Don't let the ambiance fool you. Macaroni Au Gratin is bland with consistency of imitation cheese whiz? I can't put my finger on it but it didn't have a flavor of ANY blend of natural cheeses. I'd know, I'm a cheese connoisseur! Perhaps they use imitation cheese. Simply put, their macaroni au gratin is inauthentic as in no veggies (onions, bell peppers) nor ham or ground beef used either. At least the Diri Djon Djon and Lalo was decent. I've had better Salad Russe. It was either missing onions or salt. The condiment cup of Pikliz is shorter and smaller than the usual 1.5 oz. Most restaurants provide sizes 2 oz and larger and that's how I was able to tell the difference. I never even knew those solo dipping cups came any smaller! Probably so you can ask for more so they can charge extra. Not only do they make sure to cut corners on the Pikliz. Which wasn't even enough to mask their thick, brown, over-fried, DRY and STALE bannann peze that has been sitting out. After they cut the plantains they don't soak in salted water. Bannann peze SHOULD NOT be so thick, should be made-to-order and served hot, fresh, golden and crispy. Just look at their photos and see for yourselves compared to other bannann peze / tostones you've eaten / seen. Then to ask if I need utensils for a to-go order? No ma'am, I'll be using my fingers and eating out of my hands today, thanks for asking. Don't ask, just automatically include utensils in the bag for the astronomic amount you charge for your food. Chain restaurants or even mom & pops all simply include utensils and napkins when preparing to-go orders. Only time to get away with that is when delivering. At which most times customer may decline since they're home / work and may already have those items. Price point - garbage for side of macaroni au gratin I'll let you all be surprised for yourselves on the rest on menu. * If anyone gave this restaurant 5 stars... they're obviously not Haitian and/or their tastebuds are shot. read more

The flavors were there, and some dishes were enjoyable, but others felt a bit underseasoned and not as fresh as expected. Portions were reasonable for the price! As soon as I entered the place, the smell of it was horrible, in such a weather (summer) there was no AC. The lady in the front had such an uninviting attitude that was hotter than the place itself. Quite frankly, it was my second time and last time going there. I decided to get takeout from neguess for the first time after watching their promotion videos on social media. I got the griot with black rice. The griot was cooked perfectly. I just wish there was more given for the price. My mother got the Lalo with rice and beans. The Lalo tasted good but i also felt the portion of it was small. The both rices were good. The sauce on the side to put on the rice could've used more flavor and the pikliz was not spicy in my opinion. I would preferred it to have more of a kick. But overall it was pretty good, I would get it again especially the griot but I would most likely do it during the lunch special. read more

It's always so nice to dine in here. Our favorite Haitian restaurant. When you first walk in you smell the aroma of spices and it feels homey. Lovely and accommodating owner and staff. My husband loves the pikliz that we always buy it from here to bring home. Recently we bought a jar of militon legume. Food and juice is always fresh. Trust me you won't ever be disappointed. The portions are ginormous and generous. So so so worth every dollar. You can truly sense the love and care when dining in and when they cook the food. The decor and dining area is very antiquated lol. It channels 1980s chanm salonn. I visited with my sister, my brother in law and niece and nephew. He is Jamaican, and his two children are more familiar with Jamaican fare. They were just complaining about how they barely like Haitian food but they CLEANED their plates! I must have passed this gem of a joint a million times to and from home in my neighborhood and have barely noticed it. The only thing I regret regarding my visit today was that I have not discovered it earlier. It is rather understated. The decor is a bit stark and an odd mixture of paintings of various themes and styles, and very few tables. A beverage fridge is in tge dining area for diners to retrieve their own drinks. The food is ordered through a tiny window to the kitchen with no table service. Let all of these not fool you. This place is the real thing! It's superb food is amazing! I love Haitian food and couldn't wait to try this spot. I ordered over the phone, the small chicken and gravy with white rice and the brown sauce and fried plantain. I really wanted black rice but they had no more. When I arrived I parked in front of the restaurant. I walked in and the nice young lady took my payment and it was $10.66. She handed me my food and I left. When I got to the car I dug in. The chicken was decent, the rice was nice and buttery, the black sauce was bland and the plaintain needed salt. I have been searching for a place with authentic tasting Haitian cuisine to feed my family. I am happy to say that I finally found it. The first time I tried their food I was blown away by how delicious everything tasted and the generous portions . I ordered the griot, turkey,and chicken. They all were seasoned well and delicious. My husband is haitian and said that everything he tasted, including the white bean sauce remInded him of being back home. The different rices we ordered were very good also. I found this place from Instagram and knew I had to try right away. I ordered using Uber eats to my job and made my staff order with me since many of them have never tried Haitian food. Now when I say they all loved it!!! I stuck to chicken but they got griot (fried pork) and they said it was delicious. The rice was good, the portions were huge, and the prices are reasonable. I legit only order from minority owned restaurants especially Haitian and Jamaican restaurants in NJ and NY and being of Haitian descent myself I love and salivate for Haitian food. Unfortunately this is my first FAIL at a Haitian spot. This time I ordered via Uber Eats and was sadly disappointed and only ended up eating the fried plantains with pikliz and the kola lakay...the Tassot Turkey dry and not seasoned, rice was just the same lackluster and the sauce was basically the juice of the boiled meats not actual sauce. My New Favorite Restaurant My husband birthday is on January 3 and after a very exhausting Christmas and New Year season I was too tired to cook a birthday dinner for him and our family of 10. I called a few restaurants to see if they can prepare a few platters of food. Everyone said no bring it was so last minute on a Saturday. I found Neguess restaurant on Yelp and decided to take a chance based on the reviews and am so glad I did. I called at 2pm and spoke to Jessica and she worked it out for us to get 4 platters - Griot, Chicken (see photo) Macaroni and Rice and Beans - and told me it would be ready by 4pm. When I got there I told her that I forgot to put in an order of fried plantain and she said no problem and was able to make a platter on the spot. The food was amazing. We are Haitian and like every culture we are very critical of our own food and this was legit. The griot was cooked to perfection. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the chicken was seasoned just right and was falling off the bone and the rice was almost as good as my tatie Mayotte - who is the most amazing cook.
