The sessions were fun and informative. I later bought a painting kit that she created and it turned out to be the best painting I painted. I show it to people all the time and they are surprised I did it. The instructions were clear, there was more than enough paint, and best of all, I can repeat it again if I want. Our instructor, Ashley, was amazing! Super patient and it was easy to follow along. You submit 3 designs, and 1 gets approved for the custom rug (already drawn and set up at your station). Rug tufting took a few hours. Felt like a mini workout; be sure to stretch your hands/wrists/arms LOL. Rug pick-up usually takes a couple of weeks. Highly recommend booking a workshop with a group of friends! The experience was so much fun.

Go through the main entrance doors and it's on the second floor. The carpet can be anything. I'm glad we did the bigger one. You fabric gun this entire project and it does have a sharp edge to it. They are all great teachers and will do complex parts for you if you are worried about messing it up. People came to pick up their finished carpets during our class. It was pretty cool to see all the finish products. You are also allowed to borrow a tripod and film your experience (great idea). It says you can BYOB but I watched other people struggle with the rules of where you could keep your glass. A spill in the small studio with all the electrical equipment is a disaster. I'd opt to bring a well sealed water bottle and go for a night cap after. I'd definitely recommend this as a cute date night or team building event.

It's also more than just a gallery space but an urban wear boutique as well. Christian Azul and GONZO 247, Houston's famous and incredibly talented artists, are the down-to-Earth guys behind Aerosol Warfare and made this eclectic location home a few years ago. But they've been on the scene long before that. I love that each time you visit Aerosol, you never know how it's going to look like inside because the walls are constantly re-painted with *sick* murals in the gallery and boutique space. Clothing is mostly designed tees and some denim, with a few belts and designed bandannas in the curio. I've added a few funky shirts to my collection, one most recently is neon green with a giant jelly-fish like creature atop a head ... with a fist in its mouth. Strange, but ultra unique. You'll also find more art hanging from the designed walls, but in the back is the official gallery space. It's just a small room, but once again, always changing. For those who complain about the gallery space, you have to look at the big picture. Aerosol Warfare Gallery & Boutique is one giant piece of art itself. You never know where you're going to find the clothes laid out, the funky furniture complete with a vintage painted refrigerator and boom box, shelves of books about graffiti and art, newly designed murals, and even the splatter-painted restroom; they all uniformly come together and make Aerosol what it is ... funky, urban street art. This is also the place to pick up a copy of the hard-to-find FRANK magazine. Aerosol is also active in the community, doing live work for non-profit events and hosting events of their own. They've joined with CKC StArt Street & Urban Art and offer graffiti classes, led by GONZO247, to everyday folks like you and I who just want to learn more about technique, history and just have fun. Anyone up for a lesson? I heard they're really entertaining. If you really want to learn more about Aerosol, subscribe to their newsletter to get word about new exhibits, art openings, artist meet and greets, classes, new clothing lines and sales. Their gallery openings are a blast because you get to meet the artists, maybe check out live art, listen to a DJ, sip bevs and chat up with the owners; but swing by on a regular day to really admire the exhibit space and sift through their gear without mobs of people getting in your way. It will definitely be time well spent. As I mentioned, the owners are two of the kindest guys I've ever met. Anyone who comes to their boutique, from the high money-makin' art collector in a suit, to recently-exposed-to-art tweens--and even the neighborhood homeless dude--the Aerosol team treats welcomes all with open arms. I had been curious about Aerosol Warfare's gallery, but I always seemed to miss the openings. Plus, (begins whining) it's on the other side of Montrose/Fourth Ward/Midtown and that's faaar (NOT!--jk). Can you tell I'm sheltered? Anyhow, I talked to Christian and he couldn't be nicer, more knowledgeable, and enthusiastic on the subject of graffiti art. My personal favorite is a local artist called Ghost Town. I love finding his Pac-Man ghost tile mosaics in random places around Houston. I hope he gets a show or produces more stuff for the gallery. For the time being, I "invested" in two magnets of Pac-Man and a ghost and they now proudly occupy space on my own personal Galerie Le Frigidaire.
