Randomly stopped in here for a massage while walking through the mall. I like that they post the types massage and cost outside. The prices are pretty reasonable compared to other comparable stores I have visited. Staff here is friendly. They were not to busy so I was seated pretty quickly for a foot massage. The water temperature was hot and the massage was pretty good. The pressure was a little on the lighter side than I prefer but my feet were aching and it felt really good. The chair I sat in was very comfortable. One thing they did not perform is a back massage. Some places when they do a foot massage, is roll you over and do a quick back and leg massage. One place I go to does it so I got used to it, but a lot of places do not. A foot massage is just a foot massage and maybe the lower parts of the leg. You can call ahead to make an appointment or (and I love the convenience of this in contrast to other massage places in Anchorage) just walk in. Very reasonable prices and lots of choices on the menu. Acupressure is different from an oil massage - there was lots of deep pressure massage which may or may not be for everyone. If you aren't sure about that, perhaps consider starting your first time with a foot massage rather than table/full body massage. Either way, highly recommend. This place solves my problem and nearly puts me to sleep every time (in a good way!) I come to Zen every time I find myself in Anchorage and I regret it never. I LOVE this place- both the 5th ave and diamond mall locations. My husband also loved the pressure and stretching he gets here. No, it's not a "get your own room and undress" type of place BUT I think that's what makes it unique. Sometimes I just want a really great foot/shoulder massage and this place gets it done probably better than 70% of other "get undressed in a personal room" places I've been to. It's great because you can choose from a bunch of options and it's SO AFFORDABLE. I've done the table and chair massages before and ALWAYS get the foot massage!! It's the BEST! My review is for the Dimond Mall location. The first time I went here I was recovering from a lower back injury. I walked in on a whim looking for some pain relief. The massage was firm which I love. I was pleasantly surprised that in 40 minutes they also turned me over to put on an eye mask and facial oil. It was super relaxing and unexpected. On the downside, I've never been able to successfully revisit the location. I have walked by many times hoping for a quick walk-in but the wait time is always too lengthy. On my last attempt I was fine with waiting, but a couple came in with their crying baby. I ended up leaving because I wouldn't find it relaxing to hear screaming during a massage. The massage is easily a 5/5, but the overall experience is incredibly dependent on whoever else is there at the time. I'll continue to try again and I hope to visit on another quiet day. read more

The place is called "zen acupressure" so I suppose a lot of pressure is to be expected, but this massage was just painful. I was in more pain leaving than I was when I arrived. I'm almost certain the employees don't actually know much about massage as they just use so much force it causes bruising and swelling and just makes things worse. Aside from that, you can tell they try to create a "zen" atmosphere, however it is still in a mall so all the children screaming and teenagers hollering for attention will still be audible. read more

What a relaxing, pleasant, wonderful experience I had at the Zen today! Although they are a newer business, I'm still surprised I'm the first to review them, which I will happily do. After getting a manicure at the nail salon next door, I decided to try Zen's "Package D," which included a 30 minute table massage and a 20 minute foot massage. After the face down portion of the table massage, the face up included a pleasing lavender temple/forehead massage. Ahhhhh! The foot massage started with a brief foot soak, followed by 20 minutes of a make you fall asleep in the plush chair with a lavender eye mask on bliss. Both of the masseurs were very professional and respectful. Don't shy away just because they're located in the mall- you will miss out! The dim lighting, serene decor and zen music make you feel like you're in a regular spa. They did not ask if I had any injured/troubled areas, but I won't take a star away for that. If you prefer less pressure on your massage, let them know before you start. Unlike a regular salon, however, their prices are completely reasonable. My 50+ minutes of bliss only set me back $58. I wish I could split my rating into two sections: experience and venue. If you're planning to strip down and have Enya playing during tour massage, you're not gonna get that here. I asked for 2 90min massages for myself and a friend over the phone and the woman I spoke with spoke perfect English and gave me no indication that this might be a problem. When we arrived, we found all the tables together in an open room with fringe in between. The employees spoke VERY little English, which made it really difficult to communicate what we wanted. She seems kinda pissed that we wanted 90min, so we chopped it to 60min. You obviously can't take off any clothes. The doors are open the entire time and it's inside of the mall so all you hear the whole time is people screaming, laughing, fighting, kids crying, etc; not very peaceful. The massage itself was pretty good, kinda rough though so watch out for that. She didn't even touch my feet in the whole 60min massage so I asked for another 20min in the foot chair, which irritated her too, I think. Only time she was really happy is when I tipped her, but whatever. I'm not sure I'd go again unless I need a quick massage. I much prefer the private room where u can disrobe and have some peace. read more

I was not that impressed. I booked massages for my sister and I when we were visiting Anchorage a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the masseuse didn't ask if I had any injuries or problem spots. There wasn't any paperwork to fill out, and no way for me to share with them that I had an old injury from a car accident that would occasionally cause trouble. The masseuse used too much pressure and re injured the spot and I have now spent almost $1,000 at the chiropractor trying to fix the damage that was caused and am in constant pain. read more
