Our instructor, Emmy, was great. She started by giving us guidance on colors and what is possible. We went over safety and the process of working the glass. (pro tip you can't take your piece home the day you make it, they need to put it in an oven first). I also loved that they allowed my 10 year old son to do it too otherwise we probably wouldn't have signed up. Definitely worth a try if you've never done it before.

Kalia is such a lovely gal, full of fun, happy to help out at any point, full of interesting info about Hawaiian culture and enthusiastic about sharing her skills with others. She is an excellent teacher and so friendly. Everyone enjoyed talking to one another, sharing ideas, and advice about other classes we had taken an Hui No'eau previously. The gardens, gallery and gift store are all lovely to walk though so make sure you don't miss out. Plus it is the perfect place to take a post class picnic in the shade and relax.

RUDE OWNER. DO NOT COME HERE. I had a bizarre and hostile encounter here today. I am a local who…read morepasses this shop daily, and I was sitting on the bench out front with my service dog for less than 20 minutes to get out of the sun. I was having a normal, room-volume conversation with an elderly veteran when the owner came out and targeted me with a completely fabricated story. She claimed I sit there for "hours," when in reality, I've only used that bench three times ever. She then attempted to gaslight me, claiming my voice was "piercing her ears" and triggering her tinnitus--completely ignoring the loud, laughing family sitting right next to me. To top it off, she told me to "leave her property," despite these being benches on a public-facing tourist street where hundreds of people sit every single day without issue. I spoke with several other shopkeepers in the immediate area afterward, and they were all shocked to hear about her behavior. The shop looks inviting, but it is run by someone who is dishonest, exclusionary, and seemingly looking for reasons to harass people. If you have a service animal or just want to sit for ten minutes without being harassed with made-up stories, go somewhere else. The workers down the road have said she's done this numerous times to families and folks like myself. Complaining that the public irritate her tinnitus. Completely rude woman.

I upgraded my item to a Tray, my daughter had the standard board, hubby and son upgraded to the Turtle and surfboard boards. We started with homemade choc chip cookies and non carbonated Hawaiian drinks. Then we got to choose from 3 main color combinations and mix with resin. We got to choose some of our loose items like small shell pieces or a little turtle or extremely min starfish or pebbles to add. The instructor explained and gave step by step instructions and then each steps we started our own boards while she went around and supervised or helped as needed. These items once finished stay 24 hours for curing and touch up or sanding and then we can pick it up. In our case since dropping off at the airport was no possible, we have it to be shipped. Should arrive in a few weeks. Lots of fun for the whole family and a special gift for each person as a keepsake and memory in Maui!
