Great Day on Lake Tahoe, But Know the Rules & How to Navigate! Open: Sunrise to sunset Parking: $12/car, with plenty of parking throughout the complex. Restrooms: Porta-potties plus 3-stall restrooms for each gender. Zephyr Cove Resort is a solid spot if you want to rent water activities on the South Lake Tahoe side. They offer power boat rentals, parasailing, jet skis, SUPs, kayaks, beach chairs, umbrellas, ice, wakeboards, and more. Rentals are weather permitting. You must be 18+ to rent, or 16+ with a valid photo ID to operate a personal watercraft. We rented a 24' Crest Pontoon OB for our group. The boat holds up to 13 people or 2,397 lbs. Since we had 14 people, we had to be weighed before departure. We booked the 3-hour rental with the 4th hour free for $925 + fuel. The power boat came with a tubing. Our total ended up being $1,248 as of June 2026. Before departure, everyone signs an electronic waiver, which serves as the contract agreement with the company. Boat operation: The boat itself was relatively easy to operate, pretty much like driving an automatic car. The more important part is knowing how to navigate the lake and read the maps. Your crew needs to designate a captain and co-captain. They are responsible for learning how the boat operates, making sure everyone follows the rules, including wearing life jackets, and checking the boat's condition before departure and after returning. Emerald Bay was our favorite swimming spot. There were plenty of people kayaking, paddleboarding, tubing, and boating around the area. The water was lukewarm and crystal clear, and the scenery was gorgeous. We also got lucky with beautiful blue skies that day. One thing to REALLY pay attention to: life jackets are required whenever you're in the water. There was an active boat patrol on the lake, and our boat was stopped because one of our friends forgot to wear a life jacket while tubing. The captain received the fine because he's responsible for enforcing the rules. Interestingly, the fine depends on which side of the lake you're on. We were told that a ticket on the Nevada side is around $25-$100, while on the California side it can be around $87-$250. Lesson learned! Navigation back to Zephyr Cove was probably the most challenging part. The venue doesn't have a particularly high-visibility landmark or tower, so finding our way back wasn't as intuitive as we expected. We ended up using our Strava app to help navigate because Google Maps seemed to lag/delay. Returning the boat itself was easy, but docking/parking it back was another story. Staff wanted us to park parallel in a specific spot, and it took us three attempts. Each attempt failed, so we had to circle around and try again. Definitely a little stressful after several hours on the lake! Overall, though, we had a really fun day on Lake Tahoe. The boat was easy to operate, Emerald Bay was beautiful, and having our own pontoon gave our group a lot of freedom to explore and swim. Solid option for renting a boat or other water activities around South Lake Tahoe. Just make sure everyone understands the life-jacket rules, and be prepared for a little adventure when navigating back and docking. read more

Zephyr Cove Resort provided us with a wonderful Lake Tahoe getaway, offering a seamless check-in process thanks to Daniel at the front desk. However, the initial booking challenges, due to the six-month advance requirement, we had to book two reservations. We so loved our initial spot for three days, and while the second location was just okay, the proximity to the lake--only five minutes away--made up for it. We book travel with our dog in mind and this resort offers a beautiful, dog-friendly beach section that offers ample space and a relaxed atmosphere. Our dog loved it. Nothing like the entire family at the beach. Of course-Always leave -no trace behind. The resort's amenities like paddle board, kayak, boat, and jet ski rentals are a great addition. Nice to see the many options. We, however- prefer bringing our own water toys. The stunning sunsets, shallow swimming areas, and crystal-clear water made for an idyllic retreat. I had a fun time with my friends. We rented the 36 foot Weekender. That boat has some issues. One engine was down the entire time we used it. Also, the bbq wasn't ready for us. We had to swap out the propane and they didn't even tell us. Good time but I wouldn't rent that boat again. read more

While we did not stay at the Resort, I want to give a huge thank you to Peter who worked in the booth of the parking lot. We spent 1.5 hours driving around the lake with our three kids looking for beach access. We were disappointed their parking lot was full but Peter went above and beyond to give us direction to an awesome beach and we had a beautiful day. Thank you, Peter. We arrived at the RV Park about 6pm, check-in was closed, we walked across Hwy 50 to check-in. When we had our site assigned we attempted to back in to the site. I knew as we drove by we wouldn't fit, with the 2 slide-outs (when I had made reservations, one of the questions they asked was about the slide outs and the length of the trailer)between the trees and parked vehicles everywhere, we where're able to maneuver into the site. read more

We love the cabins. Hadn't been in years. Came up with family & stayed in #9 & #10. Both really spacious with full kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms, fireplace and great view of the lake. Both dog friendly. Check in went smoothly. Property is nice and manicured. Beautiful trails to walk with or without pets. Nice pet friendly beach, huge plus! Other buyers beware. Do not purchase from this company unless you're willing to take whatever they give you instead of what you purchase. Apparently they often cancel the tour last minute on weeknights when both their boats aren't packed. If you're determined to take a risk with them, at least don't pick a weeknight. But truthfully, there are lots of other companies that will take you out on Tahoe Lake at sunset. Pick anyone else. Full experience below: I was flabbergasted by the way Zephyr Cove Resort treated us this weekend. Had I known of their horrible business practices, I would never have purchased from this resort.  We purchased the Sunset Wine Tasting Tour and the afternoon of the tour were informed we had been moved to the Dinner Tour on a different boat. That is not at all what we paid for and even in the case of an emergency cancelation, we would have expected to be offered a choice between a refund and the new tour.  I bought the tour I did to celebrate my anniversary with my husband. He was recently diagnosed with stage IV cancer and this was likely our last anniversary. We planned our whole Tahoe trip around the wine tour, took time off work, and paid for accommodations for both us and a babysitter. We picked this tour specifically for the smaller boat and we picked a weekday night specifically so there would be fewer people. We wanted a romantic sunset boat ride and we needed fewer people because of my husband's cancer.  We contacted Viator as soon as we found out about the tour change, and they were baffled because nobody at Viator was aware of any change. So we headed to the dock anyway. When we arrived, we found out that the tour truly was canceled. Why? Because they decided it wasn't profitable to give us what we paid for. Viator confirmed at least 25 people had paid for this tour, so even that wasn't enough. Instead everyone who paid for that tour were shunted over to a big boat packed with so many people you couldn't even pull a chair out. It was loud and packed and absolutely not what we paid for.  Based on other people's reviews, I'm sure the tour would be delightful if you get to go on it. But don't take the risk. God forbid you start some steam. All the Karen's come over. Harassed non-stop. No one is an experienced firefighter. Everyone blocks your Rv in because they don't know how to park. The front desk was no help either. Security was called because we were making s'mores. Yet everyone else had fires. The security was not worried at all. The Rv parking spaces are too tight. I had my wedding here June 13th and the day of was perfect. The food and staff was great and the back drop of the blue lake and mountains were beautiful. My only complaint was the communication leading up to the wedding. I had a coordinator that wouldn't email or call back and eventually left the company without giving my notice. We had to drive up there 2 weeks prior to make sure our wedding was even happening. Glenn and Cassie took over 2 weeks before and made sure the day went off without a hitch. The check in process for the cabin was not smooth and 2 of my guests were over charged and they couldn't find their booking. Overall I would have my wedding there again but wish I had a different coordinator from the beginning. read more

We stayed here for a bachelorette weekend and had a blast! The location is close to Stateline & other popular beaches/activities. We didn't have any issues with noise since we are early risers, but people start getting to the beach very early so be aware of that! There is also no AC of course and the cabins are prone to bugs like wasps/bees/spiders etc! read more

Our wine tasting tour was cancelled with no notice. We paid to eat dinner in their restaurant so we wouldn't be drinking on an empty stomach and then got to the boat as was told then we were moved to the dinner cruise. We were stuffed and couldn't eat. Then we paid for pictures taken on the cruise with a digital download--went to download and it's $30 more dollars (on top of $45 we paid on the cruise) to download. Called and got shuffled around with no answers. Was told to email management and 5 days later got a sorry I'll forward your message email so it was not a management email. We also paid to stay in a cabin--the fireplace didn't work. Anytime we called for help we got "I don't know--I can have someone call you back" and no one ever did. We spent over $1000 to stay and cruise and nothing was what we paid for or expected. Won't ever go again. read more

1st time here I am glad we stayed the weekend. The grounds are clean and across from the lake. The general store is also across the street attached to the restaurant. There are 2 properties 1 is the cabins on the lake and the RV resort across the street. We stayed in the RV resort and they also have an area for those who are in tents. The RV sights have full hook and a propane station. You are able to use the fire pit so bring the fire wood. This resort is just 5 miles from the casinos and hotels for those wanting a little night life, shopping or just a bit to eat. The only problem we had was the water hook up leaked and we could only use when needed. read more

We had a lovely Sunset Wine Tasting cruise. The wines and appetizers were tasty. The lake was beautiful and the ride was so smooth. This place was absolutely HORRIBLE. They basically called us liars and made us spend over $100 in uber to get to the resort and back. They said there was a shuttle and there was no shuttle. They refused to give me information to speak to anyone else. We were stranded at zephyr cove resort for an hour trying to get back to our hotel. The fact that they refused service. Summer was absolutely HORRIBLE but Camila on the other hand was GREAT. All that summer did was tell us that they would not help us and that we lied and went on a walk and that's how we missed our shuttle. We in fact were waiting for the shuttle and then went to ask for help after seeing no one would come. Camila was very nice and tried her best to help us find a way back. Never coming back here again and neither should you. And we were not the only ones by the way! read more

We came here to use the beach, but our experience was awful from the start. While my husband went into the store, I waited in the pickup/drop-off zone (which is also labeled as store parking). A male staff member immediately started yelling at me and threatening to tow the car. When my husband came out, the man escalated demanding a receipt, shouting profanities, and even claiming he called the cops. Completely uncalled for and aggressive behavior. I shrugged it off as he seemed like a miserable old man and hoped we would encounter better staff members at the actual beach. Parking was just as frustrating. We arrived at 2:29 PM, public parking opens at 2:30, but were told to leave as it wasn't open. We asked if we could wait the minute in line and were denied. Meanwhile, the next car in our group was allowed in immediately after us. We circled back, the attendant said they weren't open yet (even though he had let several cars in), I asked to speak with a manager and suddenly there were 50 open spots. No consistency or courtesy. The jet ski rental staff were also rude and unhelpful. The only decent service we got was from the food and drink employees. Overall, Zephyr Cove and South Lake Tahoe in general felt unfriendly and unwelcoming. We much preferred the north side, where people were kinder and the vibe was more relaxed. Bathroom had black mold around the tub and on the ceiling and walls. The shower curtain was dirty. The floors hadn't been swept with hair and debris everywhere. Trash was found under the bed. The rest of the cabin was in order, just older and in need of a deep cleaning (cobwebs, dust etc) If mold sensitivity is a concern you might want to explore other cabins. The rooms are pretty dirty here . I've stayed quite a few times and never had a clean room. Imagine the cleanliness of a motel . That being said,The views are amazing , cabins are close to the water. I consider staying here to be borderline glamping. That being said BE AWARE OF THE POLICIES. We booked a cabin, tried to upgrade to a larger cabin and we got told that we can't make any alterations, even tho we were planning on spending more money on a larger cabin. Overall, while this place has its negatives, if you understand what you are getting yourself into and understand this is more of a place to sleep and house your things while you are out and about then you won't be disappointed read more

We stayed here with our motorhome in late September and it was delightful. The entire RV area is nestled in tall pines. The spaces are paved for our camper, that's a big plus. Room for maneuvering is a bit tight, but remember RV's weren't so big back when these campgrounds were built. Everything is clean and well maintained. My only concern is that too many people drive way too fast within tge campground. I would certainly stay here again, and highly recommend Zepher Cove. read more

Campground from Hell! Arrived early with a dog who diarrhead in my car and they wouldn't let us set up early despite there being no one in our ADA site. Now let's talk about this ADA site. It was more than halfway in on a steep hill. Unlevel spot hard to back our travel trailer into. Hard to walk anywhere from this spot (183) bc of hills every direction. It's across from a site where employees live brought in on a Visa from Europe. They don't help. Just zoom around in their golf cart all day talking to each other. In fact threatened us that WE were loud ignoring other people's loud music in this trailer trash place after 10 pm. The bathrooms are NOT in compliance with ADA standards. I may turn them in for this alone let alone the abuse to a handicapped person. No seat to sit. There is nowhere to put your shampoo, soap, razor in the shower section and the other side has a seat and shelf where you keep things supposedly dry. No shower curtains so everything gets wet. No adjusting the shower head. Toilets are in separate rooms. Just an outdated very bad setup. This place is a dirt pit!! Rocks and dirt everywhere. No grass for dogs to relieve themselves. Garbage cans are sparse. No one in the office regularly to assist. The ONLY positive about this place is it's across the street from the Zephyr Cove beach and parking is FREE there if staying at this campground. But Camp Richardson looked far nicer and has a similar setup and their reviews are better. read more

We came up to Zephyr cove July 1st-3rd and stayed in one of the air streams. First off the staff here was friendly and the air stream itself was ok. It's what we expected from an air stream. Shower is a little small but the bed was comfy. I think our biggest problem was the lack of utensils, cookware, and bbq tongs etc. when I mean lack there were NONE! Not one bowl, plate, utensils, NOTHING. We asked the guy who gave us the keys to the #2 airstream and he said we were supposed to bring our own paper plates etc. The description of the airstream is false. We had to use our friend's camping supplies to BBQ. Extremely disappointed by this. Other than that it's a nice camp ground. read more

Close this place downs absolutely the worse place to stay in Tahoe hands down, just a matter of time before this place is closed down. Watch out for this place they will move your camp site without telling you, or your cabin. Booked 6 months prior and drove 8 hours to find out the airstream zephyr rental was moved from it's nice location to 5 feet from a cross walk and busy highway. At least we got our money back but not even an apology in fact they laughed at my two young boys (8&11) while they where very upset we drove for no reason to just have to drive home. Wouldn't believe the competence and unprofessionalism of the staff, not one of them is from Tahoe and barely speaks English. I understand seem to know anything about the property or with willing to help in any way. It's just a matter of time before this place gets bought out what a shame. 100% never got to zypher cove resort. If I could I would give it negative stars read more

This review is specifically for the RV Campground. I booked a 50' pull through site during the winter time. They plow the sites and access roads but don't expect to use the picnic table or fireput. Stayed in cabin 10 and had an amazing long weekend. The location is perfect, we were lakefront and the entire staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant has really good food which makes it super convenient. I used to rep hotels for 20+ years and feel comfortable recommending the resort. They do need a light spruce up- furniture, lighting. No full length mirror- made it hard to get ready for nightlife. But because Lake Tahoe is a few steps away from the front door it was very easy to get past. read more

We made reservations about 10 months ago for an Airstream rental and were greatly disappointed when they called two days before our arrival to cancel. The person stated the Airstream section had been flooded from the recent storms and they needed to cancel/reschedule. Being weather related, I understood at first. As we live in the valley below. I knew of their cabins. However, they didn't bother to ask if we would be interested in a cabin. As we had friends enroute to N NV from AZ with their fifth wheel. I asked for one of their cabins instead which they were able to reserve for us. Our friends arrived a day ahead of us to advise the Airstream section was not at all flooded and one of the trailers was occupied. Now I'm not as understanding. Upon our arrival, when I asked what the deal was, they stated the other Airstreams were not airtight and flooded with the recent heavy rain. Our cabin was OK but was not what we wanted originally and overpriced in my opinion. They put us right up against highway 50 and all you heard was traffic all night long. This was not a relaxing stay. There were only a few other cabins occupied during our stay. When I asked for a late check-out on the day we were leaving, I was told no as there was a reservation coming in that day. I didn't buy the denial and packed our things and left. The restaurant had good breakfast and service. The beach and lake were fun to swim and paddleboard. The MS Dixie is located at their dock, as well as boat and seadoo rentals. Perhaps I would give the stay better stars if the Airstream issue was communicated/handled differently. No discount was offered for the mishap either. read more

Upon arrival tour space was not cleaned up as there was still a reservation slip from the last camper in place on the post along with candy wrappers and an eaten corn on the cob. Then the restrooms and showers looked as though they had not been cleaned since last season, trash not even dumped. Also there was nobody working in the evening to ensure quiet hours as a group of high school kids were singing and chanting until 10:30 pm when finally my husband had to walk over and ask them to respect the quiet hour starting at 10 pm. Also our site was on a hill so the picnic table was on a horrible slant and the fire pit was down from that in which the tent campers would walk through our site. We will not be coming back. I was charged twice for a single boat rental and was lied to in regards to a refund. It took 2 weeks of harassing them with phone call after phone call to get them to start the refund process. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, the supervisor sounded the most sophomoronic of them all and making comments to agitate me further when they knew that they had overcharged me. We have been coming to this RV camp for years. In the past we have always had a good experiences. They must have changed their reservation method. I called multiple times to set a reservation. I finally got a male in the restaurant office who told me to call back after 12:30. I did, I got a lady who told me I needed to call the 800 number on their website I said no problem but the website doesn't let me select a site. Since we would be coming in late we would like a pull thru. She transferred me to the RV campground manager. No answer, I let a message.....NEVER heard back. I called the 800 number on their website website. I got a male, I asked if he could see if there was a pull thru available. There was it was in the front area but a pull thru...site 114....awesome. He told me our paperwork would be taped to the outside of the lodge door which is across highway 50. This surprised me, usually the paperwork is tacked to a board at the store located in the RV campground. He said they don't do it that way. We arrived at 9:30 pm.... Walked up and down the front of the lodge....NO PAPERWORK. I seen two young males coming out of the restaurant door. One came out the lodge door. He said the paperwork was still being put on store at RV store. We went back across highway 50...mind pulling a RV trailer. The lodge parking lot is NOT made for such vehicles. We got our site info.....site 104...? Someone genius at the campground changed us to a back up site 30 feet from highway 50. There is a BAD SITE. It's very difficult to pull forward enough to get your trailer lined up to back up between sitting one each side. I told my partner let's just pick a site and deal with the genius who put us in site 104 in the morning. It took awhile but my amazing partner got the RV trailer in. After parking and sitting up, he said, We are done with Zephyr cove RV campground. Keep you updated...the weekend has just started. We got up Saturday morning made breakfast figured this was our lot. Headed over to the lodge to the front desk to pay. I told the lady, Lori, what was going on she was very nice, she kept apologizing, she was very helpful. She gave us a discount and move us into a pull-thru. After paying I headed back to the site packed everything up, hooked up the trailer got everything ready to move to site 140. We were pulling out making a tight turn when a young lady on the golf cart stop us, she said no one told Lori that the people in site 140 had asked to stay an extra night. We couldn't get into 140 until 11 am. So we parked our truck and trailer in front of the camp store waited until 11:15, previous people still in the site...11:35 I called Laura to see what could be done...we spent 2-3 hours of our weekend waiting because some genius had given our reservation away. There is collateral damage due to dumb decisions. With all that Loti did to make our experience better zephyr Coves reserve process sucks. Next year reservations.gov is taking over the booking of sites. More updates to come the weekend is still young. NOTE: the staff at Zephyr Cove have been great except the blonde girl driving white truck and trailer the wrong way. Really, come on?! UPDATE- Sunday morning I received a call from lodge office Jade let us know we were not being charged for the one night... Out of all the destinations surrounding beautiful Lake Tahoe, I would have to say that "Zephyr Cove" is definitely one of more popular places that tourists flock to. The resort itself has just above everything you can imagine; lodging, RV camping, dining, weddings, parasailing, watercraft rentals, and cruises (that depart directly from here). This review I am writing is focusing specifically focusing on the beach itself. Located on the Nevada side, Zephyr Cove lies on the southeastern part of Lake Tahoe. Getting here is fairly easy as Highway 50 runs adjacent to the resort. Keep in mind that if you are willing to come here for the day during the warm summer months on either a Saturday or Sunday, I would advise getting here before 10:00am. The parking lots fill up very quickly. As of July 2019, the parking fees are $10 per vehicle. I arrived with my lovely lady at around 10:15am on the morning of 7/27/19. Since my hometown of Sacramento was expecting a high temperature of 105° that day, this seemed like the sensible thing to do to escape the miserable heat. It was exactly a 2-hour drive from our home and no hiccups. My familiarity with the entire Tahoe area also made coming here an absolute breeze. Fortunately we parking in a shaded area and made the short 5-minute walk to the beach. We had our cooler, two beach chairs, two beach bags, and an oversized blanket. As I mentioned, get here as early as possible if you want a spot to layout before the crowds arrive. I would even recommend arriving by 9am as people were already setting up their canopy shelters, umbrellas, tables, small tents, and beach chairs. Since we had a relatively small amount of items, we found an area to sit but were already surrounded by a ton of families. So if privacy is your thing, I would NOT recommend coming to Zephyr Cove and try a different beach as Tahoe has a ton more secluded places than this. A few minor things about Zephyr Cove Resort, there is a small bar that is adjacent to this beach. Here you can order, beer, wine, mixed drinks, and blended alcoholic beverages. They even have beachside service where they can take your drink order and bring it out to you while tanning. A few other things is a small picnic area, sand volleyball courts, a small stand that sells water toys, a public restroom, and plenty of places to dispose trash throughout. Overall, "Zephyr Cove Resort" is a decent place to spend if you're looking to lay out in the sun or go for a swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe. Many people have mixed opinions of this place based on the service of the cabin and RV parking. But for me, its a place that I enjoy coming to when in the area. Other than the stinging sunburn I received from the high altitude and bright sun, this was an overall above average experience. My rating, a solid four stars. read more

While camping under the pine trees directly across from the lake is ideal, this campground is in poor shape. Sites are uneven, with some being so tight that it wasn't safe to step out of our RV or we might easily trip and land downhill. Additionally, getting reservations took over a year. read more
