Our 40-year old decks were in need either of replacement or significant maintenance, so having seen…read morean ad in a local publication, in the spring of 2020 we contacted American Deck Builders (ADB) and several other contractors, sending photos and measurements with a request for quotes. ADB responded within two days with a well-defined replacement project description and cost with options for pressure treated wood or Trex synthetic material. (The other contractors either did not bid or in one case, provided a cost number with absolutely no description of the work to be done.) We responded to ADB that we were interested in taking the next step and co-owner Brendon Lawrence subsequently came to examine the project and brought material and color samples. We selected Trex, chose color and affirmed our desire to proceed. Unfortunately, the pandemic shutdowns were initiated and work could not progress until spring 2021. Brendon and co-owner/project supervisor Brendan (last name??) came again to finalize the project and offered a couple of great suggestions on some details. ADB obtained the building permit and began work that same day with a crew of five. Teardown of the three existing decks took less than a day. Although the weather was initially uncooperative, they worked through cold and snow--but not rain. Starting at 7am each day, the experienced crew worked smoothly and cooperatively to accomplish their tasks. Each of the eight nights, they picked up and stored all materials, scrap and tools, leaving the grounds as neat as possible while the project was underway. They did an amazing job, displaying terrific attention to detail and workmanship. When the job was completed after nine days, we could not have been more pleased with the results. American Deck Builders gets five stars from us.

My parents paid in full mid May 2023 (BIG MISTAKE). It is January 6, 2024 the work is still incomplete with numerous contract violations and continued new false commitments. We have received estimates from 3 other companies to finish the incomplete work from the original contract which totals 1/3 of the original cost. The work performed and state the home was left was not up to code and required my parents to come out to pocket to fix leaks and electrical wires just hanging out of the walls. We were promised reimbursement that we continue to receive excuses as to why that hasn't happened. We have been more than patient however unfortunately this company is unprofessional, has poor workmanship and very unreliable. The subcontractor he currently uses had his BBB revoked. We have photos, paperwork, receipts, text conversations that support more than disclosed above. I HIGHLY recommend staying as far away from this company as possible.

Needing some remodeling work and never had to use a contractor in the Ithaca area, I started asking for a good contractor. I received Chris Eder as reference to use. From our first phone call, he was very professional. Chris was very punctual for our first meeting and after looking at the job that I wanted him to do, he gave me a written email estimate later that evening. Every day for work he was on time, and every day when he was done working, he always cleaned up debris or mess that he had made as if he had not even been there. I am very pleased. I have had Chris do several different jobs for me on my house and rental and he has never failed me. He has remodeled three bathrooms, trim work around floor and windows, carpet/vinyl flooring installation, subflooring, installed electric baseboard heating, ceiling lights, minor electrical work and building storage shelves in my garage for me. Chris is always accommodating around my work schedule when he does a job for me. He has never started a job and then left me hanging days before returning. Every time I have asked him to do a job on whatever days I am available Chris is always there on time, always professional, very reasonable and works harder than a beaver with dull teeth. I already have plans to use him in the future for my home and rental property.

Sutryk & Sons, Inc. was not cooperative when problems were identified, lied to our face, and do not properly prep and install vinyl siding. They'll take your money and leave you with a cob job that will need to be fixed by another contractor. They have refused to fix our concerns and are no longer answering emails. We have already had water leak under a window after this installation due to their poor work processes and failure to flash the exterior. I would give zero stars if possible. Do not use this contractor for any work on your home!
