You do have to order at the bar but the bartender was nice and the server was super friendly, even taking pictures for us. The roast itself offered a lot but would say it all could have used a bit more salt or seasoning. The cauliflower cheese also wasn't really cheesy. Well, on a recent trip to London, our last night found us looking for a bite to eat, and we were staying near the Zetland Arms. We were cordially welcomed, and received a few recommendations. If you are looking for a place with alright food and fast service this is for you. Pubs are all around London and the energy on this one did not disappoint. Years ago I got an AirBNB pad in Soith Kensington, and decided to do a little exploring up Brompton Road. I came here with my family for lunch today. I really liked the ability to order/pay through the app. We noticed that quite a few items were unavailable to order through the app. We assumed that these items were either out of stock or not served during the lunch hour. My husband was a little bummed because chicken wings were among the unavailable items, and he was really looking forward to having wings. Regardless, he found a different item to order, not a big deal. Our food came out quickly, and I was AMAZED by the fish and chips. We're from Wisconsin, USA and have some REALLY good fish fry restaurants... but this was better! The batter was top notch, the chips were great too! We all really liked our meals. Do not go to this bar. I had the worst bar experience of my life tonight. The bar confirmed that my purse was stolen but refused to let me view the security footage. They claimed they couldn't identify the thief's face, despite having numerous security cameras, which made me strongly suspect this was an insider job. I was seated at a corner table with friends, with my pink vintage Coach purse, which I inherited from my grandmother, hanging on the corner of my chair. The purse contained my American passport, California driver's license, pink Kate Spade wallet, credit and debit cards, and earbuds. It stayed on the chair throughout the evening, but just before we were about to leave--around the time the server cleared our table--it disappeared. One of the male employees with tattoos walked near my chair shortly before I noticed my purse was missing. No one else was seated behind me, and the only nearby area was a stairwell marked for employee use only. When I reported the theft to the staff and asked them to check the security footage, they quickly claimed, within a few minutes, that they couldn't see the thief's face. This seemed suspiciously fast, raising doubts about whether they had even reviewed the footage properly. All my friends at the table confirmed that no customers had walked behind me during the evening. After speaking with the police, who informed me that I should be allowed to view the security footage, I requested to see it. However, the staff refused, citing "privacy reasons." They also acted strangely, hovering around me while I made my police report, as if they were listening to everything I said. Given these circumstances and the staff's evasive behavior, I'm convinced this was an insider job. If they had nothing to hide, they would have been more transparent and cooperative by showing me the footage. I am requesting the return of my belongings, especially my American passport and phone, even if anonymously, or at least the opportunity to see the footage to clear any suspicions. As a newly arrived American graduate student (I just arrived in the UK a few days ago), this was an absolutely horrible experience. While I remained calm and tried to focus on the positives, this situation caused me significant problems. Thankfully, I had friends with me who helped contact my family to cancel my cards, but this was truly awful. I trusted this bar to be safe, but I cannot recommend this place to anyone and strongly urge others to avoid supporting this establishment. read more

Quite randomly bumped into this pub the other day when some mates and I were looking for a place for EPL. The place turned out to be quite a nice place (depending on which team you supported), and it's got a good vibe! You know, it's important there's other people cheering along when you watch some good football and this is one of those pubs. You will definitely have the noise and crowed factor! Nice setting, not a lot of seats, make it a little closey but it's nice. Only complaint is that the TV(s) are all way too small! For a pub this size, come on, put a mid size projector in! New comer to South Kensington and ate and drank at this pub 3xs, 1st 2 experiences were enjoyable, food and drinks as well as staff (bar tender and table service were great. During my 3rd visit the bar tender was as experienced previously was welcoming and helpful. When I made the mistake unknowingly served myself to bar snacks, mixed nuts, a male staff abruptly asked if I paid for it and proceeded to inform me that "it's not self serving and it cost 3 lbs." Even though I apologized and self corrected he continued to be irritated, gave me a sneering look, turned his back and proceeded on his way, not allowing me to correct my error and pay, which I proceeded to with the woman bartender. Needless to say, it put a damper on intent to relax and enjoy an afternoon refreshment. I will return for drinks and food but definitely avoid this particular staff person. read more

I've only got one word of advice for those people who are considering visiting the Zetland Arms: don't. It isn't even worthy of tho photo I've included, but I just want to be sure that you know the place by both name and by sight so that you don't ever have the misfortune of ending up there. If there's one thing I hate, it's terrible service and here has it down to a tremendously fine art. Both times I've attempted to drink there I asked for a glass of Merlot only to be met with an expression akin to as if I was asking for a bottle of 1990 Krug. Both times they were out. One time, after disappearing for fifteen minutes (my friend spotted her on the other side of the bar flirting with a colleague) the barmaid came back with a glass of white, only to lazily explain that her English wasn't very good so would that do instead. The answer, if you were wondering, is no. On my second visit I noticed them collecting dregs of beer into a glass whilst pulling a pint to later top up and serve to the next unsuspecting customer. Surely not the best way to pull a pint love. They seem to enjoy keeping you waiting only to eventually shove your glass on the bar without even glancing up as they swipe your cash. Plus this is the only place whose most expensive wine by the glass (you'd think this would be a safe bet) manages to taste like watered down vinegar and food colouring. Knowing here, perhaps it is. Oh and a few other pointers; the toilets smell like somebody died in there a year ago, the music and T.V is so loud that you can't even hear yourself think, let alone attempt a conversation and the regular clientele are the sort of people your mother told you to avoid on a dark night. I can't say it's the worst place I've ever drunk in, but that's only because I haven't tried every pub in Britain. Never again. read more

Great atmosphere! I had the Fish & Chips Goujons for the first time and fell in love. The fish was very tasty and the mushy pea thing was fried so there was crispy batter on the outside and mushy pea deliciousness on the inside. Oh...Zetland Arms how I miss you! I was studying abroad in London two quarters ago and lucky for me Zetland Arms was only a 2 minute walk from my flat at Manson Place. This was the go to place with my flatmates late at night when we were too lazy to take the tube to go anywhere else. My first time here was during one of my first few days when I first arrived in London. My flatmates and I wanted to experience the pub life and we decided to go here. We got the house wine and a couple of Bulmers which were both great except I personally prefer the the Bulmers. The bartenders were really nice and friendly and loved to run out of the pub to grab a picture or two with our group. Some nights it would be jammed pack and it would just be hard to find a table but that''s a given since it is a pub and everyone loves to go after a day's work. read more

We were a teensy bit intimidated going in here, but the food is well worth it. After a long day of roaming around London, we were looking for some classic pub fare that would end our final day in the city on a delicious note. We meandered our way back to the corner of the pub and after looking around the menu, finally decided on the salmon chili lime burger with a side of fries and mayo. They ask for you to order and pay at the same time up at the bar, so don't be surprised! When our orders finally came out, we were head over heels in love with the non-traditional salmon burgers with a kick of lime. The classic thick cut fries and mayo were outstanding and to end off our meal, we had an amazing sponge cake drenched in warm syrup. Easy to get to, easy to get into and simple pub. Interesting experience. It was not too busy, so that was good. There were two bartenders. Both really pretty girls, being supported by one bar back who resupplied them. It may have been a bar manager, as he once or twice helped them ring things up and they asked him questions every once in a while. Then one of the girls came up behind him near the back and rubbed his shoulders a but and kissed his shoulder, so I guess there may be a little more to that story. Had a couple pints and it was a cool vibe. Everyone seemed OK and on their way to somewhere. Some bar menu as everyone else seems to have, which is too bad. London, and particularly the South Kensington area of London, is absolutely filled with quality pubs and restaurants, and it's unfortunate that one so conveniently located and so well-known is such a disappointment. When initially walking by the Zetland Arms, you might think "Wow, that place is packed, so it must be good" You'd be wrong. While the Zetland Arms does offer ample seating and there is always a lively bunch outside, the service is absolutely dreadful. If you're hungry, forget about it. Their sub-par pub food is provided by an incompetent staff who haven't yet discovered how far a smile can go. Additionally, the drinks are poorly made and getting served can be the most difficult aspect of a visit even if you find yourself face-to-face with a seemingly idle bartender. However, what really got me was the prices. Almost ten pounds for a double drink? Ten pounds? Yes, this is London, and yes, this is Kensington, but for that much cash you should be getting your poundsworth, and I can assure you that that won't be the case at the Zetland Arms. If you're looking for a good night out, look elsewhere. read more

The "not so great" great British pub. I don't usually leave reviews but this was ridiculous. I stopped in on a Saturday hoping for a nice meal and beer, not what I got. About half of their food menu is not available on weekends. This would be fine, except for they don't tell you until they deny your order requests one by one. I ended up eating just chips for dinner. I've had this problem at several Taylor Walker pubs and none of the bartenders seemed to care. It was as if they expected me to assume I wouldn't be able to order the majority of food off the menu. Throw slow service and just average food into the mix, and now I will never return to a Taylor Walker pub. read more
