I just want to say after reading these reviews that No, Janet isn't a puppy mill. Also she never had 60 dogs at once. How would I know you ask? I worked for Janet for 9 years, and while we didnt get along all the time, I respect her as a breeder. She genuinely cares about her dogs and their health, her house has never been filthy nor have the dogs lived in filth. People come here mad that they didnt get the puppy of their choosing for whatever reason and spread lies about her. She has her issues yes, but when someone says they dont want a white dog, but wants the Sable puppy that both Janet and I know would likely turn white(Yes i was there for Donnas interaction) she has a valid reason to say no to that person wanting that puppy. I can also state that her dogs get tons of human interaction as part of my job working for Janet was to socialize the Puppies. Both she and I would play with the puppies multiple times a day. If she didnt socialize the puppies, her dogs wouldnt make as wonderful pets as they do. This dog sitter review was obviously left when they were mad, as like I stated i worked for her for 9 years and never had an issue with her paying me. She even allowed me to keep my Bully mutt as my position had been live-in. I worked for her from 2012-2021. Trust me if she did anything unethical or abused these dogs or mistreated them in any way, shape or form. I'd know better than anyone. She may have her flaws, but for people to come smear or point blankly lie(looking at you 60 dog dude), is disgusting. I will be the first person to tell you that yes, she has an anger issue. Yes she expects things done her way. But neither of those things, affects how she treats these dogs. If she mistreated these dogs, i'd report her to the proper authorities myself and she knows it. Janet is amazing. I'm so glad we found her all those years ago when we were first looking for Havanese. The first Havanese we got from Janet was Shimmer. Shimmer had an amazing career in the show ring. She won her championship from the puppy classes and finished with a win at the biggest show in the state. Once she was finished with her championship, she switched careers and became my son's dog in Junior Showmanship. With Shimmer's help he qualified and won a spot at the Westminster KC show at Madison Square Garden. Not only did Janet breed such an amazing dog for us, she continued to support us. When Shimmer was ready for puppies, Janet flew across the country and stayed with us for over a week to help out. Years later, now an extremely elderly dog, Shimmer likes to nap and cuddle. Our second Havanese from Janet was Dazzle. Dazzle was even more amazing in the show ring. Dazzle won her championship in four straight shows and was done. Once Dazzle was done showing, she became my soul dog. She is and was my forever favorite dog. Our third Havanese from Janet was Crystal. She is also amazing. I've had many dogs during my life but Crystal is the first and only one that has never had a potty accident. She is now almost 4 years old. She claimed me as her person and loves to sit in my lap. She also does her assigned job of playing with Shimmer and making sure Shimmer gets up and is active at least 3 times a day. (Otherwise the elderly Shimmer would sleep all of the time). Janet is an amazing breeder who uses her background in genetics and her years of experience to breed healthy dogs. When you get a puppy from her it will be healthy. She also works to match the personality of dogs and new owners. If you get a Havanese from Janet, it will be well socialized and ready to be a member of your family. She also has kept in touch with us and provided support for almost two decades since we got our first Havanese. I would like to take issue with some of the negative reviews. Janet loves her dogs and will refuse to sell a dog if she doesn't think the perspective buyer is a good match for that puppy's personality. She will even refuse to sell to some buyers if she doesn't think they will be appropriate for any of her dogs. Two of the reviews sound like disgruntled people who were not matched with a puppy. The third negative review just sounds like fiction. He says he was working on the house and found 60+ small dogs. He says he called animal control. His story doesn't ring true. There is no public record of animal control responding. As a public safety agency, all such responses are recorded and open to public scrutiny. A "bust" of that many animals would also have made the local news, but there is no record in any of the local papers either. It just doesn't sound true. read more

This woman isn't mentally stable. I could cut and past all of her emails to me to prove it. However I don't want to invest anymore of my life and my time to her. After giving a deposit and waiting 4 months for a puppy, she changed her mind and won't be selling us one. She claims she will send me back my deposit. She's NOT a reputable breeder - she's not mentally stable. She may have been a good breeder in the past - but now she's just a person trying to make a buck. when I decided to adopt a second Havanese, there were only two in the state of Florida where I lived that I would consider, Janet being one of them. I had known her through the world of dog shows and knew she was a careful, knowledgeable, and responsible breeder. my girl is now 8 years old and I still can contact Janet if a question or concern arises. When my oldest was having trouble, not a Janet's breeding, she was the one who quickly diagnosed the issue and told me how to treat it. When I discussed it with my vet, she was all on board in agreement. Janet Birdsall of Yuppy Puppy is simply a puppy mill. I purchased a puppy from her 3 years ago. Upon finally being "excused" to leave her dirty home with our puppy, my husband and I looked at each other and both said that we just rescued a puppy. As it turns out, my vet pointed out that she gave us possession too early according too Florida law and my pup hadn't been given a bordatella shot because he was too young when we picked him up. I filed a complaint with the state of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services against Birdsall's vet for signing off too early on a puppy. I wish that department could shut down Yuppy Puppy for being a puppy mill. Don't trust her! read more

Janet is one of the best breeders in the country. She is strict on who gets a puppy. I have been to her beautiful home many times. She only has 5 dogs. She is an AKC Breeder of Merit whom has won Westminster 3 Times over the years. Her dogs are so socialized, well behaved, very happy and not scared of anything. Yes, when you walk in they bark (they are running around the house), but within minutes quiet down. They are very laid back. I know for certain they sleep with her as well. Don't know who these people are, but I doubt they ever met her. They are probably competitors trying to ruin her amazing reputation. read more

This lady is scum. I was doing work at her home in Ft Pierce when I kept hearing a radio blaring on the side. I went over to the laundry area and listened and heard dogs barking so I opened the door and discovered at least 60 small dogs left in very small areas with 3 stalls and very little space to go outside. They were going crazy when I saw them as they probably had minimal human contact. I asked the old lady that was there who was taking care of all these dogs and she said she was, I called animal control and she has since moved from that house on Hartman ave in Ft Pierce. If anyone tried to describe to me an experience such as I witnessed last Saturday, June 20th when I accompanied my friend, Donna Castellano to Yuppy Puppy in Fort Pierce, Florida, I would have found it hard to believe. In fact, I told my friend, Donna, I would not believe such a thing could take place during an otherwise happy occasion such as a prospective puppy visitation except I saw it all with my own eyes! I have dealt with breeders all my life, having had three cocker spaniels so I know what behavior a professional breeder should possess - especially a breeder who is listed on the AKC Breeder Directory. I have never had such a rude exchange with any of my breeders, who were all too happy to answer whatever questions I had and no matter how many times I asked them. That is why I am still shocked by what I witnessed in the behavior of Janet Birdsall. You would think people who are around puppies would be patient, gentle and kind and soft spoken. In fact, I was shocked beyond belief that I had to question if the puppy Janet had grabbed out of the bin and held in her hand while she yelling and ranting was not being stressed. I was dismissed and told "I don't know who you are " and shut down every time I tried to ask questions and advise my friend, who remained gracious and calm despite the way she was treated. No matter what dog my friend wanted, she was told she couldn't have. My friend is a recent widow who needs companionship and this puppy was eagerly awaited. Our ride down in the car filled with happy anticipation was destroyed by the arrogance and cruelty of this awful woman. I am not well, suffering with MS and I was unable to fight back against this bully. I finally told my friend that I would not buy a puppy from this woman. Janet heard me and we all decided it was best to have the deposit refunded and we left. This was all too much for me and I was devastated for my friend who has lived for this puppy every day for weeks, so I found myself crying out of sheer frustration and sadness. I would sincerely tell anyone who asked me not to go near this breeder. She is not deserving of your money or your presence. read more

I am posting this review not so much to complain about Janet's refusal to return my deposit, she obviously needs the $500 more than I do, but rather to express my deep sadness and sorrow to know that with this breeder, the sweet little baby Havanese are abused. I can only imagine how many of these puppies have been denied a loving home, I can assure you it has been many, because it is impossible to deal with Janet and as a consequence her puppies have been made to live in squalid and over crowded cages with little human contact for unreasonable amounts of time as interested buyers are turned away due to what can only be described as emotionally troubled and deeply disturbing behavior by the breeder. It is bewildering why someone would over breed, have an unconscionable amount of puppies for sale and then make it nearly impossible for interested parties to purchase them. I shudder to think what happens to them after they have passed the 'desirable' adoption age. Not a good thought. I guess it is in the end, all about the money - that is very regretful and disappointing. I only wish that she would stop over breeding, and allow her puppies be placed in the loving homes they deserve. This needs to STOP. What can be done? read more
