Zero Degrees has east Asian food and drinks including but not limited to bubble tea, ramen, Korean-style corn dogs, and egg waffles. The store is colourful and cute but not over the top, and the seating is very comfortable. They have wifi. I got a taro meets ube drink with pudding and a pumpkin spice egg waffle (fall special). I haven't had an egg waffle in a while since I don't know of any other place in Bloomington that makes them and I love pumpkin spice, so I was very excited about this waffle, and it did not let me down. The pumpkin spice flavour was nice, the waffle was fluffy and cooked right. They lightly drizzled it with a caramel sauce but the waffle itself wasn't too sweet so it balanced out. I liked the taro meets ube, which was taro milk tea with ube paste. The taro and ube flavours were similar but enhanced each other. I didn't see if I could adjust the sweetness level, but the default wasn't overly sweet. I was able to get this drink with soy milk instead of regular milk, although the barista let me know that the ube paste contains milk that can't be removed. The barista and lady cooking in the back both seemed very friendly. My drink was ready quickly. It took a while, maybe 15 minutes to get my waffle, but they apologized for the wait. There's a 4% charge on card purchases. Bring cash to save a little. read more

Coming from Indy, the prices of bubble tea here are relatively cheap ($4-5) and there's a tonnnn of options for boba and tea flavors. Taste is definitely a 4/5 overall. The place has great seating to hangout with friends and is open pretty late, which is very convenient. read more

I was out of town visiting my sister. She suggested we try this interesting place for a refreshing drink. When she explained the options to me, I wasn't quite sure I understood and was hesitant. My usual go-to is Mountain Dew or other sodas. I don't drink alcohol and venturing into uncharted territory was slightly getting me out of my comfort zone. But, I'm always game for a new experience and a chance to taste something, as my sister said, that would be "refreshing". We arrived at our destination. My sister was giddy to arrive. However we joked at the signage saying they only had large cups. After going inside, it was obvious I'd never been in such a place. It kinda had an ice cream parlor feel, but with a modern twist. The digital menus had food and beverages atypical of most anything I'd ever seen. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon and it appeared as though the lunch crowd was past. Two girls looked a little haggard from having been extra busy, but they greeted us with pleasantries. For me, they picked up on the fact I'd never been in their restaurant and offered me some optimistic insight about their product. Wow!! They went thru many options of food and beverages trying to help me choose. They even gave me small samples of these juicy little spheres they call, I think, babo. They were both so nice I had to ask their names because I knew I was going to give them Kudos on YELP!! Jessica and Lilly had good synergy. They were fun, helpful, and informative. In fact, I recall the girl who called herself Jessica saying after I drank the one she made that I'd feel "official". Usually I feel bloated or still hungry or thirsty after eating or drinking. The term "official" was an interesting and stuck with me. But, you know....she was kinda right. She made some sort of icy drink call taro (tar-oh?) which was kinda lavender in color. She suggested it would be a flavor of vanilla. After sipping, she was right. But she was also wrong. It had a beautiful flavor of vanilla and also had a hint of what a berry scented candle might taste like. It also had a very sweet taste of cereal milk. It was kinda like the milk leftover after eating a bowl of Cap'n Crunch crunch berries. It was delicious. I can't say enough about the drink, the establishment, and the gals that helped. The next time I go I'm hopeful to get the same quality service and will likely try to make a meal out of the trip. Excellent!!!! read more

Whenever I'm in Bloomington I like coming here since it's close to family. I went yesterday, and wanted to get something new. I got the Ube Special and the person at the front was nice and said they heard that it's good with tapioca boba. The drink was pretty decent, definitely not bad at all, I just prefer sweeter options like Pineapple or Winter Melon. My friend got a Strawberry smoothie with strawberry popping boba, and we thought that tasted amazing! Let's be clear. . . I know next to nothing about Boba Tea. Or types, culture, or anything related to it - other than I like some of it. After dinner at the restaurant next door (review coming soon) I wasn't quite ready to head home and had always wanted to try the Zero Degrees place. My son (15) and I went in and were the only people present other than the young lady working there. It's counter service, with a full menu of options posted - milk teas, boba choices, smoothies, and more. I had a pineapple milk tea with boba and son had a banana-strawberry smoothie. My tea was great, and I enjoyed it - but when they made the smoothie with real strawberries and an actual banana, I knew I had ordered the wrong thing. So many smoothies are just a mix. I love that they have iced milk drink at Zero Degrees. It's not quite as good as Half & Half in Los Angeles, but it'll do. Even though I ordered half sugar, the drink was still super sweet. The boba was nice and Q though (aka chewy/al dente) and the pudding was soft and sweet. The iced milk drink is a pretty steep at $4.45 for a small. Other milk tea drinks are $3.45 for a small. Their Thai Milk Tea is a little bit...unexpected. They do call it a Thai Milk Tea as opposed to a Thai Iced Tea so it's definitely more milk-y. My friend added more black tea to it to have a more "Thai Tea" taste. It's still good overall though! I'll be back to try Zero Degrees Snow Ice when it's a little warmer. Don't think I'll be trying the savory food here any time soon though! read more

The biggest issue of this restaurant is that the food quality is not stable. I've been here many times since it's open. Half of the times the food was fine, but it went wrong equally often. Yesterday the noodle I ordered was even not thoroughly cooked. The staff were basically the college students, and the they come and go. Their cooking skills are the reason why the food could go wrong so dramatically. I texted the owner and he didn't respond. It's the only shop in town that provides a full menu of Chinese beverage, and maybe that's why the owner didn't bother to do something to ensure the food quality, because of lack of competition. She answered questions in an obvious manner that was demeaning. Not only was the service terrible, but the food did not make up for it. My boyfriend's tea was not even cold. I rushed over right away with a friend when I heard that there was a snow ice place in town! This place is popping in the afternoon/evenings, so I had high expectations. There are a ton of international students hanging out here - really well dressed and driving fancy cars. It kind of makes it seem upscale. The place is really well designed. It reminds me of the cafes in Korea. It's well lit and pretty. I think the snow ice was average... Albeit the best we have in Bloomington right now. Prices are average, food is average too. I wasn't a huge fan of the food but I don't think they are trying to make a name with that. There are a ton of bubble tea options. I heard they are ran by the same owner as Bapu tea. The tea was really good! I've never been a fan of the tapioca pearls so I can't comment on that. My friend enjoyed them! There are a lot of flavors to choose from and you get a free drizzle with your order. I got the milk snow ice because that is my favorite flavor. It was lacking a little sweetness, but still pretty good. They have a lot of toppings for you to put on your snow ice, but to be honest they didn't look very appetizing. I am a frequent visitor of zero degrees to get boba and I think I've had my worst experience. There were two girls working and one was super sweet who took our order and the other was rude and kicked us out of the dining room so that they could close early. On top of that, we asked for an ube smoothie with honey boba and got an ube milk tea with original magic boba so we reordered and got a different one. This place is rad. I come here basically every day when I'm in Bloomington. THE BOBA: pretty good. Definitely a cut above Quickly and the like. I'd go so far as to say it holds its own in comparison to shops in SF and LA, and (as some other reviewers seem not to have noticed), it's in neither of those places. It's in Indiana ffs, and in that context it's pretty damn good. THE FOOD: the classic boba shop snacks are just as satisfying as you'd expect. My favorites are the takoyaki and the popcorn chicken. The ramen is also really good, though a bit pricey for the area. THE ENVIRONMENT: chill as hell. This is where Zero Degrees really stands out. it's bright and nicely decorated while also being really cozy and just ~~chill~~. the wifi is super fast so it's a great place to work remotely or study. Overall five stars, possibly my favorite place in Bloomington. read more

The girl making my and my friend's taro shaved ice was putting her hand around in the topping container - with no glove or utensil right in front of our face! I walked over and had to tell her that I don't want her putting hands in our food! She just goes, "Oh." No apology. Honestly how reckless and gross can you be especially during covid?! And because her hand was digging around to get the taro, her hand contaminated the whole jar. I'm not a fussy person, but give me a break. This is the first time I'm writing reviews on yelp. This place is simply horrible -- from service to food. First of all, the lady at cashier has no idea how to put orders into the computer system and it took her about 10mins to figure it out before she took my order. It took me over 25mins to get my bubble tea when there were only three tables occupied in the store. Secondly, there snow ice is nothing like the ones I had in China/Japan/Korea. There is a very weird plastic taste to it. Lastly, I feel very disrespected as a Chinese customer in the store. I went there again a few days ago. The owner, who is a Chinese guy, ignored me and talked only to another Caucasian customer when I walked in to the store and wanted to ask questions. There were only two customers at the time and he invited the other person to try samples of the food and left me standing in the store for a long time. This place is okay. The snow ice is very average, can't speak on the food or boba. I had a good experience my first time coming in at around 10pm, although they messed up a few orders. My second visit was during busier hours and the service was quite subpar. They were apparently out of mango and green tea flavors and did not inform us while we sat in the shop for over half an hour. After speaking with them we finally got our order, which ended up being basically solid ice cream and not shaved at all. No one working here seems happy which probably explains the quality of service. read more
