My first phone call, I waited 8 to 15 minutes. During our visit she left the room for about 20 minutes knowing in advance, I had to get back to my practice none of which was an emergency in either situation.

Vincent was a 13-year-old pitbull mix with the kindest, most gentle soul. After he jumped out of the car one day, he began limping and crying when we touched his leg, so we brought him to this vet, hoping to help him feel better. During his exam and x-rays, he was in visible pain. They gave him a high dose of a morphine-related medication to keep him comfortable. When the nurse set him on the floor afterward, his body collapsed from the sedation and he fell back, hitting his tailbone hard on the tile floor. The vet was in the room -- we all heard the crack -- and no one said a word. That fall had nothing to do with his real injury, but it broke my heart to see. It showed such a lack of care and awareness. No one warned me that he might not be able to stand after the injection or that I should stay by his side to support him. I had been sitting with him before they took him away, and if I had known, I would've been right there to catch him and comfort him like I always did. Over the next few days, Vincent's leg swelled so badly that he could barely move. The vet told me the x-rays showed a ligament tear that would require surgery. I was told an orthopedic specialist would perform it, but no one ever examined Vincent or spoke to me about it. Instead, I got a text saying I could drop him off for surgery -- no consultation, no questions, no real explanation. It didn't feel right. I followed my gut and got a second opinion. The new vet immediately knew something was wrong. He took more x-rays and, within hours, gently told me that Vincent had a very aggressive bone tumor -- osteosarcoma -- that had already spread. He couldn't understand how the first clinic had missed it; the damage to the bone was unmistakable. That moment shattered me. I realized my boy had been suffering through unnecessary pain, medication, and procedures that could have been avoided if the first vet had taken more care. I don't know if the outcome would have been different, but at least I could have made his final weeks more comfortable, with less fear and confusion. I lost Vincent shortly after. I made sure his last day was filled with love -- his favorite meal, his blanket, and me by his side the entire time. I still can't believe he's gone, and I'll never forget the way this clinic's neglect made his final days harder than they needed to be. I did speak to the doctor afterward. He apologized, but there's no way to undo what happened. I've lost all faith in their practice. Please, if your pet ever seems worse than what they've been diagnosed with -- trust your instincts. Get a second opinion. I'm so thankful I did, even though it came too late to save my sweet Vincent.

I completely understand that emergency clinics can become overwhelmed and that critical cases may arrive unexpectedly. What was frustrating and heartbreaking was the lack of honesty and communication about the actual wait time. Had they been upfront and told my mom the doctor would likely be delayed for a significant amount of time, she could have immediately taken our dog elsewhere for treatment. What made the experience even more upsetting was that while my mom was still waiting -- without anyone having assessed or treated our dog yet -- the receptionist approached her to send someone to discuss payment options. It felt incredibly insensitive given the seriousness of the situation and the fact that our dog still had not been seen by a doctor. After waiting over an hour, our sweet girl Luna had declined even further and was no longer able to walk. My mom made the difficult decision to leave and drive 20 minutes to another emergency hospital. The moment she arrived there, multiple staff members rushed to help her and informed us that Luna was already in critical condition. She was diagnosed with sepsis and pancreatitis. Sadly, despite their efforts, she passed away later that night. I understand that veterinary staff work under immense pressure and that emergencies can happen at any time. But honest communication and urgency matter in life-or-death situations. I truly wish this clinic had been transparent about the wait so Luna could have received the care she needed sooner.

How do they know a tooth needs extraction before they've even examined it? And why prescribe pain medication for pain they haven't caused yet, for a problem that doesn't exist? When I began declining services and made clear I only needed a basic teeth cleaning, they insisted it was "office policy." I walked out and won't be back.
