Yupo health came recommended from a friend who tried cupping here. It's a one stop shop for massages,cupping,acupuncture and physical therapy. It was my first time receiving a massage along with cupping therapy so I knew little of what to expect. Prior to my treatment, I was instructed to complete a health questionnaire specifying areas that I needed more work on( it was neck and lower back for me). I was then led into a room where I spent the next 75min in a peaceful bliss. The room was small cozy and clean. The massage was Tui na style where there was a lot of pressure point kneading. Wendy the masseuse seemed to have very good knowledge of all pressure points. Then came the cupping. It was a little uncomfortable for the first few minutes but before you know it, it was over. Not bad for a first-timer! I walked out of Yupo feeling lighter and more relaxed. In summary I found the place to be clean and cozy, the staff were friendly and It was a bonus that they accepted major insurances. I look forward to coming back for more cupping sessions. Such a great find! I am so thankful to have stumbled upon this Groupon. I purchased a 75 min massage and cupping session at Yupo Health. I had never heard of them but quickly looked them up on Yelp and with multiple 5 star reviews I decided to give them a shot. I made an appointment via email with the owner Eva. She was quick to respond to my message explaining that they are open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Originally, they were not able to take me for 2 weeks out, however last minute, Eva texted me saying they had a cancelation! I arrived at 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon. Yupo Health is located on the 3rd floor of the address listed here on Yelp; 2 flights up and no elevator access. A young girl at the front desk welcomed me as I was ushered to fill out their intake form. The waiting area is small with a water cooler, bathroom and two benches to wait. I waited about 5 minutes while they cleaned/sanitized the room and then was brought back. The room was super clean and the bed was nice and warm. I quickly met Joanne who was incredible and we spoke briefly about what areas I wanted her to focus on. I usually have to ask my masseuse to apply more firm pressure, but not with Joanne. She is insanely strong and found all of my "problem areas" with ease. She paid special attention to my shoulders and neck which I had requested at the beginning. I would say she spent about 80% of her time on my shoulders, neck and back and the other 20% on my legs. I had never had cupping done before, but it was a fun experience. Joanne was patient with me and explained the benefits! At checkout, I learned that they also take several insurances (BCBS, Aetna etc) which may allow for discounted massages based on your plan. Highly disappointed with my 75 min massage in which I was too afraid to agree to cupping bc of the lack of a proper deep tissue massage. I came here for a 60-minute massage + cupping. It is in a building with a nail bar, Pilates studio, etc. so a one stop shop for self care! The massage studio is cozy with clean and comfortable massage beds. The woman that provided my treatment was very attentive and thorough. She started by rubbing my back and legs over the sheet, then proceeded to massaging me with oil. To finish, she did a few moments of a hot towel massage and then wiped off the oil residue. Once the massage was finished, I received the cupping treatment (my first time)! It was a little uncomfortable at first- sort of a pinching feeling, or like something heavy is being placed on your back. The cups on my upper back sort of made it hard to breathe. But after a couple of minutes, you relax into the sensation. The cups stayed suctioned on for about 5-7 minutes. It felt really nice when they were taken off. I wouldn't say I'm miraculously healed after one treatment, but my back does feel much better than it had been feeling previously. I came here for the first time last month. I had requested a deep tissue massage and that's exactly what I got. Joanne was my masseuse. I often have a hard time getting a masseuse to give me firm enough pressure when I request them. Not Joanne though. My first impression is that it looks new and clean. The room looked and smelled clean. The part where you put your face smelled like alcohol which I liked because I like it sanitized. The room has a sliding door. You had an option to pick from a few different scented oils or you can select unscented. The bathroom was nice and clean as well. They use hand towels instead of paper towels. I recently moved from Chicago to NYC which was extremely stressful. Back pain followed by back surgeries, then muscle tightness and muscle spasms is a summary of the pain I deal with on a daily basis. I find acupuncture with electricity helps the best. A practicing massage therapist for 25 years, i scheduled a session here, requesting that the therapist wear a mask. Covid is spiking again in the city, people all around me are sick again, and as an lmt myself who works closely with vulnerable clients and have an autoimmune disorder myself, I could not imagine this would be a problem. Why anyone in client services would refuse this request- especially when the client relaxing is a central element to the business- baffles me personally and professionally. It is NEGLIGENT client care and customer service of "zero stars". Very disappointing to see this happening in NYC and makes me very much question what kinds of cleaning protocols are in place and what other client requests would be rejected. I didn't ask that everyone in the office put on a mask. I asked that the therapist who would be close to my body and face wear one. I received a call back that the business was unable to mandate that request. Eva is really personable and knowledgeable when it comes to relieving the tightness of joints and musculature aches thru acupuncture - being a dancer I constantly put my legs and feet thru much strain and "abuse" / so having these acupuncture treatments really help alleviate them from the constant barrage of strenuous and physical activities I put them thru.
