I volunteer at least once at month at the warehouse and various fundraisers and events for the pantry as this is a caused close to my heart. They provide pet food, toys, medications, leashes, help with vet visits and more for their clients to ensure they can keep and provide for their pets and not sacrifice taking care of themselves. I learned so much about the great work they are doing for individuals, children and families who are experiencing hardship in accessing food. A bit of background: They are the state's largest private hunger-relief organization. They provide enough food to feed more than 116,000 hungry Oklahoman's each week through a network of schools and charitable feeding programs in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. During a recent volunteer experience I got to see first hand what others in the OKC community have been raving about. This is the most well organized (and fun!!) volunteer experiences I've ever had. The volunteer leadership team does a great job at providing an bit of educational background about the organization and overview of what's in store for our time with them over the course of the next two hours. Thursday nights are Rock-N-Box, where volunteers sort, organize and package food items ready to go to Oklahoma's hungry. I'm not joking when I say it was one of the most fun things I've done in a long time, with the added benefit of making you feel good. They had two DJs spinning some killer hip hop, and everyone knew the words and was kind of singing or dancing along. We were able to visit with each other and be a little silly, and the three hours flew by. One of the guys who works there even did some freestyling. He was good and it just made it even more fun and unique. I didn't know the Knights of Columbus guys knew the words to old school rap but it appears some of them do! There were lots of groups there but individuals can also volunteer. The facility itself is beautiful and spotless. The ground floor level is where the sorting happens, and upstairs is a volunteer break room where you gather before the evening starts and during a mid-evening break. It was wonderful see how every dollar donated is utilized to fight hunger. We were putting together the bags for the kid's backpack program, which helps keep kids from going hungry over the weekend. We were doing elementary school kids backpacks, which contain only items that require no cooking, such as cereal, fruit cups, milk and juice boxes, pretzels, etc. Sometimes this food may be most or all of what some kids have to eat all weekend. Putting everything together is a well-oiled machine: an assembly line set-up gets the bags put together, and someone weighs each bag to make sure all bags are exactly the same. I like this because I imagine that a hungry kid probably always (understandably) feels like they've been shortchanged. Double checking to make sure they're all the same seems more important in this situation. I was helping to seal the bags before they got boxed up. They then also weighed the boxes to be absolutely certain all the backpacks would be refilled. It seems nothing slips past their system and they do a good job of keeping the night on track while being friendly and fun to volunteers. You just kinda wanted to bless each bag, send a little love as you seal it up, and hope that the kid who gets it has a little bit better of a weekend. All the while, singing along to Beastie Boys - an enthusiastic five stars.

I got there November 19th of 2025, I told him that I needed to get stable and get in to my own…read morehouse and work on getting my SSI started so I would have income coming in, they absolutely nothing to help me, not to mention every day there was nothing but drugs and drunks everywhere you turned, needles on the ground, it's not a safe place to be, and when I found out that the night shelter was closing on March 31st all I did was worry about the people that was there and that I had made friends with people with that were in wheelchairs and couldn't walk or didn't have legs or feet or who could even barely move that wheelchairs because when they kicked you out at 5:30 in the morning you had to have all of your belongings too or they would throw it out in 24 hours I had to stand in line for 2 hours one morning just to check in to eat breakfast pouring down rain or when that bad lizard came in when the temperature 40 and the minus Celsius was 40.

It is quite embarrassing for OKC imo to be honest that so little is done for the homeless community. We got to cook food, serve it, and assist with keeping the dining area organized and clean. There was a lot of interaction and everyone got food and drinks. It was a quick effort and gave some good insight into what happens at this facility. They offer more for the homeless than just a place to get food, and I totally recommend you to get involved.

An employee was loudly looking for the owner of a Tesla because my dog was inside the car, even though Dog Mode was on, the AC was set to 70 degrees, and the temperature was clearly displayed on the screen. I immediately explained that the car was in Dog Mode and that my dog was completely safe. What bothered me most was that even after the situation was clarified, there was still no apology for the way it was handled publicly. I completely understand people caring about animal safety, but situations like this should be approached respectfully and after actually checking the circumstances first. Tesla Dog Mode exists specifically to keep pets safe and climate controlled while owners briefly go inside stores. Staff should be educated about this before publicly accusing customers.

After reviewing options I did not think I could take care of it, so I called wild are and they are there on Sundays so I headed out. Once there I rang the bell for admittance and was met by a very nice lady. She came out and got the carrier and had me fill out some paperwork. She came back and told me it was actually a mole and was an adult. I asked her if I should have left it and she said not tht it was very unusual that it was above ground. She said they would check it over and if all good release it back into the wild. I did not know this place was here. There were 5 or 6 ladies there working on things. I left them a donation since they are a 501 c3 non profit with no public funding at all. Many thanks to the folks working there.

I found an injured bird, called this center, and was told to bring him in. That gave me hope, so I…read moredrove two hours. The staff smiled, took him in, mentioned donations, and I donated -- trusting they would actually help him. They promised updates by phone or email. I got nothing. For weeks, no one answered calls. When I finally got through, I was told the bird had been euthanized because he was paralyzed. No call, no notice, no chance to step in. For a place that calls itself a rehabilitation center, deciding paralysis equals death is disturbing. Instead of honesty and care, I got silence, false promises, and attitude when I questioned it. They took my trust, my donation, and the life of the animal I brought to them.

If you are homeless this is the best place to come to and they really show that they care and are in your corner. This place is a place to transition you to getting your own stability and even though it's tuff at times they help you through the rough times.
