Zander's Game House is a pleasant surprise! I went into the establishment with a curious mind hoping to find a place to enjoy some gaming....actually D&D gaming. Not only did I find very welcoming (and very knowledgeable) owners Jeanne and Brian, I also found that they only have extremely nice and non-judgemental clientele. This is a place where anyone can go and have a great time and meet new friends. They have an extremely wide variety of table top board games, a large chess game, hosted D&D games and tournaments....I'm barely scratching the surface with all that they offer. Man I wish I lived in Camarillo! This place is fantastic. $5 a person to play unlimited board games all day. There are so many games for all ages. And not just the ones you would expect, like Monopoly or Clue, but a whole range of games you may not have heard of. There's trivia games and puzzles and board games of varying difficulty. Zander's is an awesome spot for a game night. We'd walked by a few times, and kept meaning to stop to play. A few weeks ago we booked the place for a party and everyone had a blast. So if you're looking for what a typical experience might be, here's mine: I walked in, grabbed a day pass for me and a friend. We played a giant chess set for a little bit, and then some Stratego. A staff member claimed to be 24-4 on the board, and offered us a match if we were interested. We declined, so he introduced us to what might now be one of my favorite board games of all time, Make 'N' Break, where you have a set time to make elaborate structures from building blocks. A few other people walked in and I convinced them to join us in a game of Betrayal at the House on the Hill, where you explore a haunted mansion before the game flips with one person being chosen to betray the others. We had a couple more minutes to kill, so we played a game of Suspend, which is like Jenga, but you suspend metal wires from a stand and try to keep everything balanced. Overall, they have a ton of board games, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a formidable stock of snacks and drinks. The time flew by, and I'll admit I was a little sad when we had to go. This place is awesome! My girlfriend and I stumbled across it on a Saturday night after dinner. Went in and saw large shelves packed with game boards! After a brief convo with an employee, we bought our way to a buffet of awesome board games. We played classics like Battle ship (Star Wars edition), Operation (Star Wars edition), Chutes and Ladders, and Candy Land. The guy who helped us even thought us a few few quick and easy to play games! Even though I was only visiting the area for the weekend, I'll come back here and definitely bring more people. This place is beyond awesome. We just hosted my son's small birthday party here and it could not have been better! Jeanne is absolutely amazing, accommodating our last minute party and checking in on us throughout the afternoon. Jeanne provided tables and area for food and cake, making sure we had candles, you name it. She is awesome! The kids were very happy and so were the parents! The whole vibe of this place is so calm and comfy, it really felt like we were having a game night at our home (but with SO many more options!). We can't wait to come back and play some more games! Seriously, this is now my favorite place in Ventura County. In the three weeks since opening, I've already visited Zander's over 10 times, and each time I leave with at least one more new gaming buddy than I had before. The game selection is out of this world, with something like 700+ choices (I see new additions each time I come...I'm convinced the games are breeding during off hours...) ranging anywhere from light hearted Educational/Kids games, to incredibly complex/tactic themed board games. All of the classics are here, and there is a 7'x7' chessboard built into the middle of the floor. My hubby and I have been waiting for a place like this to open for a long time. So when i found out there was a game store open in old town I was over the moon excited, but I had very high expectations of what I wanted it to be and I was worried it was going to hold up. To say the least they complete exceeded my expectations and continue to surprise me! We went in a couple of day ago just to check it out and see if it was somewhere we'd like to hang out and the owners made us feel very welcome! We came back a few days later to play and we bought our first of many to come monthly membership (which was on $25 and you get to come back and play as many time as you want!) so my husband and I stayed for several hour on our first visit and play several game. Our first game was a new game that my husband and I had never played before so the owners had some helpful setup/how to play videos for us to watch and once we figure out how to play the game it was a lot of fun! We also enjoyed playing giant chess, which the owner Brian graciously help us remember how to play since it had been so long since either of us had played ! I found out as I was leaving that they have my favorite Somis Nut House candy and snacks along with fresh baked goods from a local baker! I just can't get enough of this place I can't wait to go back and bring my friends! I am also supper excite about their themed night I'm really looking forward to pajama Sunday and "adult night"! And if you want to learn to play D&D there groups there that I'd be more than happy to teach you. Jean and her husband the owners are great people friendly and they made me feel so welcome I go there every Wednesday now. I recently moved to Camarillo and still getting to know the area. While walking the boulevard, I walked in and learned about this place about 3 months ago. I brought my nieces and their friends here today for some fun and they absolutely enjoyed themselves. It is an awesome place that really takes you out of the norm these days of fake engagements via gadgets. Honestly I expected something completely different when I first saw this place, but I was honestly surprised and impressed with the quality and amazing owner inside. It's clean, there's food and snacks to buy and almost any board game you can think of, from family games like Monopoly to party games like Cards Against Humanity. My friends and I always struggled with finding something entertaining in Camarillo, and this place is the perfect solution.
