Took in my 2019 iMac for a free diagnosis. I'm a techie and had an idea what was wrong, but they checked other possibilities, backed up the account on the machine to avoid accidental loss, and spent literally hours pursuing the problem, which turned out to be a hardware failure. 2) They gave me a quote for the repair, but it was too high for my budget. In fact this was going to be a spare Mac, since I just got the new Mac Studio, so I don't really need it and wasn't ready to spend that much. I could understand why the price was high: iMacs from that year aren't made to be repaired. I dislike Apple's closed architecture (literally closed in this case), but that's the way they are. 3) I declined the repair and took the iMac home. No charge, no hard feelings.
