The folks there were super nice but I believe either Turkish or something else Middle Eastern. You could tell from the sushi pieces that this place was made for German palates where it's more about filling you up than delivering high end fish. Sure there is a crowd for this and they obviously like this place. If that's your thing, you'll be happy here. I believe the quality is OK and you could do worse. If you are into good sushi though, you may want to go up a class or two in sushi joint. It really is a totally different eating experience getting higher quality stuff. I don't eat sushi to get stuffed. I eat it for the quality and taste and you're just not going to get that at this place. Again super nice people and they do fulfill a very specific niche but this is not truly Japanese grade sushi.

Sushi Yama is primarily a delivery service for the areas of Fuhlsbüttel to Sasel. But the Sushi Yama is represented also with a little uncomfortable corner in the eating lane of the AEZ. The Sushi is prepared freshly in the visibility range. This pleases! Admitted I cannot distinguish a Japanese of a Korean or Chinese, either I can not separate a Frenchmen of Germans or Swiss. But the Sushi was not at least prepared by Asians. I could say this certainly. But this does not matter. I know for certain everyone can learn the art of sushi making. However, the Sushi was not particularly slap-up. The rice was not sour enough, the Wasabi was missing and the relations Fish to rice were not well. Too little fish. I have let nothing on the plate. The waitress asked me whether it has tasted nice. I formulated my criticism friendly and found it very nicely that she immediately discussed this with the Sushi-Cook. As a compensation she offered me a salmon Nigiri. Unfortunately, I was already replete, however, found this really pleasant.

The waitress suddenly turned up, presented the menu. Asked If we are in first time. Explained all options of the menu (in really perfect German). Some of the food is vegetarian, but can be ordered with broth. In this case, broth is made of bones - no longer vegetarian at all. Good to now but anyway - bone broth, sounds really good! But don't let that stop you from treating yourself to the most authentic and delicious vietnamese food you'll ever get this far away from Hanoi. And boy are you in for a treat. The food is amazing! Flavourful with a home cooked vibe to the dishes, served with fresh and fragrant herbs, spicy chilies and refreshing drinks. Satisfaction guaranteed! The service is efficient, friendly and accommodating. I once turned up with a friend of mine minutes after closing and they still served us and where so nice to us, even though we stalled their much deserved closing time. Thank you once again! The decor used to be typical to Asian Street Food restaurants (very basic) but they changed all that and redid the restaurant. Purists, regulars and people in the know may shrug off the redesign but I think its great. Hopefully people whom are not accustomed to asian Street Food won't be dissuaded by the backroom flair any longer. The little trip to Jenfeld is time well spent. As a tip, get there on a saturday or sunday morning. The place is bursting with people from all walks of life. Asian families dressed to the nines, groups of young people looking a little hung over from last night, old wrinkly asians all busy chatting away and most likely me, taking the whole scenery in, slurping my jumbo Pho and just being content.
