If only I could give this place a zero.... I just picked up my garments and am sitting in the car as I write this review because I am DISGUSTED by what I just encountered. Let me preface this by stating that I've never had an issue with the actual dry cleaning services. Employees are generally fairly pleasant and my clothes are acceptable. Now, with that, I went to pick up my garments today around 6pm and walked into an All-American sweatshop. The high today was 92 degrees and ZIPS has its employees working in a warehouse with absolutely no air conditioning. The only means of "cooling" were two box fans placed at the front entrance. These fans were doing nothing but circulating the disgusting, hot air throughout the establishment. I have never experienced such a total disregard for employees in such a cruel and brutal way. I questioned if this had been the case all day, and an employee told me that this is how it is everyday- no air conditioning. My 10 minutes there was beyond unbearable so I can only imagine what 10 hours would look like. I will NEVER in this life or the next, return to this excuse of a business. I know that ZIPS can be franchised so whomever owns this location, I hope one day you experience the type of literal hell you have your employees working in. I will definitely be following up with a report to ZIPS corporate following this review. read more

Great concept and an affordable alternative to the norm. However this particular location was kind of weird. One of the employees kept saying "Customer Please!" I guess he was too lazy to say the word NEXT customer please??? More concerning is the fact that they only accept cash. With the amount of traffic they get I am concerned that they are begging to be robbed. I will definitely be looking for another Zips around the neighborhood. read more

My experience at this ZIPS was better than my first experience at the Branch Ave. location. For starters this location takes credit/debit cards. No more going to an ATM before dropping off my clothes. I haven't had any bad experience with my clothes (knock on wood) and bc the price-point is so low, I'm thinking about using ZIPS for all of my work clothes (shirts, slacks, ties, suit). I also love the fact that your clothes will be ready the next day after 5. Just be sure not to arrive at 5pm on a Saturday. You will be waiting in line for about 20 minutes. read more

Zips Dry Cleaners Store at 8805 Annapolis Road Lanham MD 20706 On several occasions, I have requested that my garments be pre-spotted. On each occasion, I have taken great care to ensure that the attendant marked each and every spot I wanted treated with their yellow tape markers. On EVERY ONE of those occasions, my garments were OBVIOUSLY NOT pre-treated or properly cleaned and pressed! My most recent visit this past week was the ABSOLUTE WORST!!! I, once again, took great care to ensure that all of the spots I wanted treated were marked. Not only did my pants NOT get treated, they were NOT even cleaned!!! I had to have them re-done twice, and they STILL were not cleaned!!! I tried calling the store to speak with the manager more than 10 times since there seems to NEVER be one there on duty. Once I finally got thru to the "manager", I was told that my garment would be assigned to the "production manager" and that I would receive a follow-up call from that person on the next business day sometime after 1 pm, because that's what time the "manager" comes to work. Mind you, this store opens at 7 am! Of course, I did not get a follow-up call from the "production manager" and nobody answered the phone on any of the ten attempted phone calls I made to the store. When I went to the store the next day (my 4th visit for this one incident), I arrived at 6:30 pm and still no manager was there on duty. Unbelievably, when I retrieved my pants, they were still not properly cleaned and pressed!!! Needless to say, I will NOT be returning to Zips for my dry cleaning services. The staff there is NOT customer-friendly, there is NO quality control, and there is a management void there! Amazingly, I took the same garment to a competitor dry cleaner, and my garment was PERFECTLY cleaned and pressed THE FIRST TIME!!! I have also encouraged my friends and family to discontinue their patronage of this establishment. I am one PISSED OFF "FORMER CUSTOMER"!!! read more

My experience here has been good so far. I took two coats in to re-sew the back-arm areas and dry-cleaned both. The guy really knew how to sew and did a great job. But I waited to post a review until after I got my nice suit jacket back that had light mildewing due to being stored in an outside shed for a short time. The jacket came back in really nice shape. I've been going to this location for a few years and they have fallen off terribly this year and just got their last piece of business from me. Clothes get ruined, pants come back with holes, hems undone and not cleaned. Shirts don't get cleaned and some come back with stains that weren't there to begin with. I've taken "spot treated" items that to another cleaners and they seem to have no problem getting my items clean. If you value your clothes and don't want then messed up avoid this place at all costs. read more

Consistently bad service. We have had multiple occasions where we took blankets to get dry cleaned, picked them up, and found out later that they weren't ever washed. Original stains were there and all. Today we discovered one of our nicer blankets had come back with tears in the fabric. Those weren't there before Zips Lanham started work on it. We're likely going to have to take our clothes to the more expensive, family-owned dry cleaners around the corner. At least they're reliable and won't ruin our stuff. read more

I don't know why I was expecting a miracle for$1.99 but whatevs. I brought my peacoat here to be cleaned and it looks the same, except maybe ironed. Full of lint balls in the front and back and it doesn't truly look clean. In addition to the waste of my money, the unprofessionalism is on fleek....is that how you say it? They talk about customers in front of customers..."this lady called here starting early this morning" while ringing up another customer. Stay far far away. Just moved to the area and have used Zips in Alexandria so thought why not? What could go wrong? I dropped off 6 shirts before 7am on Monday. Went to pick them up after 5pm the same day. Four of the shirts had been pressed in the strangest ways. Three of them had more wrinkles then when I dropped them off. Two of them had either the button side or the button holes sides pressed in funky ways that looked just careless and sloppy. I left four of the shirts to be redone. Just went to pick them up. The clerk was wearing headphones, planning music from his ipad or whatever during our ENTIRE interaction. He was even singing the lyrics to the song he was listening to while I was asking about why the shirts still had the same issues. That's when I noticed two new stains on one of the shirts they were supposed to have redone. At that point I'd lost all confidence anything resembling decent service would occur. I asked for a refund and left to go to the dry cleaner up the street. This Zips is careless, completely unprofessional, and employs a staff couldn't care less about the service they provide. Update: Received a call from the general manager of this location. She apologized for the experience and informed me that major changes to the operation of this location were coming. Key asking these changes will be the quality of customer service. I'm gonna wait a few months for them to clean house and then will try them again. read more

Can I give this place a ZERO?! I want to start by saying I saw a Zips commercial and wanted to try out this company. This was one of the worst mistakes I have made. First, I dropped off clothing and the original employee counted 22 pieces of clothing April 3, 2013. When I went to pick up my clothes there was a note saying that the tech miscounted and there were only 21 pieces of clothing. Ok, I received a refund for $1.99 (which was not a super big deal). The real problem began when I inspected the clothing in the Zips store. Out of the 22 pieces of clothing, 12 were not cleaned. 3 pieces had a tag stating that they could not be cleaned the rest just were returned in worse shape than when I brought them in. The tech offered to re-clean the garments using the laundry service. I agreed to this because I wanted my clothes cleaned and she said this would probably be able to do the job. I was not happy but trusted that my clothes would be re-cleaned. Needless to say when I picked up the re-laundered clothing on 4/8/13 there were several large spots that looked like whatever spot cleaner product that was used on my garment caused a stain which looked like grease. At this point I asked to speak to the manager and requested a refund because I paid to have my clothes cleaned and they clearly were not. Instead of an apology I was told the "grease" spots was something that I did and nothing would be done about them (I know they were not there when I dropped off my clothes), I was denied a refund (even though I explained that I paid to have my clothes cleaned and they were not), and now some my clothes are ruined beyond repair. At the very least I am requesting a refund for the 12 items of clothes that were not cleaned. If pictures are needed of the 3 "ruined" items are needed I will provide them. The service that I received was completely unsatisfactory. I will never bring my clothes to another Zip and will make sure that as many people as I can contact, will also know not to bring any business to Zips dry cleaning. read more

I have lurked yelp for years but have never felt the need to write a review for any place before, until now. I've been a customer of the College Park ZIPS for years, but went to Lanham for the first time. I won't make that mistake again. It all started last Monday (3/17/14). I normally take the train into work, as it is far from home, but drove in early so that I could drop off some clothes at ZIPS. It was snowing out, but I called at seven and their line said nothing of a closure. Needless to say, they did not update their message machine, and the place was deserted when I got there. Later that day I made the trek back out to ZIPS, giving them a free pass for neglecting to notify me that they were going to open late. Thursday comes, and I head back out there to pick up my fitted sheet and comforter. The comforter came back OK, but they had forgotten entirely to clean my fitted sheet. They quickly refunded me, which I appreciated, but I then asked them to please make sure that they use spot treatment to get the stain of it out, so I do not have to drive rather than take the train for more than three days. They informed me that "they cannot spot treat sheets". I assumed this was not true, but was polite, because at this point I just wanted my sheet back to take to another drycleaner. I go to pick up my sheet and it looks good, I am satisfied and I head home. As I put it on my bed, I realize that it is someone else's bedsheet! There goes my brand new fancy bedsheet... DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT give this place anything that you want returned in good condition. I may give them a shirt or two in the future, but I will NEVER give this mismanaged place anything of real value ever again. read more

I've been going to this location for many years. Never have I received such horrible customer service until a couple months ago where this African guy who was rude and obnoxious while at the same time not completely knowledgeable about how to run the register. Every since then I have a voided this guy at all cost but today I had no other choice but to go to him. The worst thing was eyewitness that he's always extremely rude to women and I think it is a cultural thing where they believed that women are beneath the man. But today was not the day that I was going to let him be disrespectful to me like he was to the woman before me. He refused to give me my dry cleaning because I didn't have a receipt or a key fob which I have never been offered. And wanted me to let him scold me, ridicule me and blatantly disrespect me in front of the entire store. He called himself reporting me to management who gave me my stuff. I explained that I had no intentions of ever coming back field spend money somewhere that management allows their employees to talk to their customers the way he talked to us.. management has Shrugged her shoulders as to say that it didn't matter. Which is fine with me I am just saying that you won't get my money to treat me like garbage. I don't care if the store succeed or fail but I do care about where my money is being spent. 02/09/13 I took my clothes to this location on 2/8/13 and was told the clothes would be ready for pickup the next evening after 5pm. I went to pickup my clothes on Saturday evening after 5pm and was told the clothes were not ready. The cashier informed me that they had a lot of customers and he didn't have an idea of the location of my clothes. I needed one of the items for Monday morning. The cashier seemed nonchalant regarding the situation. The cashier did return my money. I will not be using this establishment again and I have told other people about this experience. read more

Worst experience ever!!!!!!! I am extremely upset , disappointed and surprise with the service and the level of professionalism of your employees and work. My daughter took her north face jacket for dry clean services at the Lanham location . On the first attempt the jacket had a nasty mildew odor . On the second attemp to pick up the jacket , the smell was still present and the jacket was still moist/damp , feathers comping and feather clumping . My daughter expressed her faustration with the manager at which point the manger told her that all she could do was file a claim and wait one month to know if they would reimburse her for her jacket , then the maneger proceeded to tell her he is sorry they did not inform her they don't handle north face brand and that she should have know this might be the result of taking a jacket to a 2.99 place !! I am disgusted with shock !! How dare you blame the customer for having expectation of a business that you advertise ! How dare you ask you customer to wait one month ( on one of the coldest month in record) unable to get her only winter jacket . I expected more from Zips! A "let me see what we can do and how we can resolve this issue as quickly and inconviniatly as possible "... please help me be wrong would have been nice . I don't really write reviews but felt compelled to do so this morning . I went to the zips to drop off my clothes and encountered a young man I think his name is John or Jonathan can't remember (black guy short at the register )he was so nice . I had a whole bag of clothes and he saw me struggling and helped me . Also was having a bad day and just really went above and beyond by encouraging me and just speaking positivity to me , he told me I couldn't leave until he saw a smile on my face. While some may read this an feel he was flirting but I can assure you it was the most genuine heart felt effort made to cheer me up . Doesn't mean much to many but when good service is so rare to find it truly stood out and the first thing I did when I got too work was see how many times I could take a min out of my day to say thank you to this young man who took a minute out of his day to make a HUGE impact in mine !!!! This location wet cleaned a $500 dress that was meant to be dry cleaned and they refused to reconcile this issue. In addition they lost the strings attached to 2 pairs of $300 pants and refused to reconcile or replace any of the items. I have tried several times to escalate this situation to no avail. Do not go here. Management lies and they do not treat customers with respect. Justin (general manager) told me my items were "worthless" and refused to even make an attempt to reconcile. Annetta is rude and lies and does not follow through on anything. She had me wait over a month in attempt to replace the strings on my pants just to turn around and give me strings that were NOT the ones attached to my pants. In addition, when I first tried to get in touch with a general manager she purposely gave me a wrong number and I had to come back just to ask another employee for the GM's number (Justin). Will be escalating this to small claims court. read more

This is one of the worst Zips Franchise in the nation. Your clothes come out more dirty and dingy. Most of the times I have to launder my own business shirts before I take it in. If you care about your clothes, don't use this location! They don't follow simple instructions and they will mess up your clothes. You tell them no crease and they put permanent creases. After trying many dry cleaners in the area both inexpensive and expensive we decided to try the ZIPS in Lanham because it is on our way home from work. We are very satisfied with the quality of work and the customer service. My clothes no longer come home destroyed or lackluster looking. Today I checked in my laundry with Antonio. I have used several Zips. I was excited about the Zips that I stumble across in Lanham MD because they take credit cards. Okay so, I had a shirt cleaned. When I put the shirt on to wear it, I noticed that the shirt had a glue like substance on it that wasn't initially there. I informed Zips by phone and email. They told me to bring the shirt in for a redo. The next day I was contacted, and told that" Megan received my shirt and was able to remove the stain and my shirt was ready for pick up". Upon picking up my shirt not only was the original stain there but there was a new stain exactly like the first. I informed the cashier. He stated that I should take my shirt so it wouldn't be further damaged and that he could offer me a store credit, I responded "Um... I don't think so" I paid $70 for that shirt, I would like the stains removed". Zips is refusing to take responsibility for damaging my shirt. They still have the shirt; I declined to pick it up, because they still haven't removed the stains. I informed Mrs. Downs that I am purchasing another shirt and would like for Zips to reimburse me. She replied "Good afternoon Ms. Johnson, The marks on your shirt still remain. I encourage you to come pick up your shirt and read the report. I have spoken with the owner and based on the findings in the report, ZIPS is not responsible for those marks and therefore we will not be paying you for your shirt or any that you purchase in the future. I have contacted the media and submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This is a valuable lesson {literally} because I had to purchase another shirt {cost $78.95}. I could have used that money and will be from now on at a cleaners that will stand by their work. read more

I went to Zips at about 8 this morning. There were 2 cashiers working the registers and a long line of people they had to get through. One of the employees, a young woman by the name of Anetta, was working so hard. She was successfully working 2 registers. Such hard work, coupled with such a pleasant nature, deserves recognition. I have been patronizing this Zips for at least four years. I've had no issues with this cleaners and I am super particular. In fact, I have referred several family members and friends. The customer service has been great. Jonathan Wilson is usually there when I drop my clothes off on Mondays. He's very patient with me as I go every two weeks and have lots of clothes. NEVER AGAIN. I had the worst experience recently. Brought in several items, when it was ready for pick up, I noticed 5 of 8 weren't even cleaned. In fact, my dress pants had NEW white sticky residue on them. The cashier offered to redo the items free of charge and I went through each item and he carefully marked areas with tape that needed special attention. When I came to retrieve these 5 items a few days later, the dress pants were FADED! I mean FADED! These are brand new dress pants! They literally still had tags on them. One of the blouses were torn in the middle. And the other 3 items still were dirty in the areas that were marked for special attention. I don't get it. Such a sloppy job. What business does that when they make a mistake the first time? The assistant manager took the 2 damaged items and said he would give them to the manager, who seems to never be there (asked for her the initial time I intended to pick my items up) and she would contact me. He also said I'd have to come in again to complete claim forms to be reimbursed for my items. These items, he reassured me would be ready in a week or two. Lol. He said it would take another week for the actual reimbursement. Then I received a voicemail from the manager claiming she gave the blouse to their repair team and the hole has been sewed and fixed. She also claimed to be working on bringing the color back to my dress pants. I have NEVER ever experienced such ridiculous customer service in my life. You don't damage a customer's property, claim you'll replace what was clearly ZIPS doing (considering the first employee I worked with who offered the secondary attempt at dry cleaning, fully and thoroughly examined each item WITH me), and then proceed to try to patch up the issues on your own. The employee even offered to re-wash the other 3 items, and I declined. This franchisee just LOST a customer and everyone I would've recommended this location to. Oh, and they gained a formal complaint to the Attorney General's office. Bad business. read more

Today I had the experience of working with Mr. Jonathan Wilson, a Lanham, MD employee. I frantically called Mr. Wilson first thing this am because I was unsure if I had correctly identified my formal dress as dry clean only when I dropped my dress off yesterday afternoon. Mr. Wilson was very professional and took my number down, phoned his manager to determine how to locate the dress to ensure it was not going to be "wet" cleaned as the dress has jewels on it and wet cleaning the dress may loosen the jewels. Mr. Wilson took the time to locate the dress, correctly identified what the dress looked like to me over the phone and assured me that my dress had been cleaned and the jewels on the dress had not been affected. Mr. Wilson was very courteous and is an asset to this company and I would like to publicly thank him for assistance today. He deserves the 5 stars. read more

I've been bring my clothes to this location for about 5months. Well my last trip was horrible! I dropped a bunch of my clothes off on a Tuesday and my sister picked up my cleaners up Saturday afternoon. As Saturday night proceeded and I'm getting ready for a night out on the town, I started pulling my clothes out of the bag and I realize that my blouse was still wrinkle and that the majority of my items were poorly ironed. Something told me to smell my clothes and when I did, I was beyond UPSET! They DID NOT CLEAN ANY OF MY ITEMS! Then on top of that they were PRESSED DIRTY! My clothes smelled exactly the way I sent them in....DIRTY! I also had deordant marks on some of my black blouses. My night was ruined, I couldn't go out because I didn't have anything to wear thanks to this lazy stealing cleaners. I contacted the manger via phone and he even tried to convince me that my clothes were cleaned properly. He went as far as trying to insult me by proceeding to tell the process of dry cleaning. Not in all my years of taking my clothes to the cleaners did they return smelling like dirty laundry. Eventually he asked me could I bring my items back to be cleaned again and I told him absolutely not and that I wanted my money back. He finally told me that I could come in and get my money back. i frequently this zips quite often, they do a decent job, you have to check ur stuff to make sure all items are pressed, they got over on me a couple of times with my summer linen items. overall for the price, and an occassional item overlooked, i would say its worth the price. read more
