On a brighter note, the gentleman in the pro shop was very helpful and friendly. He was happy to see us ealk through the door and went out of his way to make my daughter feel special! read more

Our family comes to your facility quite often. we really enjoy the nice large swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Staff is always friendly and goes out of there way to make sure you are having a good time. It is an awesome spot to take children specially in the winter months to burn off extra energy. Food is always great in dining room with reasonable prices. Could not ask for a nicer place in the northwoods. read more

Love the new energy at Young's! The food is pretty good and it's fun to see more of a crowd coming. I do miss the north woods feel of the old bar and hope management won't take more of that decor away. Would also love to see a full gym go in - it's a great location for folks like me who want to be able to burn off some of those calories :).
