This buffet was within walking distance of my hotel so i decided to try it. The selection was great. There were 6 tables, a sushi station, and a station for made to order stir fry. The food here was fresh and very tasty....well except the fried rice which was hard as hell and resembled rabbit pellets. They had tons of seafood options which is great for a seafood lover like me. I visited this place during lunch hours and it was fairly busy. The service was friendly and the food was flavorful. The place was clean. Prices were fair. Biggest reason for the two star review was how cold literally everything I ate was. Several foods that I plated to be consumed were well under 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I ended up eating only items that were lower risk for food borne illness like pizza and soups which were hot. Many of the dishes like the General Tsos, Beef and Broccoli, etc were very cold which really made me nervous. Food like that should be held at 135 or above so they don't make people sick. The fact that this was during peak hours--all of these foods should have been way hotter. I would not eat here again simply for this reason. Safety first people! Fix that issue and this would probably be a 4+ start establishment. Flavors were good, prices fair, servers were helpful and friendly. Steam tables were either set way to low or broken. Its only a matter of time before someone eats something they shouldn't at this place. If you are elderly, have young children or are immuno-compromised I would not eat here unless the issue is fixed. read more

This was once my favorite Chinese restaurant, but after eating here after being out of town for a while, there were a couple things that disappointed me to the point where I probably won't return. First, the soft serve ice cream machine has been replaced with a hard ice cream cooler where we scoop our own ice cream. Hard ice cream is good too, but the original soft serve was very high quality and much easier for customers to access. Also, the last time I went they were out of vanilla ice cream, which isn't a big deal except that it just added to the disappointment I felt after returning from a long absence. Second, there was a distinct sewage-like smell coming from an area near the buffet, and I couldn't tell whether it was coming from the food or from a nearby room. Either way it made me less enthusiastic about eating there. However, on the plus side the hot and sour soup is very very good. I have been tempted to go there to make an entire meal out of just the hot and sour soup. Most Chinese restaurants eliminate the red pepper and add sweetening to their hot and sour soup to the point where it should be called "sweet and sour soup". Some that I've tried were literally so sweet that it was like eating a dessert soup. The hot and sour soup in Zhang's has a perfect level of pepper, and while it still has sweetening in it, the sweetening is more modest so the flavor is truly both hot and sour. Update--on a whim I decided to eat here again for the first time since writing this review, and sad to say I was even more disappointed. This time the hot and sour soup--the one shining star left at this restaurant--has fallen prey to declining quality. This soup used to contain a large assortment of Asian vegetables, whereas now it consists mainly of shredded celery that's used as a cheap filler. So now there's definitely no reason for me to eat here anymore (unless I want to check out the conditions). read more

Use to love this place. My wife and I would go for dinner all The time but they never get to have crabs legs. Due to them not puttin them out. When you ask about them thay give the same answer we are doing the best we can. Yet no crab legs. We never complained cause the food is good. We were there the other and at 3pm they up out crabs legs so we went and got crabs legs. We were told that we couldn't eat any more unless we wanted to pay dinner price. We had gotten there at 2:50 to eat and only had one plate. I had asked for the manger and told her of our past experiences and how we should be able to eat at lunch price. Got the same answer we do the best we can and you can stay if you want to pay dinner price. Needless to say we paid and left for our lunch and will never go back. read more

The cup was a plastic shitty like kids cup for hot tea? Not like the cute little chinese tea cups you get it was a bummer! And it made the tea tadte weird so i didnt drink it! Then the food oh boy you start to look around and man oh man it just looks bad and the options are not normal chinese food its weird stuff.. So obviously i go for the staples and go to get my won ton or egg drop soup for my first dish! And holy crap they didnt have either had 2 weird soups and one looked like al broth the other one looked like puke... So disappointment so then got chicken and lo mein and some other basic stuff and it was just dry and bad i didnt eat after the first plate! I sound a little prissy in all this cause i have my staples in what i like at chinese restaurants but i do like to try new stuff but only if it looks appetizing and safe to eat which this stuff did not... I hate that I had to give 1 Star.....On 4/16 at about 11:30 am I visited this restaurant for the first time... my first impression was that it was clean and the food looked delicious I am a plant based, vegetarian eater so I had a little of the sautéed broccoli and carrots vegetable lo mein and vegetables egg foo yung... had 2 serving of each drank water with lemon and paid my bill and left arrived to work at 3pm and began to feel bloated and cramped by 5pm I was experiencing severe cramps and uncontrollable vomiting... i left work feeling like I was not going to make it through the next couple of hours and sought treatment... I was told that I was suffering from FOOD POISONING!!!! I was sick for two days was given anti nausea meds and pain relief meds was fed two unit of IV fluids and told that if the problem persist to return to the ER IMMEDIATELY....I will never again there or anywhere eat at a buffet... Traditional Chinese buffet. Food was good, hot and refreshed often. Good selection of items including Mongolian grill and sushi. Fresh fruit bar and hard packed ice cream along with cakes and cookies. Place was a bit dated. Furniture dinged up but exactly what I expected for a Chinese buffet. They are all the same everywhere. It's not a white tablecloth restaurant it's a buffet. Staff was nice and attentive. Quickly removing plates and refills on the drinks. Excellent food great taste everything's always fresh nothing sits around like other buffets. Wide variety of great tasting Chinese and sea food. I'm especially fond of their; clams mussels oysters calamari shrimp served daily and crab legs on Friday's Saturday and Sunday. I eat there all the time. Love the place. Service is excellent, waitress's on top of everything glasses are always full, napkins replenished, clean plates restored. Very nice atmosphere, restaurant is clean including bathrooms. One of the prettiest and best Chinese budgets in the buffalo area. I've been looking for a great Chinese buffet, and I've found one here at Zhang's. It's only 7.99 for one person for lunch, which If you ask me is a great price, and the food was super good! True and authentic Chinese food. I was surprised to see they even had pizza and self serve ice cream. I 100% recommend this to anyone looking for truly delicious Chinese food, who's hungry, and wants to eat cheap. Went here tonight with family, we had a table of 6. Zhangs by far was the nastiest place we've been to. The food was cold, we didn't get the drinks we ordered they served us with diet sodas. I used to come here when it was all the buzz. Over the years its gotten worse and worse. In one of the booths (which I've heard they've since taken down) used to be some sort of artistic rendition of a cat with fur on it. Not the type of stuff you want to see while eating that type of food. They have days where they offer what I guess you would call crab legs, which are more like crab pinky's because they are so small...and it's like catch it if you can because every time they put a new serving out, there's some guy with 3 plates waiting to take them all. The food isn't all that bad, it could be alot worse. However, my beef with them is that during the transition from lunch to dinner crowd there seems to be a lot of confusion. One time I came in as a lunch guest and was on about my 4th plate, when all of a sudden one of the workers approaches the table and asks if we'd planned to stay for dinner because if so it'd be extra $$$. I felt like before I could even finish getting the words "No" out of my mouth she was lifting our plates off of the table letting us know we had to go. That was completely unprofessional and rude, and not to mention a waste of food (we were eating at the time that she snatched our plates away) the experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Price is decent if you eat seafood. They had raw clams when I went and they also had soft serve ice cream :) I felt that too many items were fried. The mussels were soaked in 2-3inches of butter oil. The salmon was soaked in 4-5 inches of butter oil. If they rid the butter soaking and less fried foods I'd give it a 4 star. Overall the decor was very nice. I was really disappointed that the food tasted as though it was sitting there for some time. When I advised the waiter that the mussels were hard, the hostess came over to my table to explain it was due to the seasoning, instead of apologizing for my being discontent. Worst chinese food i have ever had. Food is seriously horrible here and it is over priced. I really love chinese food, so few people suggested me to go to zhangs. This is why I wanted to explore this place. My husband and I went for a buffet here. Every single item was tasting so sweet. I like my food to be salty and spicy, atleast I dont expect it to taste sweet. I just could not finish a single dish that i had on my plate. Desserts are suppose to be sweet, not the noodles or the lo mein. Man, that is not how you prepare chinese food. It was like wasting time, money and punishment eating food at zhangs. If you are looking for authentic chinese you should try miss hot cafe at sheridan drive. Food is yummy, its spicy and it does not taste sweet at all. Today I went to Zhangs because my sister was craving it and my mom had a 10% off coupon so we all decided to go to lunch. The buffet has a good variety. I usually get fried rice, black pepper chicken, honey chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and lo mein (depending on how hungry i am!). The service is very quick, we're seated right away, promptly asked what we'd like to drink and off we go to help ourselves to some food. I wouldnt say this restaurant has better chinese than the average place around here but what they do have is black pepper chicken, not something I often find. When I first came here about five years ago I really liked it, but recently I'm a bit disappointed in how hard and small the pieces of black pepper chicken are. They're not tender at all, I'm not sure if its because I always get the bottom of the batch or what. Today it seemed to be fresh out of the kitchen and still the chicken was hard and far too crunchy. The honey chicken on the other hand was very tender and I ended up enjoying it much more. They also offer a variety of deserts and fruit if you're still hungry. Also if you do have a coupon you need to present it before sitting down. I give this place three stars simply because the black pepper chicken has been so disappointing I probably won't return anytime soon. read more

I hate to give this place even one star! We arrived here at approx 2:15 and were told that they stopped lunch at 3pm. We figured that was fine since we wouldn't be there that long anyways. It was my husband, myself, my two children, and my cousins daughter. We were celebrating my daughters 6th birthday. They seated us at a table that in my experience going there no one has ever been seated at. It was dirty and broken. The very rude waitress took our drink orders and we proceeded to the buffet. The kids and my husband went up for another helping and when my daughter came back she looked upset. Her cousin asked where she had gotten her watermelon and my daughter said " it was an accident." Puzzled by that I asked my husband what she meant. He explained that although it was 2:45 that more than three quarters of the the buffet had little paper signs that said for dinner guests only. She had gotten the watermelon from a tray bearing such a sign and the hostess (I think) yelled at her. I went up to see what was going on and there was almost nothing there that wasn't designated for dinner guests. My daughter was embarrassed and near tears, not to mention we never saw the waitress again beyond the initial drink order and she and another waitress were standing not far from the table for the untouchables speaking their native tongue while glancing at us and laughing. Needless to say I was beyond annoyed. I proceeded to the counter to pay our bill but told the "hostess" exactly how I felt about the treatment we received and how insane it is to me that they would yell at a small child over a piece of watermelon. The entire time I am trying to remain civil but the person I was speaking to had this smug grin on her face and kept trying to interrupt me. That is when I lost my crap. Even my husband who never complains said we won't be back which is really sad because we used to go there often and enjoyed it. I wont ever return there. read more

The food is not bad, probably one of the better Chinese Buffets in the area when it comes to the taste of the food. I've heard from others that they have some unsanitary practices but I haven't seen anything during my visits there. My primary gripe with this place was that a few years ago they helped themselves to a "tip" on my credit card. Someone backed into my car in the parking lot and I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't fill in the Tip section of the receipt, I later discovered that they took it upon themselves to fill in a $2 tip.
