Our first night there she needed help and they left her unattended for almost an hour. They forced her into a diaper even though her surgery after care said absolutely no diapers. She was constantly uncomfortable and not listened to. I found multiple roaches in every room we set foot into. On top of all of this my mother is deaf and they refused to get her an interpreter. They gave her a white board on the first day to communicate and when I returned the next day it was on the other side of the room... making it impossible for her to use. When I insisted she needs an interpreter for effective communication, they simply gave her a tablet THAT SHE HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS TO USE. Famously deaf people need their hands to communicate so this did not work and they did not offer a solution. At one point they caused her wounds to open and she was bleeding all over her body. They insisted that I come in and interpret so she wasn't scared.... hmm seems if they needed me they also needed an ACTUAL INTERPRETER. Please please do not send your loved ones here. My mother and I are still traumatized from our experience and I wouldn't wish what we went through on anyone. I'd give this place 0 stars if I could.

Not to mention, they literally waste no time- I was on the bed, hooked up to an IV within minutes, waited a little while, anesthesia kicked in, the last thing I remember was being in the OR & woke up in the recovery room. As I was going to bed I looked over and three patients were just surrounding her because she is empathetic but also instills wisdom sobriety care and concern for each one that contributed to sobriety. Helen is also a five star employee she is efficient keeps her word and will take a moment just to chat to the broken hearted like me. I have attended Sunrise three times and always felt loved and cared for and could see that everyone was doing there best . Tyrone and all the techs are quite amazing. Housekeeping does their best but sometimes cannot get everything thing done because one girl on a day is not enough. Here is what saddens me something has broken at Sunrise. I as an alcoholic an attic of course am not perfect and can be hard to handle and my behavior can be inappropriate. I can tell you what my concerns are for you the next patient. During this stay I was let down many times I was told to keep my word I cannot tell you how many requests where I was told yes I'll help you and then hours would pass and nothing. I believe administration is at fault. The center takes all your toiletries and places them in a box and in the morning you ask for them to shower after a few days of someone saying yes I'll get them and then it never happens . I had no shampoo but you can get it at the desk well I did ask and there was no body wash or shampoo I had to wash my self with my sock as a wash cloth and use soap from a dispenser three times there because I could not get my needs met to take care of myself. Also the counseling staff I believe is doing the best they can but they are stretched out to the max and what I found is no team work there if you need a phone card or if you would like to drink soda or purchase cigarettes you must fill out a form and you are told they will be filled by 11. This is not true bring your unsealed cigarettes if you can because everyday except for when Jessica is handling it this never happened so you follow the rules fill out the form and then time and again the be they were not processed until three four or five and you must stay vigillant and keep asking over and over till you know you are being a nuisance but realize you must to get your order processed they used to have drivers to get u there and get you home be prepared to get yourself home. I lived in Syracuse the last time had to Uber to penn to get on the Amtrak very alone felling very vulnerable and now put in a high risk situation to drink. is very dangerous to say to someone by take care bye and be left on the curb. The administration was neglectful there are four counselors in total and if one is extremely busy and I needed help there was another just out there sitting in the vitals chair shooting the breeze while at least four patients needed something I asked this counselor to help me process something or could you help me with phone card and was told no I am not your counselor. I was very confused at my job we work as a team and if my coworker is busy I help them as best I can even though I'm not assigned to that area I can help we have the same job title I do it. Also I was neglected ignored lied to mislead asked for help with calling my eap asked for paperwork stating where I was told yes and again no follow thru I asked to call my eap rep but because I was not following theirsuggetion I was told I cannnot help you. I was then passed by ignored neglected and abused from that moment on.i asked to see counselor was told yes and it never happened. I needed to address my truth and life. I couldn't go to the rehab they wanted me to I had to go home first to prepare I was then told I can't help you when never received any paperwork was ignored from there forward and also neglected my parent was coming to get me and no one told me they just kept walking by me as I sat in filthy clothes and was refused my clean clothes and laundry detergent the administrative assistant abused her power and was dishonest st I saw counselors and administration who have lost the There way. They make it so nice that even if you don't want to be there, initially, its easy to stay and begin coming to terms with why you are there. Staff is excellent, food is great, accommodations are very comfortable. After Detox, they carefully chose the best rehab facility for my family member, based on what they learned about him. 90 days into this and he is doing very well, is applying to stay longer so he is more confident about returning to his life.

My 86-year-old Mom had been admitted to…read moreBelair as a Sub-Acute Rehab Patient back in 2019 (Pre-Pandemic) and I first Met Marie Jean Baptiste who works in the Admissions Department. Marie immediately saw to all my needs and answered many questions, as this was my first time ever dealing with a Rehab Center. The care that my Mom received at Belair this very first time was excellent. While on the first floor, in the area where the short term sub-acute patients stay, the Nurses and PT/OT got her back on her feet (literally) and she was discharged to her home in great shape. This was a short stay, but I knew if my Mom was in need of this type of care in the future, I would not hesitate to have my Mom placed at this facility. 2021 My Mom is a Resident at Belair and is thriving. Once again, meeting with Roseann and Marie at Admissions, all of my needs were met with the highest degree of attention. Andrew Yandoli (Administrator at Belair) explained to me in detail, the process for my Mom's transition from Short Term Sub-Acute care to Long Term care in a way that was not overwhelming, and certainly put me at ease. Dr. Krichmar (Medical Director) and the Nursing/Aide staff on the first floor Sub-Acute care area took excellent care of my mom, before moving her to the second floor as a Resident. Susan (RN Unit Supervisor) as well as Maureen (RN Nurse Manager) were always available to answer my questions and concerns. The Nurse Practitioners, Danielle and Dr. Ebby handled all of my Mom's prescription medication needs, and that wasn't always an easy task. The many nurses like Holly and Payal as well as Yolie are always so caring and attentive. Nurse's Aides like Tiesha, Erlinde and Andrea (my Mom calls her "Guardian Angel") on the second floor are excellent and my Mom is grateful (as am I) to have them taking care of her. The Nursing Director Theresa and the Assistant Nursing Director Marjorie are so great in guiding me when it comes to various issues that arise with medication or outside doctor's appointments. Lynn is super helpful with setting up transportation and Aides for my Mom when she needs to leave the facility for outside medical specialists such as her Orthopedic Doctor. The Rehabilitation Director Angela and her staff of OT/PT's are awesome. My Mom sees Gus (PT) and Brianna (OT), and always speaks so highly of both of them. I see them in the hallways, and they never fail to give me updates as to how she is doing in Rehab. The Social Workers, Nikki and Blanca as well as the Belair Business Manager Jenny have been very helpful with navigating the waters of transition from Sub-Acute short-term Care to Resident Long-Term Care. Walking into The Belair is always a good experience. Vito (reception area) is always there with a smile and a quick temperature check. He's happy to reach out to anyone I may need to speak to, upon my arrival, or transfer a phone call when I need some help from home. Vito's Dad John is in charge of maintenance and Housekeeping and was a great help to me, while setting up my mom's new space. In fact, Vito and His Dad are not the only family team at the Belair. Marie (Admissions) and her son Ken as well as Maureen (RN Nurse Manager) and her Daughter Jessica also work at The Belair. Roseann and her Daughter Stephanie (HR) also work together at the Belair. Funny thing... My Mom has now called me a few times (after I've not been able to reach her) to tell me that she's been "BUSY". The Recreation Staff on the 2nd floor is excellent. Maria, Joyce, Jeanine and Dawn really keep the residents busy. My Mom has become quite "Crafty". Between Church services, Chloe the therapy dog, and singers that come in, my Mom always seem to have great stories to tell me. The year leading up to my Mom being placed at The Belair was extremely stressful, and knowing my Mom is now being cared for on a daily basis is a HUGE RELIEF.

This rehab Center has a terrible, obnoxious, haughty and rude, nurse practitioner. He was in charge…read moreof prescribing and coordinating medicines for my wife during her recent stay there. He never consulted us or discussed pros and cons of the medicines and changed them without us knowing the side effects or interactions among them. I had to constantly go and ask him about them. One day he got extremely angry and yelled out "How many times do I have to tell you. Get out of here. I'm not taking care of your wife. Take your wife and go. Get out. Go." I was totally shaken and stunned. I told him he was not the owner. I wanted to talk to his boss, the medical director. He flippantly answered." Go ahead and talk to him. I am not his son." I complained to the Administrator and the medical director later. They both said they were reassign his area, but really didn't since he was at his nursing station whenever he worked,on our floor. They didn't fire him or even admonish him as I could tell. This kind of egregious professional misconduct should not be tolerated anywhere in rehab centers. These employees work there because of patients and rehab centers are open because of patients. There were times when medicines would be delayed, even after asking for them up to an hour. All in all most of the supervisors, nurses, aides, PT staff, admissions staff and receptionists were very nice people. The food is not good and we had to bring it from outside most of the time. I'm giving this place a one star because this nurse practitioner ruined everything for us. We were in the middle of rehabilitation, so didn't want to change Centers. I'm thinking of complaining about him to the New York State education department, National Health Care Associates (owners of Bel-Air, ) and Medicare among others. Anybody considering putting their loved one here , is strongly cautioned about a possible similar horrible experience to ours and should think about it very carefully.
