There are two floors so it is crowded but spacious enough for plenty of food at each table. They have lots of sushi you can't even get at most sit down places in the US including lots of torched nigiri and roll options. The salmon don and ramen were great as well as were the desserts. The service was prompt and we ordered with an iPad. We tried some great sake too. The only complaint regarding service is they gave us a plate for another table but it happens. Would love to come back here again in Montreal as this may be the best of many AYCE sushi places but would love to try another one too. All in all, this was a wonderful last meal in this amazing city.

There is a male host/front-of-house staff member who is extremely rude and does not know how to speak to customers. He was impolite from the start, and the situation got worse as the night went on. We were a group of four. We placed our order and waited 30 minutes, only to find out that the restaurant had cancelled and thrown out our order. Meanwhile, we watched people who arrived after us getting their food. When we asked why we had no sushi, we were simply told, "Sorry, we lost your order, please order again." When our food finally arrived, the same rude host brought it to our table. He literally threw the plates down and walked away without saying a word. To top it off, they automatically added a tip to the bill, which felt aggressive considering how poorly we were treated. They did not deserve that tip. I do want to express out Rebecca, our waitress, need retraining, ande the male host completely ruined the experience. He is the reason I will never recommend this restaurant. You need to do better.

The highlight of Sho-dan's arsenal is their assortment of specialty "concept" rolls which can be extreme in presentation, and atypical in taste, even to the most seasoned sushi ranger. My friends are Japanese restaurant enthusiasts and loved the quality of cuisine, from the tempura, to the slices of raw goodness, down to the perfectly matching sauces for each dish. When seated we were changed to the counter seating, because we picked Omakase option. Our evening centered around the Omakase 5 option, which not only allowed us to sample some of the chef's creations but also provided a front-row view at the counter to witness the preparation of each course. The Omakase 5 included two appetizers, a main course, 10 pieces of sushi, and a dessert--a generous and fulfilling selection that left us full and content. A standout dish was the fish consommé, a clear, delicate broth cooked over six hours and served piping hot. The chef guided us to dip each sushi piece halfway into the broth, balancing between warmth and the sushi's coolness. The heavily vinegared rice, when paired with the rich consommé, created a beautiful contrast of flavors, temperature and textures. The sushi course was equally remarkable, presenting ten pieces, each with a small mound of rice topped by a thick, fresh slice of fish. Two King salmon pieces--one marinated for eight hours and the other served raw--showcased the nuanced ways salmon can be enjoyed. The selection of tuna varieties (big-eyed, yellowfin, bluefin, and fatty tuna) provided a spectrum of flavors, each distinct and satisfying.
