Yuma is a desert for quality health care. There's a shortage of doctors and getting in to see one is almost impossible unless you are critically ill. So you are left with nurse practitioners. My first impression here with Lupe a year ago was good. But this last week, I felt like she was throwing every test at the wall to see if something stuck. She gave me an order for 8 blood and stool tests, an ultrasound and them asked ME if I wanted another endoscopy (just had one last year). Wait, isn't she supposed to be the expert here? When I expressed my concern due to extremely high health insurance costs this year and a high deductible, and that I wanted to go to my preferred lab (vs. the higher hospital lab), she got very aggressive and obstinate, and insisted that she wouldn't be able to see the results, which is just not true as the lab sends them over. From start to finish there was a lack of patient care, listening and I felt like it was all about how many things could be ordered to wrack up the cost. The only good thing is that they got me in within a week of calling and the front and back office staff are very helpful, but that's it. read more

Canceled my appointments 2 times now all over insurance knowing I have a colostomy site and a paristomal hernia i need emergency surgery . I feel my life has no value according to there standards and they can admit me for these tests and it would be covered but refuse to help me in any situation . I received a call from a NP 2 hours before my appointment (that I had been waiting about a month for) to inform me they could not see me because I was too young for their guidelines. I had to arraigned for child care and pay them despite the fact that they cancelled on me last minute. The nurse who called me was extremely rude, unsympathetic and unprofessional. No apology or accountably was offered. They refused to even consider or discuss the options of being able to see me; other patients I know were able to be seen despite being "underage" for the guidelines. When I moved here, other people told me the staff was rude, but I had to try given they're the only ones in the area. They were right. AVOID this place if possible. It's not worth the stress of dealing with their uncaring and unprofessional staff. Extremely disappointed that a NP would act this way. read more

I'm not sure how many medical facilities like this are here in Yuma but I've never had a bad experience here. Here's a tip; if possible plan your appointments early as it gets busy pretty quickly. I had an early appointment and the wait was less than 20 minutes. The staff fielded my medical questions and made sure I knew what was going on and/or what was required. I am a nurse practitioner who recently interviewed with multiple staff for a position at Yuma Gastroenterology. I can tell you that this is a top-tier practice and Yuma is very lucky to have the doctors, NPs/PAs and staff! GI issues are not as easy as they sound, but everyone is very good and capable. The staff are constantly working hard to help all their patients! If American medicine had their caring and ability, it would solve a lot of our problems. read more

They seem to only care about money. I went there and only could see nurse practitioners. They wouldn't even really examine me or take time to listen to me. They just want to send you to do unnecessary expensive tests. After much time, lots of money, and absolutely no help, I went to another doctor (out of town), got diagnosed that same day with a simple test, and am now completely better. read more

I set up an appointment at Yuma Gastroenterology. I am new in Yuma AZ and was pleasantly surprised that I could get into see a physician very quickly due to a cancellation. Once I got there 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment, which was at 7:40 in the AM and then taken into the examining room a few minutes before the appointment I was told I was seeing a physician assistant and that she was not there yet. 45 minutes later I am still waiting so checked with receptionist and she very curtly said well she has other patients. I was the first appointment that day so was very surprised. When she arrived she did not even say sorry I am late and also was very uninterested, not much eye contact and appeared she was not even interested in hearing me also hard to understand. I still scheduled an appointment for a upper endoscopy as I was feeling rather urgent about my situation. Then checking out I was told, again by a very unfriendly receptionist that after my appointment I would not get results until I saw a physician (hopefully a real physician) and it would take 3 months to be able to get an appointment for this!!!! Unheard of. What is this about. I worked in healthcare all my life and have never experienced this kind of rudeness ever from a physician or physician assistant. I moved here years ago and was first seen by Dr. Esker. I soon changed because honestly I thought the guy was a nurse. I remember talking to him about my Crohns' Disease and I had the feeling he wasn't fully aware so I was changed to a Dr. Anniready. Sadly, I thought he was a decent doctor for awhile until one day I asked him about Irrigation (I have an ileostomy) and he said "you don't need any more surgeries" WHAT. ha it's not a surgery, so I called him on that and he basically just ignored it in a way that showed he wasn't aware of what it was. All hope is lost at that point. If you're a snowbird and you already have your medical prognosis then perhaps follow-ups, prescriptions or remicade here would be OK. If you're diagnosed here? START PRAYING. or travel to Phoenix, which by the way, I wanted to see a doctor in Phoenix and was told by YRMC I wouldn't be able to receive remicade at YRMC. (I take remicade every 6 weeks). I'm not from Arizona and I'm sorry if you are, but the U.S. is much better than this place, do yourself a favor and move away because this town is really third world.
