I can't understand why this place gets so many good reviews online (not just here on Yelp). I booked through Hotels.com because it got a Very Good" rating there and because I wanted to switch from HoJo to save some money. I trusted the Econo Lodge brand and was lured by the mid-century feel of the place and the incredible atomic era sign. This turned out to be a mistake. When I stay somewhere on a road trip, I don't need anything fancy. I'm really just sleeping there -- so all I look for is someplace quiet, clean, and safe. The Yuma Cabana was none of those things. The check-in process was fine -- I arrived late but there was still someone at the front desk who found my reservation quickly and gave me my key (though I had to ask how to get to my room, as with motels you never really know which way to go or where to park). The room was underwhelming at first, and it only got worse from there. The sign outside advertises that every room has a LaZBoy -- cool! -- except mine was pretty old and dusty and I was afraid to sit in it. When I tried to take a photo of it with my phone, the flash illuminated a while lot of dust (God I hope it was only dust) in the air. The white sheets were stained with something light green, kind of the color of mouthwash. And the sheets were stiff in those spots. Wax? Don't know, don't want to know. Some of the bathroom towels were bright white. Others were kind of... yellowy. Half of the sliding shower door was off its track and wouldn't open. The other half wouldn't close. A soap dispenser used to be on the tile wall but hadn't been replaced, leaving old adhesive behind. The built-in soap dish and shower head had a light green patina (which would be OK on its own) and the whole thing had a film of soap scum. There was only one channel on the TV that came in clearly. The rest were hopelessly snowy and unwatchable. The alarm clock radio could barely bring in a signal from any radio station. Normally this wouldn't be a problem for me -- as I mentioned, I like it quiet -- but the motel was SO LOUD that I was hoping to drown out all the noise just to fall asleep (and maybe to stay asleep). On a Sunday and Monday night, people were partying till all hours of the night, drinking on their patios, smoking various things, really whooping it up. One guy upstairs from me had a big dog with him and it was noisy every time he took him out. It sounded like someone banged on my 1st floor window last night. And I was awakened this morning at 4:30 a.m. by either my neighbor commanding his dog or barking sex orders to a partner. Lots of stomping around. It sounded violent. I tried to fall back to sleep but was hopelessly disturbed so I got out of there at 5:45a and went across the street to Coco's Bakery for breakfast (which opens at 6 a.m.). I was kind of afraid to go back. I will never stay here again and will never recommend anyone else stay there. It's just not worth even the low price I paid. read more

Ac was not strong at all. Room looked like it was not cleaned in a while. Dead bugs all over the floor. Many dead roaches, even one in the bathroom light. Frig was not plugged in. Single pained window. Bed was on it last leg, it might not had any legs at all!!! Bad bed read more

This is my worst experience in hotel history. There are roaches, no hot water showers, and they randomly choose when they're going to turn the water off for maintenance. The tv had problems through the entirety of my visit and the room was overall just disgusting. I was pretty upset at my company for booking me in this trash heap. Sure enough, this very morning, a giant roach was there to greet me in the shower. It was so big that my gut instinct was to shoot it, but thankfully, I withheld. read more

Here's what I notice about Yuma upon my one-night stay in the town: Fourth Avenue in Yuma is like the Vegas drag, but instead of casinos, there's dozens of seedy motel/hotels with funny names and cool signs. I don't understand why there are so many, but of the lot, the Cabana is bound to be the best. Our room was very clean. Though the bed wasn't the most comfortable, I still got a good night's sleep knowing I wasn't spending much money. Best part is they have free postcards of the motel sign so that you can send some to your friends and family to make them wonder why you ever stopped and stayed in Yuma, Arizona. read more

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago and just had kidney surgery robin was very hospitable in understanding my needs. Came back yesterday and had some issues with the room but the manager/owner made good by his word and i appreciated and recommend this place for sure. read more

We love this funky, classic motel. We stay there whenever we're in Yuma, which is just once every few years. It's now part of a chain - Econolodge - but except for an ugly Econolodge sign in the middle of their classic mid-century neon street sign, it's the same old YCM to us. Clean if antiquated room, cheap price, good bed, free early half-decent breakfast, pool. The credit card charges even show up as Yuma Cabana. Another visit and we discovered that the pool is saline, not chlorine -- we enjoyed a dip after dinner, under the stars... Did I mention it was 110 degrees when we arrived at 7pm!? So, we unpacked, cranked up the a/c, placed the in-room box fan for max circulation and went out to dinner. Room was quite cool by bedtime and I pulled on the light blanket in early morning hours. We'll return on our next visit to our daughter in LA. read more

A group of us have been staying here once a year for about 6 years. We've felt safe, welcome and had a good time in the past. Our visit the first weekend of Nov, 2014 will be the last. All the security locks from the outside of the motel to the interior lobbies were disarmed. According to the clerk at the desk it had been this way for several months. The Yuma sheriff was picking up a young man who had run from the Yuma city police. When discussing this with the man who ID'd himself as the owner, he acknowledged he 'knew the kids were up to no good' but considered it 'none of his business'. Yet, according to him this was his business. Then, once the young man was taken away, the rest of the young group were allowed to stay the rest of the night. So... the owner knew something was going on, thought it wasn't his business, allowed others involved to stay and the security was disabled. Since most of our group are single women this combination was not appreciated. In my room, there was an odor but I went about our group activity. Later that night I found the offending item - dog poop in the corner of the room. Now I understand the room's odor, on top of the chlorine smell from the cleaning. The TV showed only black/white, even though it was a color TV. I was given another room. The non-reaction from the desk clerk when I informed her of the dog droppings makes me wonder what else is discovered at this motel. The second room had a better TV, no odor but this didn't change the security situation. The breakfast was awful the first day and went downhill from there. Cold cereal, milk, the awful oatmeal packs to mix with hot water, the sweet rolls were all cellophane packaged items, the muffins were tasteless and the coffee was atrocious. I have never had coffee this bad. read more

This is my favorite motel not only because its cheep but they make the rooms pleasant clean and your right at home lazy boy recliners in every room t.v. comfortable beds. They have a great continental breakfast.starts at 6 a.m to 10 a.m there even pet friendly too. We've stayed here several times over the years on our annual visit with my uncle. It's always been and still is a nice clean basic motel equipped with microwave and a small fridge (both a big plus if you're staying more than one night). Nice pool area, but this time all the chairs had a layer of sooty dust on them. We ended up in the same room as last year, the sink was slow to drain THEN, this year it was worse. The maintenance guy was off on Sunday but the lady at the front desk was wonderful and did everything she could to fix it. They used to have a nice covered smokers area with couches and tables where my cousin and I could smoke a cigar at the end of the day but they did away with that, too. I think we'll be looking for something else next year...Still a decent place to stay for one night, all of the staff is awesome, but the motel is not like it used to be. read more

Our first visit in Yuma was a year ago, at a new Radisson for about $100. Just fine, but boring, too much like my old corporate life. While driving through downtown we noticed all the funky old motels along 4th Ave and vowed to try one. We picked the Yuma Cabana because of the cool sign, and now we've just finished our fourth stay there. Our first visit was in the torrid Yuma summertime, only about 5 cars in the parking lot, and the room was only $38, including free breakfast for the two of us. We expected the worst but it was just fine - clean, comfortable, quiet, with good sleeping. Nice fifties-looking pool with perfect water temp and pleasant surroundings, and exceptionally humane, friendly staff. We had a patio door with good seating right outside, and a microwave and larger-than-usual frig. Last night, a Friday, was in the middle of high season, the No Vacancy sign was lit, but they had held our room for us as promised (even though we hadn't paid ahead of time) and the rate with any kind of discount (AAA, AARP, ...) was only $55 I believe. (Side note: we'd stayed in a comparable place in Desert Hot Springs the night before and their Fri night high-season rate was $175.) Yuma Cabana had added a second friendly couple behind the desk to help handle the crowd, but nothing else had changed. I don't know when we'll next be back to Yuma, but whenever it is, we'll stay at the Yuma Cabana. I don't think one can legitimately award 5 stars to an old place like the YC, but it certainly deserves a solid 4. PS High season rates don't start until January - another plus. read more

Here is my review. Pros: Very comfortable bed, clean, friendly staff, decent size fridge and microwave, good size shower stall, almost instant hot water. Love the Lazy-boy. Great prices. Cons: Cheap towels, small TV. Come on, install 32-40 inch LCD's. AC remained on low even with control knob set to off! Arrrrgh. Maintenance didn't fix the problem but left a small heater that barely defeated the AC cold air, then it would shut off. In the summer months when temps soar into 100-110 degrees the AC on at nite would be golden but not when nite temps drop below 50 because the room turns into a mini-fridge. I had to double-double blankets folded over each other to stay warm. I talked with 2 other customers and they too said the same thing about the AC. This is why I cannot rate Yuma Cabana higher than 3 stars. read more

Giving this a 5 star review even thought it is, obviously, not a 5 star hotel. I have stayed there several times over the years when I come to the area for dental work in nearby Algodones, and it has always felt like a great value (I always come during the off-season). Last trip I stayed with an Airbnb host for about $5 less for the first night and regretted it because the savings weren't worth the loss of privacy. Right back to Yuma Cabana the next night! Cabana has always had a clean room and a decent bed for me, and I will continue to give them my business on the way through. read more

CLEAN, CLEAN , CLEAN! It's an older motel, independently owned and the owners have done a great job in offering an inexpensive, comfortable place to stay. The shower has a soap and shampoo dispenser which is way cool and then bar soap and a small lotion by the bathroom sink. The pool is crystal clear and it's a salt water pool (think water softener) my skin felt great after my swim and it's environmentally safe, makes it's own natural chlorine. They have coffee 24/7 along with a tea selection (nice touch). The room had a coffee maker, small fridge and TV with great reception and several movie channels. The mattresses were zipped in hypo allergenic, bug resistant cases and they were spotless. The bed linen was soft and the pillows were perfect for a good night's sleep. The customer service was great. My friend came down with the flu and was moving very slowly in the morning, they generously and kindly gave us about 30 extra minutes at check out. The only thing I would change is the towels. I know that towels can be a major expense, but these are small and rather thin. However, you can get extra towels at the desk for the pool and that helps. This motel is almost like coming home, with friendly, warm energy and environmentally aware procedures. They truly went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. This is our new place to stay when we are in Yuma. read more

the price is reasonable, however the room is definitely in need of repairs. the shower door is off its rails. I can live with a little run down, but it is also dirty. There are unknown splatter marks on the walls, and something nasty on the TV listing. A bit scared to touch the TV remote. single male in town for dental work in Mexico; room was clean; was quiet except for normal doors closing, no road noise, had frig, microwave; tv most channels were clear; bed slept good. plenty of places to eat in the area. fry's grocery just down the street; then a Mexican grocery with kitchen going the other direction. Having stayed at the Yuma Cabana several times in the past we booked for this trip. We did not expect the changes that we found. Upon Inquiring we found that the property is under new management since our last stay. To say we were disappointed would not aptly cover it. Not wanting to lose any money we did not check out right then and there. Lamps were not near .to outlets, Microwave was not near any outlet, AC did not work, AC remote had no batteries and checking every remote in the office did not produce a single one with a battery. The live on site manager had 3-4 large dogs in a small fenced area near to the pool. Much barking at pool users and any one walking by. The cleanliness was sadly lacking. I took a wash cloth and removed the growth of mold on the soap dish in the shower that was caked with soap residue. There was mold all along where the shower pan met the wall. Water pressure was non-existent. The toilet took 2-3 operations of the handle to completely flush all the contents of the toilet bowl. We had to opt for a suite as our request for a King bed could not be honored as the only King in a regular room was right next to the stairs up to the second level. This will be our last Cabana stay. read more
