It is unfortunately and heart breaking that I am writing this review. On July 24th, I had an appointment and paid a deposit for my stylist to order hair extensions. My extension appointment was scheduled for August 7th at 11:00 a.m. On the evening of August 6th, I received a text from my stylist telling me that my extensions had not arrived. When I asked why, I was told by both my stylist and the "owner"/manager that there was an issue at the factory. I was then told my extensions would arrive by noon on Saturday. Saturday came, and I heard nothing. I reached out to both of them myself, only to find out that the extensions had, once again, not arrived. At that point, I began asking what the backup plan was. It wasn't until I became more persistent with my questions that a backup plan was discussed. I also asked why, during the approximately two weeks since I paid my deposit, no one had noticed there was a problem with the order or contacted me sooner. During this conversation, my stylist told me she had a lot going on and that my questions were taking time away from her family. As a longtime client who was simply trying to find out what happened to an order I had paid a deposit on, I found that response incredibly upsetting. When I contacted the "owner"/manager, one of the responses I received was: "What would you like to do about it? We don't have hair to put in your head yet. I wish this *factory* issue was in my control, but it's not. I'm happy to refund your deposit. That's not gonna get hair in your head though. Let me know if you have any ideas." My concern was that developing a Plan B for a service the salon had scheduled should not have been my responsibility. My stylist later mentioned that my extensions had been overnighted. That made me question the explanation I had been given about a factory issue. I brought that concern to the "owner"/manager and said I was beginning to feel that perhaps the extensions had simply not been ordered when they were supposed to be. I was assured that was not what happened. So I did my own research. I located the company representative/distributor through which the products are purchased and contacted them myself. According to the information I received, there was no factory issue causing this delay. I was told my extensions were ordered on August 7th--the actual day of my scheduled installation appointment. That is ultimately what upset me the most. Mistakes happen. Had someone simply said, "We forgot to order your hair. We are incredibly sorry, and here is what we are going to do to fix it," I would have been disappointed and probably annoyed, but I could have respected the honesty. Instead, I feel I was repeatedly given an explanation that did not match the information I later obtained myself. The extensions eventually arrived at Zee's. At that point, because my trust had been damaged, I asked if I could purchase the hair and take it to another salon for installation. They refused. I also learned that the price Zee's was charging me for these particular extensions was approximately $150 more than the price I was quoted elsewhere( exact same hair/ brand etc ) I wish I had researched and compared pricing beforehand, and I would encourage anyone considering extensions--or any expensive salon service--to do the same. What makes this situation especially painful is that this was not simply a salon I had visited a few times. I had been a client for 15 years. I considered these people friends. The "owner"/manager herself referred to me as a friend during these conversations. She attended my wedding, has watched my child grow up, and over the years our conversations went far beyond hair. I asked for an apology. I received silence. I even offered to resolve the situation privately and move on if they would allow me to purchase the extensions and have them installed elsewhere. They still refused. I will also acknowledge my own part: as this situation continued and I felt I was not getting truthful answers, there were times when I became frustrated and my messages were not as nice as they could have been. I own that. But I was asking questions because I had paid a deposit, had an appointment scheduled, and the explanations I was receiving were not adding up. I have retained the texts, screenshots, dates, and other documentation related to this experience. After 15 years of loyalty, I never imagined I would be writing this review. The original mistake--forgetting to place an order--would have been forgivable to me. The lack of honesty, the way my questions were handled, and ultimately receiving no apology are what ended a 15-year relationship with this salon. If this is how a longtime client and someone they considered a "friend" can be treated when something goes wrong, I think prospective clients deserve to know about my experience. What an overpriced disappointment my last visit with Ketiesa was. I had been going to this salon for years and always booked with Ketiesa. Last visit was right after they reopened after covid. I arrived a few minutes before my appt and two Winnebago where at the door putting on mask. After I went tu the door and saw sub saying tu call from car so I did. Ketiesa came out a few minutes later and was upset that I was 5 minutes late. Her station was in middle of the floor with no mirror in front of me. She cut an inverted bob like I had been getting cut for over a year. Twice she had to go to her regular station and then took a phone call. After she was done handed me a mirror to look at the back. I got home and saw that one side was about 2 inches shorter in front than the other side. I called her and sent her pictures. She said she would even it out but I didn't want the front that short. I told her that and asked if she would give me free cut next time and she said no would only fix it. So I had to wear it like that by putting short side behind my ear until it grew out. She didn't wash my hair or used any products at all and spent 20 minutes with me less the 3 times she left for some reason. I paid $72 for this awful haircut and haven't been back there since then. read more

Used to go here, pre-Covid. After things started opening up, I was a cheapie and used the "Bob's Barbershop" : low cost, but low quality. Hubby talked me into going back again, and boy! Was I pleased! My hair had been chopped up, terribly. Maddie started with a gentle wash and condition. We chatted for several minutes about what I wanted. We moved to Roanoke from the west coast. I read all the online reviews and decided to try Zee's based on those. I've never once been disappointed and I've been going there now for five years. The staff at Zee's are all talented, hard working, dedicated and fun. They prioritize ongoing education and support "local for local" charities and events. Their standards are high. They care deeply about their salon and are warm / friendly in person. I always consider my appointments a treat. The salon itself is very nice, open and comfortable. I've read the negative reviews on Yelp. They make zero sense to me. They are 100% contrary to my personal experience. If there was ever anything wrong... Zee's staff would fall all over themselves to make it right. They have never once pressured me to purchase any products. They offer guidance if I ask. "They delete negative reviews" uh no... there are quite a few negative reviews. I'd suggest reading the rest of that person's reviews before deciding that they have any credibility. If you're still concerned, discuss the review with Zee's. I think you'll appreciate the response you'll get. These folks deserve their five star reviews. read more

Didn't love the cut, especially for the price. The stylist was more intent on upselling me than listening to what I wanted. Instead of a trim to get off dead ends and touch up layers I got a very basic blunt cut that is not flattering. Then I was rushed out the door because her next appointment was "on her lunch break" so the next client didn't have a lot of time, meaning the next client's time and money was more important than mine. If you're looking to pay almost $60 for a cut that looks like a $25 job, this place is for you! read more

I hadn't had a haircut in years because of a bad experience at another salon. I decided that I must do something about the split ends on my super curly hair so I called Zee's Salon. I was able to get an appointment for the same day which was great. I felt a little anxious as I pulled up to the appointment in my flip flops, jeans, and tee shirt, I was worried that I was underdressed for such a classy looking establishment. I was kindly greeted immediately upon walking in. I had a seat and moments later Katesha come to take me back to her station for a consult. I explained to her that I wasn't really looking for a style as I enjoy wearing my hair up. She suggested a deep conditioning treatment which I took her up on. She made sure that she was very clear on what I was looking to have done and what I hope to achieve in the future with regards to my hair. Once I was in the chair receiving the trim I realized I had fallen into the right hands. She made small cuts, no huge chunks. When I left the split ends were gone but the hair was not much shorter than when I came in which is exactly what I wanted. While she explained to me which products she used and did offer to send me home with product she didn't make me feel pressured when I told her that I am a minimalist and already have product at home. I have lived in this city for 9 years and have finally found a hair dresser. read more

I showed up one day after bleaching my hair at home in desperate need of help. My hair looked terrible and I couldn't get a brush through it. My friend had recommended Alex and thank God for that! Alex took the time to evaluate my hair, listen to my needs and come up with a plan to get it back to a healthy state. Not once was she judgmental about it but throughout the entire process and every appointment since, she has been kind, professional, knowledgeable and overall amazing to work with. I've had a lot of stylists in the past but this has by far been the best experience. She takes the time to listen to exactly what I want and delivers one of the best results I've ever had. I've moved out of state and can still reach out with any questions and she's always willing and excited to help. I plan on making the trip to continue to work with Alex because her skill and how she treats her clients is unmatched! read more

Heather cut my hair, gave me my pedicure, and waxed my eyebrows. She not only did a fantastic job, but she taught me how to do my own hairstyles and take care of my eyebrows and nails myself. She has her own line of hair products that I plan to go back and buy next time I get my hair cut, and I did buy her hair diffuser that is AMAZING! She was also easy to talk to and made this one of the best salon trips I've ever had. The girls that work here are true professionals and are a level above other salons you'll go to, while still being comparable in price. I was extremely surprised that there was no option to tip on the credit card, and when I questioned why they responded that they are professionals and only wanted to have us write good referrals and send more customers their way. Heather taught me how to do my eyebrows and showed me how to use a special eyebrow pencil that they had, I ended up buying it on her recommendation because of how well it works! I kind of suck at being a girl, but she was extremely understanding and tried to teach me something whenever she could (in an absolutely 100% welcomed way, I need help!) I also want to give a shout out to Sam, the pretty redheaded girl that did my French tips for my manicure, as she did an absolutely amazing job. She's extremely talented (Heather too, obviously!) she also did my boyfriend's haircut, which looked so good! Both girls stayed 45 minutes after closing (9:45pm) to finish my nails, which they absolutely did not have to do and I do appreciate. I had put it off til the last minute because I always chip or smudge my mani-pedis (often before I even leave the salon) and am going on a cruise, so I wanted it to last as long as possible. I definitely didn't have to do this though, because however they did my nails has kept them from chipping like no other mani-pedi I've ever had! I get my wash, cut & style done by Angie. She is excellent. She's very courteous and attentive. She's conservative with her shears and won't chop the entire length of your hair. She's very efficient and does not try to push you to buy their products (not aggressively). I leave feeling like a princess. My husband gets his hair done with her too and he will go to no one else. I kept 1 star because it's a bit pricey--but I know I'm receiving quality service. read more

Zee's Salon saved me one day when another salon had turned my hair into something that looked like a football helmet--pink and yellow and blue striped. I knew that is anybody in the city was a color master, it would be Zee's. She saved the day and had me come back the next day free of charge. I buy their products for my daughter who lives in Charlottesville because she says Zee's products are the best for her hair. If you don't need new products, just say no not this time. Heather does my hair, understands my curly hair and where all the cow licks are. Nobody does my hair as well and I do quite a bit of traveling. I came in and got my hair done in late April to get my highlights done here. wanted to give a review of my services. I waited to send a review because I wanted to see how my hair grew out before I gave my feedback. While at the salon, I felt extremely pressured the entire experience. My stylist was so sweet but the entire time she was pushing me to buy products and bragging about how great of a hair stylist she is. Once I left I was disappointed with my hair but since I only go to school in Roanoke, not live there, I was not able to come in for her to fix it. My roots look like they were never touched up, my hair is frizzer and more damaged than ever, and I am just extremely unpleased in general. I can not believe I spent over $200 on this service but I will never make this mistake again. I recommended my stylist to a friend just so I could get the discount and she texted me saying how upset she was by the experience and result. My stylist was a sweet girl and seemed to care about her job but I was so disappointed with my results. I really loved the feeling in this salon- it was relaxed and felt luxurious but I am giving it a low rating because at the end of the day I was just not happy with how my hair turned out. read more

WORST spa/salon I've ever been to! It was $27 for the worst manicure. They made you sit in a chair with a pillow on your lap and they did your nails, very poorly. They did not soak or treat the nails, they just buffed and painted. I could have done a better job myself with my eyes closed. The polish chipped the next day. I had Heather, and all she did was talk about herself and how great she was, which she wasn't. If I wasn't with a group for a bridal party I would have complained and refused to pay that outrageous price. The next day I also go my hair done for a wedding. $55! for 25 minutes and a simple up do! $2.20 A MINUTE?! WHAT?! The lady who did my hair was sniffling and blowing her nose the whole time, and she didn't even act like I was there. I would never wish this kind of spa experience on anyone, so STAY AWAY FROM ZEE'S SALON! They even reviewed their own salon on here. Lame. read more

After leaving Zees Salon completely disgusted, I will address different topics separately so everyone can get a complete understanding of Zees unprofessional, uneducated, and careless staff members. Overview: Zees came recommended to me by a friend that had used them for a wedding. I was excited to try something new, and was looking forward to having a stress free prom afternoon. I thought my hair, nails, and makeup would be taken care of for me at Zees. Hair: I arrived at Zees and the staff member working on my hair seemed confused. She didn't know what tools to use to curl my hair, and kept leaving and asking other staff to help her. After an hour straight of pathetically trying to curl my hair, the girl gave up and said that's as good as it was going to be. My hair was frizzy, burnt, and completely uncurled. She obviously didn't know what she was doing. Makeup: The most disappointing part of Zees for me. The lady doing my makeup seemed rushed and spent no more than 15 minutes doing all of my makeup. Keep in mind this was for a formal prom. After she was done she didn't show me what I looked like and walked away. I assumed it looked good. I was wrong. Shiny, orange foundation was smeared unevenly over my face. Dark clown like eyeshadow was choppy and was not blended correctly. The eyeliner was laughable. It was extremely uneven, and one side was winged and the other was drawn all the way to the side of my face. I didn't even have mascara on. Nails: The nails were decent. Not many colors to choose from, no designs, high prices but it was ok. The lady was friendly as well. After leaving Zees Salon I looked in the mirror and realized everything was a disaster. I drove home with only an hour to spare before prom and had to take another shower to remove the hideous makeup and fix my hair. My hair is now burnt from improperly used tools. I ended up doing my own makeup and hair and it looked much better and didn't cost over $100. The moral of this story is: PLEASE don't waste your time and money here. The staff is careless and does not know anything about basic hair and makeup. I am extremely disappointed with my experience. read more

I tried this place out for pedicure. It was a birthday gift for a friend. When I made the appointment I was basically told to pick a time which to me meant they weren't too busy. We wanted side by side pedicures. We got there and were put in nice chairs to soak our feet, but no one could get to us for 45 minutes. The pedicure was OK. But probably won't be back. read more

I needed my hair thinned and trimmed and I picked Zee's because of the positive reviews and advertising. I chose to have my hair cut by one of their less experienced stylist because I have chosen to do this in this past at other salons in Roanoke and elsewhere. I have also, in the past, went to beauty schools to have my regular "trims" and I have always been completely satisfied. So when I chose Zee's I thought, given their reputation, that their LEAST experienced stylist would be more talented than the most talented stylist at some salons. However, I was wrong. I explained to the stylist that I only wanted my hair thinned and trimmed into long layers (I already had layers from my previous cut). This is not what I got, I explained several times before and during the hair cut that I did NOT want my hair short and that I was trying to grow it out. I ended up with very UNEVEN and SHORT layers. During the cut, the stylist had to get two more experienced stylists to come and "check and fix" her work. I am VERY disappointed with the end result. The other stylists that were "checking and fixing" her work obviously were talented stylists and helped to try and fix what she had cut incorrectly. They were also very accommodating and friendly. I thought that the least experienced stylist here would be experienced enough to cut hair independently but this person seemed to be being taught to cut hair, much like the beauty school. I have never been this disappointed with a haircut from a professional salon ever. Please think twice before getting your hair cut by an inexperienced stylist here....you would be better off to pay a fraction of the cost and go to a beauty school where you know to expect student stylists or pay more for the most experienced stylist. read more

I have been seeing Danijela for highlights over the past year and recently a new dark brown hair color and have been extremely happy with her work. Moving here from a larger city, I took some time to find what I thought would be a good salon and I have not been disappointed. Each time I visit, it is an extremely relaxing experience. We go over the color and cut I am thinking of and then the process begins. One thing worth noting is this salon does not accept tips. They will try and sell you additional hair treatments or products in lieu of tipping. Many times I have gotten a conditioning treatment after my hair color and at my recent appointment I purchased some of their Silk Protein shampoo and conditioner to take home. Any additional products I have purchased at the salon have been high quality and always leave my hair feeling great! Overall, I definitely recommend this salon and also Danijela for color. read more
