As a zoo enthusiast, I once trained as a zookeeper at the Los Angeles Zoo. And very much a supporter of animal conservation in zoos. This London Zoo visit was extremely high on my list of London destinations. Founded in 1828 as the world's first scientific zoo, it didn't open to the public until 1847. Located in Regent's Park on 36 acres, the current zoo has one of the largest zoological collections in The United Kingdom. The London Zoo was the first to open a Reptile House, Public Aquarium, Insect House, and a Children's Zoo. It's Giraffe House is said to be the world's oldest zoo building still in use today (1837). See the video below. A good friend of mine and an expert on giraffe species brought that bit of information to my attention. Our visit to the zoo lasted just under 3 hours, and we covered the 36 acres quite comfortably. Not considered large by modern zoo standards, the habitats are spacious and in keeping up with current zoo design. Check out their website for admission fees and hours.

This zoo is excellent. They really let you get up close and personal to the animals without an extra fee. There was a butterfly room, spider room, monkey room, and probably more I can't remember. My kids had a blast. Such a fun time. Plus they had baby gorillas.

I've been to the London Zoo 3 times. My most recent trip was at the end of May 2023. Each time, I've spent 5 hours there. They have some old exhibits like the bird house which looks like from 100 years ago to new exhibits like the lion area, complete with an Indian village in that section or the coral reef building. There's a sign where the Harry Potter (movie #1) had the snake escape. There's a sign where Winnie the Pooh originated. The children's zoo is well-staffed. I saw the whole place and covered 5 miles in doing so. You can certainly do much less - there are both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Wide variety of species from all over the world.

This place was great. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go but I bought tickets ahead of time and was so glad I went. FYI: It's also cheaper buying tickets ahead of time online. The zoo was MUCH larger than I thought it would be. I've been a lot of zoos in America and this is the first international zoo I've been to. This zoo has A LOT of differences than the average American zoo but all of the differences are for the better. Luckily I went on non-busy day which was awesome for me. The biggest highlight for me was the Bugs exhibit room and the Monkey room because, unlike America, you can really get up close and personal with these bugs AND monkeys. They do bite and yes, they have tons of signs about this as well as a guard but this is something you would NEVER see in America and this was one of the best experiences. I was also impressed that the exhibits for the large animals offer plenty of room to roam. I highly highly highly recommend this zoo if you are in the area. In my opinion, it's well worth the money.

We make it a point to go and support the local zoo whenever we travel and this zoo was spectacular! It was clean and easy to get around and the animals seemed very well taken care of. Bonus points for the fact that I got to check it off my Harry Potter bucket list!

My partner and I had a wonderful day at London Zoo. We booked in advance online, which was easy. We managed to see all of the animals as the zoo layout was easy to navigate and there was plenty of signposts. My partner and I were also fortunate enough to take part in the penguin experience. Sonia led the session brilliantly and was very informative. We were able to stroke some of the more confident penguins and learn about all the different personalities. It was extremely worth it. Do not rush your visit and take your time to truly understand the great conservation work this zoo is doing. Seeing a lot of these animals is a blessing considering so many face a degree of extinction. I think it's also important to understand that at times there is general maintenance and improvements to the zoo and therefore some exhibits are not always available. Our visit was off-peak (weekday), meaning there was a comfortable amount of people around. The cafe was well stocked with a variety of tasty food; the coffees available were pretty good (take your own takeaway cup). The toilet areas were kept very clean.

Nice, older zoo located very close to central London. Most zoos and aquariums are pretty pricey (their operating costs must be astronomical) and this one is no different. If you're visiting London and other sites you may want to check out the London Pass to save some money (wish we did). Although it is pricey you do get a nice sized zoo and small aquarium with well kept exhibits. Staff was excellent with all of the kids in the children's area here. We went on a rainy day and the zoo wasn't overly crowded. They sell rain ponchos by the gate for 4£. We were also able to easily find metered street parking right in front. If you are short on time and depending on public transit in central London this zoo is worth a visit. If you have a car and a little more time there is another excellent zoo (much more interactive) about an hour east of this zoo.

Such a fantastic zoo! So fun , educational and well run. They have so many exhibits with unique animals but all the great classics too. I love the tiger cubs and colobus monkeys! The new Coral reef is excellent. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable.

I visited the London Zoo on a weekday morning in October. Getting here on the tube was a bit of a haul, but it paid off as the zoo was almost empty. There were a few school groups, but since the zoo is a decent size, I didn't really run into them, so it was like I had the place to myself. There are a decent amount of animals to see at the zoo, however, many of them were not out in their habitats. I'm not sure if this was because it was a bit chilly outside, if they were just shy, or if they don't come out until late afternoon. I arrived at the zoo around 10:30 and stayed until 2:00, so it's a great day out if you love animals. Tickets, like many places in London, are expensive. You can save a little bit of money by ordering tickets online the day before, or by using your London Pass. The cafe served a decent lunch, and the price was on par with other museum cafes in the city. The gift shop was very kid-centric (lots of stuffed animals, kid's clothes, candy, and cheap toys), which was a little bit disappointing for me as I enjoy the unique gifts and souvenirs I can usually find in London museums. Overall, it's a nice stop if you or your kids love animals. It's easy to spend the better part of the day here.

I like visiting zoo's. When done right, they are great places to observe and learn about different animals. Also, a visit allows you to watch the locals and visitors in a relaxed atmosphere. Like many sites in London, there is a small cost to enter the zoo. The zoo itself is nice but definitely it is showing its age. Many parts have been upgraded but their is only so much that can be accomplished within the size of the park. Overall, it is a good zoo for a visit to observe animals, visitors, and walk around. Their is plenty of open space to sit and relax if it gets to warm. Food options are good, average on best compared to other zoos. I would recommend eating else where and just get a snack here.

I LOVE going to zoos in other countries and the London zoo was totally worth it. If you buy tickets online ahead for time you save something like 10%, which is awesome!!! It's quite large, has a cool monkey part where you are inside with the monkeys. The lion setup is intricate and detailed and large. They have the same kind of walk in habitat for the Lemurs too! There are Pygmy hippos and the penguin habitat is the best I've ever seen. I even got a video of one just swimming and jumping all over the place. The wild dog habitat is very large and you can get very close with some low windows, very cool. When we went there were hundreds of schools kids and it was still fun! There's an aquarium, tigers, bats, reptiles... fun for the whole family. We didn't eat there, but there's food options too for sure. I'm so happy we went!

    Our lodge for the overnight

We actually spent two days at the zoo because we booked a night at their Gir Lion Lodges which are 9 small lodges with a bedroom and bathroom. We checked into our room around 4pm and then meet for a glass of prosecco around 6pm and did our first tour. We got to feed some of the animals including Pygmy hippos and warthogs. Then we had a great dinner buffet with a chicken dish and a nice vegetarian option. They also gave my kids a kid friendly meal which they ordered ahead. One gobbled chicken fingers (which were great) and the other had spaghetti. There was wine and beer for purchase. After dinner, we saw and feed a few nocturnal animals. In the morning, after breakfast were my favorite tours including a visit to the kitchen where they prepare animal meals. Staying at the lodge was cool to do once but I also recommend the zoo in general. They have "walk throughs" which I think are pretty unique because you walk through cages with the animals (which you obviously can't touch). We did "walk throughs" with huge spiders overhead, and another where spider monkeys sauntered by and another where sloths climbed by and another with friendly lemurs. It was pretty awesome and a highlight of our London trip for my 6 year olds.

It isn't very big, it's easy to walk, and there are plenty of things for toddlers and older kids to do. Animal feedings happen daily, and we got to watch the otters get fed at 11:00 a.m. Donkeys and ponies can be fed and petted, so that was cool to see. They've got an old fire truck, tractor, and helicopter for children to climb into. My son was obsessed! There are stalls to have birthday parties and I. Prices one stall with chalkboard walls so children can write with chalk. There are a few arcade like games: boats, a water gun competition, etc. There were stalls/carts with signs that said Wall's ice cream and other food items, but I didn't see any open. I think parents should plan to bring their own snacks and meals just in case those carts, etc. aren't open. Great petting zoo/park. Bring your children here!

Every exhibit has multiple viewpoints here. There were plenty of opportunities to easily see all the animals here. The enclosures were extremely well kept and I think all had an indoor and outdoor area for the animals. There are multiple play areas throughout for kids here too. My kids also enjoyed the animatronic dinosaurs here (very cute). Food here was reasonably priced but we ate outside the park. Parking was free. They offer a lot of different animal interactions here. The prices for all were pretty high but for a special gift I'm sure they are totally worth it. You can also buy carrots to feed the animals in the petting zoo.

There were a few extras while you were there so take additional money but to be expected at these places! They also had a lots of showing through out the day and I got to stroke a snake :). The park had a good layout where you can easily walk around and find where you are going plus you get a handy map! There have an indoor soft play at the entrance which is good and bad! Means the kids want to go these straight away instead of seeing the animals and you don't pass on the way out! The soft play was great for all ages and served your average drinks and food - one thing I will say which was disappointing was they charged me for a bit of milk for my baby! I always pay my way but this is the first place that have ever charged me for milk! Worth a visit and tickets are not expensive - look out for groupon deals!
