This facility is perfectly located in the quiet quaint town of Hoodsport, WA. The house sleeps up to 21 guests with a garage for staging scuba gear & a rinse & drying room. There is ample parking. If you need groceries or scuba supplies, it's an easy 5 minute walk, or a 60 second drive. Beach access is simple and just across the street, but you need to be aware of cross-traffic, since it is on Highway 101. The diving is superb here & is maintained so that people cannot harvest sea life, so you're able to see all sorts of crab & fish. There are guide ropes out in the water to follow & checkpoints where you can see wrecked boats underwater. I highly recommend doing a night dive as you're able to witness the bio-luminescence when you agitate the water & it lights up like fire flies underwater. The only negative is that the wi-fi @ the Yellow House is spotty & you need to either be upstairs or on the main floor, or right next to the inside stairwell to get good reception. The actual beach is just across the street (Highway 101), literally a stones throw away. The downstairs portion of the house is almost barracks-type, a lot of beds for a lot of people. There is a grocery store ~2 minutes away. We had some issues with the Wi-Fi while trying to listen to music throughout the weekend. We did get to enjoy the hot tub, which was fantastic in the cold weather and the place was pet-friendly.

This town has needed a real grocery store for ever! I remember the days of having to go all the way to Shelton if you needed anything more than the basics available at the minimart. So of course I had to check it out, even if I didn't need anything at the moment. The store is nicely laid out, and has all the services/departments of larger grocery stores: produce, bakery, deli. The staff are very friendly - great service. On my second visit I did do a bit of shopping and easily found everything I needed. I will definitely be going back next time I am in town, which will be in about a week.

It was a bit of a last minute trip, and the shop was really really good about working with me to match me with a buddy, and had cheaper rental prices than all the other places I checked. Professional and easy to work with. I dove with Allen Raphael, and he was wonderful! Incredibly helpful, attentive to any questions I had, and was incredibly fun and knowledgeable about what we were seeing. I was also a little nervous, and he had a very easygoing calm personality while managing to get all the little details just right. I felt super safe and free to enjoy the dive, and he went the extra mile to work with me and my limitations, (no car, no place to dry gear overnight etc.) Lots of amazing sea critters too, lungfish, rockfish, nudibranchs, flounder, crabs and starfish of all sizes, sea cucumbers, anemone's...you'd never guess it's all down there by looking at the coast, and it's mostly all okay to touch! He is quite knowledgeable about Mares products and helps give information to people who want to cut it as a working diver. That aside, I love this place. It is fun to just hang out. You may have to work at a conversation but once you get the staff talking they are a lot of fun. Chris, the manager, does everything he can to get you the products you want. I mean he instantly calls other shops and it's hard to have everything you would want on hand, so Chris helps with the anguish of waiting with reasonable deals and consistent updates. The staff are top knotch! Mr. Holland taught me from Advanced up to Dive Master and I had so much fun the entire time. The shop does also offer lots of FREE dives to certified divers. They also offer regulator service, but it goes up to Seattle which is not a problem at all. This place is a second home.

I've spent some time as a hiking guide up in Denali Alaska, so I suppose I may be a bit biased, but when I choose to go out on a trip with a guide, it's because I would like for them to share expertise and keep me safe; both of which fell a bit short for me on this particular trip. I also recognize it was very early in the season, so some of the staff were training and brand new. However, the whole experience felt a bit unorganized, honestly, and like we were just being rushed in and out. Luckily I am a decently experienced kayaker and it's so hard to have a horrible time out on the water with gorgeous weather and good company!
