The patties themselves were good -- flavorful, well-seasoned, and satisfying -- but the true standout of the visit was the cocoa bread. Easily the best cocoa bread I've had from any Caribbean spot. It was incredibly soft, buttery, and clearly fresh. Honestly, it's good enough that I'd return just for that alone. Pricing leaned a bit higher than I expected for patties, but the overall experience still felt worth it. The food hit the spot, and the cocoa bread alone makes this place memorable. If you regularly dine at Jamaican restaurants then you already know the customer interaction is very lackluster. So there are only a few patties on display and I ask what they were since they were not labeled and the man behind the counter was very short with me and said they had everything. Silly of me to assume everything was available if there were only 4 patties on display and nothing was labeled. I ended up getting the Jerk Chicken and Spicy Oxtail and it was underwhelming. The crusts were more dough-y than flakey, the texture of the filling was mushy, and the flavor was lacking. Maybe it was an off night but I don't care to give them another chance. Will not be returning on account of the worst customer service I have ever received. There was one man working when I arrived and ordered a few patties. He informed me that some that I wanted were not in stock but could be replaced with a similar type. He did not share that they were over double the price. When I realized the increase I changed my order, only to then be met with another final price that was 50% higher than expected. After asking about the price, he said that the prices on the menu prominently displayed next to the food were not the actual prices. I stated that it was unfair for him to have charged me a premium without first informing me that prices had changed. He pointed to a sign that says "Prices are subject to change." I said that I understood, but he still must inform customers that prices have actually changed and what they have changed to. He refused to honor his own prices that were posted on his own signs in his own store and told me that he didn't appreciate my aggression. After paying the unexpectedly high amount, he covered up one of his signs with the prices and rudely stated, "I'll cover this sign up and hopefully that will get you to calm down." I usually stop here for a quick bite and it's always been a good experience. Today I had an issue with a juice I bought from the store. I purchased a sorrel juice and 2 chicken patties. I left the store and literally went 5 mins to the hair salon up the street. As I sat having my hair blown out, I took the juice out and went to open it when I noticed it was already almost open. I set it aside because I don't feel comfortable ingesting something where the security seal has been broken. After having my hair blown out, I told the stylist to hold on I was going to return the juice. I went back to the store with the juice and asked if I could exchange it. The lady there said I could not because I left the store with it already. I also would not be able to get my money back because of the same store policy. I asked to see a manager and she stated "I am the manager." Needless to say I am very frustrated and disappointed with YUPP. As I told the cashier, I am not looking for my money back. I actually want the juice. I just wanted to exchange for a properly sealed one. Especially since I paid for the drink. She absolutely refused citing "company policy". I think this is wrong! I wasn't trying to return half eaten patties, just a product that was supposed to be sealed and wasn't. If I bought at WF or Trader Joe's they would take back no questions asked, even a day later, and give me my money back. At YUPP I usually have a pleasant enough experience but today I am highly annoyed. I really don't think exchanging the drink should have been an issue. That's my opinion. read more

So I've hesitated for weeks to write this review because I love supporting minority owned establishments. However, I want to share my experience in hopes this gets to the owner. I love the patties here, especially the YUPP original flavors. I love the oxtail and hearty beef but the curry chicken is amazing. With that being said, about 90% of the time that I stop here the curry chicken is not available. For a baseline, this place is less than 5 minutes from my house so I frequent every 1-2 weeks. I do not understand why supply does not meet demand so frequently. I can't imagine a business not making sure their best seller isn't available more often than not. I've never been to Wendy's and they didn't have nuggets, ugh! What makes it worse is that although Ms Lisa is super sweet, you can't call here to check if they have what you need in advance. The number goes to a Google number , and no one answers! So you will make the trip for your taste buds to be disappointed when you arrive and they're sold out. Wasting time and gas. The straw on the camel's back is that I am writing this review sitting outside in the middle of the day on a Wednesday. There is a sign on the door that says , be back in 5 minutes written on a patty paper. I've been here for 15 now writing this review. Seriously ? Don't plan for a quick lunch stop clearly. Stopped by the Bloomfield location at 5pm yesterday (Sunday) and they were closed despite Google saying they were open until 6pm. I called the South Orange location to find out if they were still open; I spoke with Dre and he assured me they were still open. I inquired as to which patties they had left and he informed me that he would whip up whichever patties I wanted if I could get there before 6pm. I assured him I would be there within 20mins and headed that way. I order 2 Oxtail, 2 Beef, 1 Jerk Shrimp, 1 Spinach and 1 Veggie Patty...my Wife, Daughter and I loved them; they were delicious! I was in the area and wanted to try this spot for lunch. I love patties and couldn't wait to try. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in to a cool decorated place. I seen all their patties were stamped with their logo and they even had minis. I decided to get the vegan curry patty and that consisted of curry mashed chickpea. I also got the coco bread. In total it came to a little over $6. I paid with my card and left. When I got to the car I dug and and it was tasty. I really liked the coco bread. Ehhh I wouldn't believe the hype about "ultimate patty", but- Nice atmosphere inside. Good music. Nice people. The Patties are certainly not worth $7. I ordered 3 (jerk curry and fish) of them to try it out. They are Very basic patties, not flakey or crispy and very mushy- so I was disappointed. The jerk patty is not spicy at all and they were sold out of oxtail which was unfortunate. I eventually ate my curry one. But the rest I had no problem throwing in the trash after one bite, yikes. I might return to try the oxtail but if I really want a patty I'll go get a perfect one from Top Taste on Chancellor or N Maple for $2 read more

Appears to be a unique space. But save your time and definitely your money. Oxtail Patty nearly $10 and the filling didn't even compare to flavored tuna packets you can get from the dollar store. My gf threw away the curry jackfruit patty before I could even get a photo, but one bite was enough for her to know that it was nasty. On top of that, the team was frustratingly difficult for what should have been a seamless experience. After all, the Patties were already done and just need to be put in a bag ... or at least, I thought. She refused to give me a bag for the two Patties bc she had already put them in sleeves. If you want a beef or chicken patty do not come here unless you want to pay double what you would normally pay. The curry chicken patties were dry, the actual crust itself wasn't very flaky, and J and js on valley street sells bigger and better curry chicken patties for less than half the price at yupp ($8). LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS business. They had me at the very first bite!!! I've had the oxtail, jerk chicken and the curry chicken patties. They are all amazing! Definitely made with love. The ambience at the establishment is great as well. Love the old school arcade games that are FREE to play while you wait. The customer service is excellent both in store and when they are vendors at events. I'm a forever customer and I'm telling everyone about it. It's really THAT GOOD. Best tasting patties outside of Jamaica. Though I'm not a vegetarian, I love their vegetarian options. My very favorites are the jerk jackfruit, and their vegetable patties. I had 4 patties...love the mild oxtail and curry chicken pattie. The vegan pattie I didn't like and I ordered the mild hearty beef but they didn't have so I was given the spicy and it was extremely too spicy I wish I was warned. I will definitely go back want to try other patties. read more

Looked clean and once i saw apple pay thru the window i knew i was in a modern place! So what is going on behind the black curtain??? Who knows. But i suspected things were being Microwaved. But something was off. why har it taken so long to just give me two beef patties and some cocoa bread? lol. when my order arrived, i paid IMMEDIATELY!!! i then said so respectfully and with a smile hey, just out of curiosity, did you put these patties in the microwave? The woman said quietly "No just the cocoa bread" after having just paid, I walked out feeling deflated. Everyone knows you don't put bread in a microwave. Microwaving turns bread into hockey pucks.
