As a music teacher myself I've…read morehad the chance to visit both the Moraga location here as well as the SF location, and both are more than up to snuff when it comes to what they bring to their students, teachers, and community. The location is beautiful and the space is just lovely, and I was told it'd be opening up even more room to teach more students in just a month or so! The vibe is serene (and there's lots of good parking!), and the teachers are all clearly as excited as their students to bring their love of music and education to the table ever since this place opened in January. I believe in such an attitude, and feel it's one of the paramount traits to have to help spur both children and adults alike into finding their own love of music and learning within themselves. Having been a music teacher myself for the past 15+/- years, it put a huge smile on my face to also learn that this is currently the only music school in Moraga; to think, they're bringing more of this joy that I share to more places out there that could definitely benefit from it! Absolutely wonderful. There is such variety in what one could learn here (from classical to rock) and I see all of the best reasons to give them a go, especially that the teachers and staff are so ready to make their place here in the Moraga area. The teachers are highly qualified and credentialed and the attention to the students is excellent. They really care about quality of teaching and focus on the individual needs of each student. She evaluates every student and assigns a teacher according to their level and schedule. She gives good advice and recommendations. My son started with Ms. Tetyana who is very patient with little kids and she is old school type of teacher focusing on fundamentals which is very important building my son's basic techniques. After a year, my son was changed to Ms. Eleanor who is the best teacher ever!! She teaches with love and passion. She is very dedicated to teaching, hardworking, and has many successful students who won all kinds of rewards. After couple years, my son progressed very well under her coaching and started to win 1st and 2nd place in numerous competitions. Instrumental Music for Children has been providing our kids with piano lessons for 3 years. At…read morefirst, they provided in-school lessons at the elementary school as an after-school program. But we have continued with them for in-home piano lessons over the summers, and (due to scheduling conflicts) during the school year last year. Bottom line, this kind of school is all about the teachers. We have had two piano teachers so far, and both of them have been absolutely top notch! The first one was a jazz pianist in her spare time. She was very sweet to the kids, and they still remember her and say hi when they see her. But due to scheduling conflicts, she no longer does lessons in our neighborhood. Their second teacher is a multi-instrumentalist, he is a lot younger and plays in a rock band on the side. I think this has had a lot of benefits for our kids. My son especially needs to see the "fun" side of playing music, and this teacher is very good at that. At the end of each lesson, he lets my son bang away at the keys, or improvise, or learn songs that are more fun to play. I've also noticed he is very good at helping the kids return their focus to the lesson if it starts to wander, as it is likely to do with kids their age. Every year they hold an end of the year recital for the kids to strut their stuff and the parents to get some video. It's not Carnegie Hall, but it is very sweet and fun experience for everyone. Administratively, they have been great too. They have worked to make sure our kids could stay with the same teacher as much as possible. Their billing has always been very easy and very fair.
