The below conversation basically confirms the lack of customer service ive been referring to. I have been contacted by the owner of the company and will report the issue to the better business bureau. As a consumer, I do not appreciate being told that my reviews are slanderous or for the owner to continue going back and forth with me over an issue I had, while still not addressing the issues I had as a consumer. Below is the correspondence that I received from the owner. Note to all: read your contract. I'm not disputing this company's billing policy, but know that you will be charged for services prior to actually having the service and if the services are cancelled (whether by the company or you) you will not receive a refund but a credit. Just be forewarned. ******* Honestly Tracy, If you update it or not that is up to you. All the info about those policies is public on our website and clients sign our agreement before they begin service so if they do not like that aspect they know from the beginning. I do not need further response I just wanted to make sure your comment on us not refunding your money was not something out of our policies as your review makes it sound as if we just took your money for nothing. As I have reviewed your account it does not appear we took any money beyond the services you requested. Your account has been closed and we wish you the best. YDS is awesome! Julia is awesome! I was unsure of the whole dog-walker process/idea but it came out of necessity because I started grad school and I have a full-time job. The online scheduling process has been a breeze (once you get the hang of it - the first time you definitely need to watch the tutorial). I LOVE the notes that Julia leaves because I feel so much better and secure that I'm leaving Finn (my dog) in safe hands. I also feel that she knows him really well and they make me laugh. I often read them to my Mom when I get home because she gets a kick out of them too. I can also tell that she cares for him and will look out for him. As the rest of you dog owners know, that's a huge trusting point. And, I know that Finn loves her too. YDS has been very reliable and trustworthy. They've also helped me out in a pinch and saved me! Julia and Meghan rock! We have a very nervous German Shepherd, and they keep him happy and healthy when we can't be at home. We've used their services three times so far, and each time we are extremely pleased. This past weekend, Julia watched our pup and after hearing about the storms and power outages, you can imagine how nervous I was to know he was OK. Julia responded quickly to my text messages to reassure me. YDS gives you more than just peace of mind while you have to be away from your pet. You'll get notes from every visit, and sometimes your pup will even get a little extra exercise (thanks for jogging with Hans, Meghan!). :-) Booking online is simple and convenient. I can't say enough about Your Dog Smiles. I needed a pet sitter for a quickly arranged trip out of the country, and Colleen was able to accomodate my request for four visits per day. Each of the pet sitters (Julia, Lisa, and Brian) came to the house for the meet and greet, so it was great to see who would be taking care of my boy! Plus, their frequent email updates as to Alex's (my 12 year old Lab mix) status and well-being calmed my very worried mind. Pet sitter Lisa was particularly responsive, as she understood my concerns about leaving Alex alone all day, so her emails were very detailed and I feel she went above and beyond what was expected. She is awesome!! I just booked another reservation with YDS for next month, and will be using them from this point forward for all of my midday dog walking and pet sitting needs. I used YDS services for three days last month and I was completely happy with the experience! Julia and Rachel were terrific with my 4 lb Peke-a-Poo! They left details for every day and when I returned, he was just as happy as he was before I left! Very well taken care of! I would definitely use their services again! Great walkers, TERRIBLE OWNER-- I have been using YDS for a few months now. The huge plus side is that the walkers are FANTASTIC. As far as management goes-- steer clear at all costs. I've actually never been treated so poorly by a customer service "professional" as I was treated by Colleen Flanagan. I asked that she not return my call because I didn't want to interact with her any longer and she said "well I'm the owner. If you don't like me as a person then this may not be a good fit." I made this request because I had just spent 20 minutes being disgusted by her crude attempts at conflict resolution. Just be prepared to deal with an overly emotional and unprofessional business owner. Otherwise the dog care has always been good. read more

I had high hopes for Your Dog Smiles when I purchased a deal through LivingSocial. I've had intentions of looking for a dog walker for months and thought this would be a quick/convenient way to try a service and determine if there was long term potential. (the ideal theory behind the daily deals business). Unfortunately things did not work out, and I felt it necessary to share my experience on yelp, since the online reputation was what prompted me to purchase the deal in the first place. I filled out the online forms, submitted my dog's updated vaccine records, and had the 10 minute "meet and greet" session with a dog walker. That was the extent of service received, and my deal was marked 'redeemed" BEFORE the meet and greet session even happened, nevermind any dog walking sessions (the deal was supposed to include 5 - 30 minute dog walking sessions). The dog walker said my dog passed the session with flying colors, and she was excited to take him for walks. (he's a very friendly lab) After the initial meet and greet, there were several back and forth emails when I was trying to coordinate a time for someone to walk my dog. (Whenever I tried reaching them over the phone, I only got voicemail). The response was either extremely delayed or never happened. Needless to say, the last email I received stated the deal had expired and she would only honor the $50 I had originally spent to purchase the deal. What a waste of $50. LivingSocial was friendly and supportive, but couldn't issue a credit or refund because the owner of Your Dog Smiles marked my deal as redeemed (although it wasn't). Highly disappointing (and expensive) experience. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I've used YDS since 2009 and have always been impressed with their level of service and dedication. The appointments are made easily online, but if you have any special requests or needs, Colleen responds right away to customize. The pet sitters are dedicated and it's really obvious that they take their job very seriously. I love reading the notes left, upon arriving home, of what Ally (my cat) and her sitter Julia, did while we were away on vacation. I will be using YDS for a very long time! read more

Wanted to share some positives on these guys. I'm not an every day customer, and have used Your Dog Smiles for years as my backup weekend / overnight care company. Always had positive service, never any mix-ups. Wanted to share two really positive experiences I've had with them, just to show how much they care for their clients. First experience was a few years ago, and they had a new sitter come out to see our dog (as I said, not a frequent customer, so any sitter would be new - but I believe this one was new to the company too). We got a call from the sitter saying our dog wouldn't go outside, but she would keep trying and let us know. 20 minutes later got a call from Colleen, who said she would send as many different sitters over to make sure our dog got the walk as was necessary until she found one she liked (only took one more). Being out of state, it was great to have that level of customer service. Then recently I'm travelling over the holidays, and it's been a while since I used the service, and wasn't able to remember / reset my password. Put out a help e-mail, and Colleen ended up replying to my email, confirming exactly when I needed the service (over Thanksgiving, with only a week notice) and then texted me the confirmation and calendar view so I had it for my records. While I'm sure they're just as excellent at the every day walking service as they are at the occasional, I can only speak to the back-up service. For years they have always been able to accommodate last minute service requests, provided excellent customer service, and really gone that extra mile. If you're looking for a reliable company to help out, I'd really recommend you give them a call. read more

Your Dog Smiles has been lovely to work with from the very start. The team helped me get set-up, promptly answered my questions, and made me feel very comfortable. Amanda, Indy's walker, leaves us great notes every day that always make me smile. She really cares about Indy and it shows in the sweet notes she leaves for us. Your Dog Smiles is wonderful. Everyone I have worked with has been very professional and you can tell they really care about the dogs. I just moved to the area a couple of months ago and travel a good amount for work so I was worried about how my older dog would handle everything. But the Pet Sitters/Walkers are great and he has adjusted wonderfully to his new home and schedule (which they are a large part of). I 100% recommend them! They have great dog walkers and always provide an all around great experience. We used to take our pups to PetSmart for overnight boarding (same price), but we LOVE that YDS will come 3 times per day for minimum 30mins each visit to walk and cuddle with our pups. Its so nice to be able to keep them at home where they feel safe and with a walker who loves them. They give you a journal and write down daily activities and updates, and they recently started emailing online journals to keep us updated while we're away. They give us peace of mind while traveling and allows us to not worry about them while away. I love being able to schedule our visits online and get confirmations via email. I called at the last minute begging for their help at the last minute - although they were unable to assist me (I live in Bethesda) they found the the best alternative in my area. Most business would just say sorry - can't help you. The woman I spoke to (Susan I think, my deepest apologies if I am wrong) went way above and beyond what I could have hoped for in a business. I am very thankful and appreciative. If there are this thoughtful with people I can only guess that the pets are in the best possible care. read more

I moved to the area two weeks ago, and had a weekend flight out of town this last weekend. I have a miniature australian sheppard who was born blind and takes a little more time to adjust to new surroundings. He was still not completely adjusted to our new apartment, but was getting more confident each day. Your Dog Smiles started doing his mid-day walks only three days before doing his weekend Pet Sit so I was a little nervous on how he would do. But I really didn't need to worry at all. They were able to arrange for his dog walker to stop by and do his weekend visits. She was great and he felt right at home! When I got home he was relaxed on his bed, and there were great notes about his progress and activities for each time she stopped by each day. We have used YDS three times and each time they have done a great job. They text us after each visit and have even sent pictures of the dogs. She texted me periodically to let me know the visits were going well (very reassuring so that I knew that my dog was actually being looked after and not accidentally forgotten), and she left detailed notes about the visits.
