I actually filed a complaint with the Board of Health against Dr. Zachmann because of the way he treated me after my 4-year-old son's tonsillectomy. We left the surgery center with instructions to call if we had any issues or questions and if it was after hours to have the ENT on call paged. About 5 days after the surgery, at about 10:50 p.m., I had the hospital page the ENT on call, which happened to be Dr. Zachmann, because my son was refusing to eat and had vomited three times and was in pain but couldn't keep down any pain medicine. When he picked up the phone, I explained my concerns, and he replied, "Well, if he doesn't eat or drink, he'll die." I was shocked and asked, "Is that really your response?" And he said, "Well, you call me in the middle of the night to ask about not eating or drinking, and if he doesn't eat or drink he will die." I told him I was aware of that and was trying to get advice on whether I needed to take him to the emergency room, if there was a medication he could prescribe for the nausea, etc. I was in need of advice and all I got was cruel remarks because he was upset I had him paged at night. I'm not sure if anyone explained to Dr. Zachmann that is what being "on call" means and that unfortunately sometimes people get sick after normal business hours. He was extremely insensitive and offered no useful advice and showed no concern whatsoever for a 4-year-old little boy who was miserable, in pain and scared. I refused to go back and see him for my son's follow-up visit, so I rescheduled with Dr. Harter, who was very nice. read more
