My son has been attending Zion since preschool, we are not Lutheran's personally, but we still love the academics and the values and ethics they teach. We do wish their sports programs were a little bit more solid with solid coaches, but our son is happy and so we are happy. He's made great friends, and there are a lot of great families at the school. It is an older school and an older building, but it's actually endearing to me as it reminds me of the schools that I grew up going to. It has a vintage feel . There is some turnover with teachers and students, which can be challenging but overall we are pleased with Zion, especially with Amy Jacobson manning the ship as acting principal. I have 8 of my neighbors all in elementary going to Fairmount and St Paul - 20 and and 25 min away. Zion is 8 min away from us. Should tell you everything why 8 Families 12 kids in total not choosing this school so closed to home. Do you research! They have Zero security, the school gate wide opened most of the mornings before school starts-anyone can walk through. They would lie and tell you that the gardener is also the security, but if you see him cleaning outside the gates he would tell you that security is not one his tasks. School has No Nurse on the premises, No School Nurse Office. Zero feeder program to private school. Don't buy into...Please do your research, the only students going to private Highschools from here are the church staff members kids. This is a very small school with very many "clicks" and "circles" - this speaks volume! You do get a lower rate than any other private school in town, but ANYTHING you are running from a PUBLIC school, you will find here and twice as bad! I do not recommend this school to anyone! Keep looking every extra penny is worth going somewhere else! Covenant, Fairmount, St Paul - all within 20-25 minutes apart from this school and with no traffic doable in 15 minutes! My children went through this school over 20 years ago. Having them attend was one of the best decisions I ever made. I am still involved with the Lutheran church that sponsors this school and know parents that have children that go here. Small class room sizes, Christian character and values are taught and experienced here at a reasonable cost. read more

This is a terrible school. I would know I went to school here and the principal was fired by not reported a rich kid abusing me because his parents were wealthy benefactors of the school. I had asked the principal for help multiple times as a fourth grader and he told me as a Christian I should forgive. Over time, I lost my appetite since this boy kept hurting me every day physicalIy. I also had to go to the nurses office. I was eventually sent to a child psychologist since I lost a lot of weight and told him what happens at school all the time and he fired the principal since he was ironically on the school board! At that point the principal finally talked to the boy and asked him to apologize to me where before he was always asking me to endure the harm especially to my chest and arms. Besides this, the teachers are not good at watching or encouragement of students. read more

My husband and I took great care and time in selecting an elementary school for our child's K-8 education. We instantly feel in love with the staff and teachers both on our initial tour and at the open house we attended. We wanted our child in a smaller classroom environment to ensure more one on one time with the teacher. So far our child's experience has been beyond our expectations. After two years of enrollment, our child is reading at a full grade level ahead of her actual grade. We want the highest level of academic achievement and the teachers here at Zion are more than happy and prepared to deliver! Our child loves this school, her teachers, her friends and she loves to learn. As far as being a parent, you can be involved and be part of your child's experience. My husband and I know the staff, teachers and many of the families that attend this school. We feel like a big family here. My nephew goes to the preschool at Zion and he hasn't had the best experience. He hates going to school because he says the teacher is not nice to him. It's one of the more affordable options when it comes to a preschool but you get what you pay for and it's not quality with Zion. read more

When it came to searching for the perfect school for our Kindergarten aged child, we had some strict criteria. Zion Lutheran School has met and exceeded all of our expectations. Needless to say, Mommy and Daddy are extremely happy. Better yet, our daughter absolutely loves every minute of every school day. She is highly motivated by a strong curriculum and a faith-based learning environment that is second to none. At the end of each school day, when we arrive In the parking lot to pick up our child, she never makes it past the school gate without goodbye hugs from students in her class who are still there waiting for their rides. These kids truly love each other. The students don't compete against each other but, they instead work together as a team to meet a common goal. Our girl is a proud member of a student-body community that is really most akin to being a family. Having moved out here from the midwest, we were concerned about finding a great place for a MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT. This is a time in life when kids are so vulnerable and a cross-country move was a little traumatic for our seventh grader. ZION to the rescue! I attended Zion from 1987-1988 for my Jr. High years. I felt safe there at gained life long friends. Fast forward many years and now my kids go there. They started in Pre-school and currently are in grade school. I love everything about the school. The caring staff, small classes, activities, family activities and sports. Great Christian based education! Small class size and safe environment. Affordable before and after school care as well. My kids have been attending since pre-school and just love it there. The teachers and staff are all wonderful and really get to know each child. They offer practically free music lessons starting in 4th grade with the opportunity to join a jazz band after school also for a nominal fee. My son is in the full time preschool program and he loves it. All the teachers are amazing. Being able to take my son and know that he is in good hands is such a great feeling. I was introduced to Zion through family members that attended preschool-8th grade and they loved it as well. My decision of placing my son in Zion is the best decision my husband and I have made. Not only does he get to have fun, but he gets to learn a lot of things and trust me it shows what he has learned. Zion Lutheran School was not that great! What I heard the most was, "You can't, you can't" Not just you "Can't chew gum in class or talk in class", but you would never reach your childhood dreams. The ONLY goal a male student was to have was to be a Lutheran Pastor or a Lutheran School Teacher. I wanted to be an astronaut and I was thoroughly laughed at by the students and the teachers. Later, I wanted to be a radio announcer, but again I was told I couldn't do that. I was too quiet. The school was controlled by a few families who gave a lot of money to the school. I would have been better of in a public school but I know my parents were under a lot of pressure to keep me there. My mom called the local public school the "Heathen School" After all, that was she was taught. read more

I enrolled my child into kindergarten about 2 months before school started this year. About a month before school began, my family had to relocate. The school refused to refund me the $450 registration fee. Zion incurred no expense or lost no money when I withdrew my child from the roster. I made several requests to the school principal who in turn approached the school board. My request was denied. That was unnecessary, absolutely inappropriate, and flat out greedy behavior on the school's part. I would never recommend a school with such heartless, cold leaders in charge. read more

We could not have had a better school or teachers for our son who attended Zion the past two years(K and 1st). We moved out of the area and still considered keeping him at Zion because of the excellent staff but decided the drive in the morning would be too much. From the principal, Mrs. Kangas to the front office to the teachers (Mrs. Tordil and Mrs. Justice) they were the best. The small class sizes, challenging curriculum, parental involvement and great field trips were only some of the reasons Zion is a 5 Star school in my opinion. My child attended school at Zion Lutheran Preschool and then school from 2002 until 2013. Our family loved the experience we had at Zion School and remain involved in small ways today. Both of my daughters are enrolled in the Pre-School (ECEC) program at Zion Lutheran School in Anaheim, CA. It took a long time for me to search for a quality, faith-based education system for my young daughters that was reasonably priced. After having received such great recommendations from friends, family AND co-workers, I met with the director and was blown away by their spirit to serve the Lord by bringing His words and teaching our children to be Christ followers. The school program is fantastic and the teachers are great. The big plus is also knowing that my children are in a secured and safe facility.
