We took in a 2011 iMac to Santa Fe Computer Works because it was caught in a boot-up loop. Nelson…read morewas great at communicating with us about what he was doing. The motherboard was fried and the computer done-for, but he retrieved the hard drive with all the data and moved that onto a large capacity thumb drive for us. He is very knowledgeable and friendly and we recommend Santa Fe Computer Works heartily.

Several weeks ago, while visiting Santa Fe, my computer failed. Dead as a doornail. Yes, it was an…read moreolder computer with many miles and files, and I used it every single day to run a community radio station back home. I took it to the nerd guys, who all but laughed at me. Although it was a brand they sell, it was "too old" for them to even look at. I asked if there was anyone in Santa Fe who might be able to help, and they assured me they could not recommend anyone. So, I retreated to the parking lot to see if the Google gods could help me find anyone in Santa Fe. As I was getting in my car, one of the nerd guys walked up and said that while he couldn't recommend someone to help me, I might check out the folks at Santa Fe Computer Works as they'd been in business there for many years and he'd "heard good things" about them. That was one more idea than I'd had before, so decided to check them out. They have great Google reviews, and an A+ rating at the Santa Fe BBB. So, on Monday morning, I took my dead computer to see if there was any hope. No appointment, no reservation. Shop looked like what I would hope a working computer repair place would look like... lots of parts, monitors, laptops, etc. They tried a couple of obvious things (power cable, reset, etc.), and said it seemed to be motherboard issue, but they'd like to keep it and work on it. I explained that I was from out of town, only there several days, and was frantic to get back to my radio station monitoring/updating. Nelson said he would see what they could do, within my time constraints, and would keep me apprised as to progress. Well, they were amazing. Turns out that the motherboard was dead, but my hard disk was intact. To replace that motherboard would require more time than I was going to be in Santa Fe as it had to be ordered. It's an expensive part, since there is high-end video on the motherboard. The battery also had a bulge in it, although that was not the critical item nor would it have to be immediately replaced. This computer was new in early 2017, and had been a workhorse, and had definitely seen a full life. However, I was not thrilled with the prospect of replacing it with a new one at this time... what a PITA that is - reinstalling software, trying to make sure all data was taken off the SSD, etc. Nelson gave me a few options... do nothing, order a new motherboard & they could ship my computer to me, or he could get my hard disk working in another laptop. I opted to have the hard drive put in a laptop that he had... not the same brand, but comparable in memory, size, etc. He asked to keep it another day, and would get it working for me at a very reasonable cost. As promised, the replacement laptop was ready for pick up the next afternoon. I've been using it every day to keep the community radio station running, and it has been running like a top! They were meticulous with replacing all of the hardware drivers so I've had zero issues with those. I'm still running Windows 10, and will get a new laptop (but on my timetable when I'm not frantic to get it working. I highly recommend Santa Fe Computer works. They were very honest with their recommendations, great with communicating, and fixed my computer on the timeline stated. I was in a real bind, and they helped me beyond measure. Oh, they also have a couple of really cool pups!

These reviews suck-suck-suck. Which is weird as we just had a very positive experience. My…read moredysfunctional and dying computer was in his ICU for mere hours and we watched the entire process, asking questions but trying not to get in his way. Sure he has an abrupt manner-- he's from NYC. But I'm from NJ, so no big deal. We ended up with an new operating system, complete sweeps for shit, malware, and all the crazy stuff that had been happening stopped. Within 4 hours I went from terrified to ---- ready to hunker down and work with no more issues. Go with a list of what you want done, ask advice and then take it (not debate options) and do not expect the friendly guys at the Apple Store.

Second, while confirming our PC was dead, we asked him to look at our laptop which wasn't finding our internet and it needed a WIN 11 upgrade to the tune of $200. He then texted saying there wasn't enough RAM to run WIN 11 (4GB). Adding ram would be another $100.00. I said no, we don't want the extra GB. He told us to come pick the laptop up, without him resolving the initial problem. We went to pick it up and he shoved the laptop into my Wife's chest, we asked for our laptop case, he threw it at us and then slammed his buinesses door in our face! Such an unprofessional jerk.
