I have been stressing out over my 2018 taxes way before 2018 was even over. LOL.. It was my first…read moreyear of electing as an S-Corp. Majority of my income was coming in under my business with no taxes being deducted so I knew I had to pay. I was pretty sure i was going to owe like 10k :( .. I chose OG bc of the great reviews (thanks yelp!) Before going in I was actually nervous and a bit ashamed bc as an adult I have know idea about taxes yet I decided to elect as an S-Corp lol. Then I finally came in & was seen by Eli. Here are some highlights of my experience: Eli is very knowledgable and is able to explain everything easily so that people like me who feel like taxes are a foreign language can understand. I came in assuming I was going to owe so much bc I had no idea what I was doing or how taxes even worked.. but Eli answered all of my questions with patience even though I know I was probably asking the same question over & over lol. Now for 2019 I will not be stressed! Eli also shed some light on things I had no idea about like how putting money in an IRA can really help to save on how much I owe in taxes, and how I need to go ahead & pay estimated taxes twice a year, and other business related matters that as business owner i needed to know & did NOT beforehand. Before your appointment they give you this great "tax planner".. it pretty much lists out everything that you can & should be writing off on your taxes & allows you to put in the totals. This was so helpful.. it really helps you organize everything. I called with a question & was quickly directed to Eli which was nice bc I thought I was going to have to email or wait for a call back, etc.. Jane at the front desk is also very helpful, polite & accommodating. Overall, I highly recommend. Especially if you have no idea what you're doing bc I know I cant be the only one. I left feeling so much better & at ease after it was all over.

Besides being extremely smart they are very personable with a focus on how to help the clients. Their office is recognized year in and year out as being one of the best in the country. As someone who works with advisors throughout the country and has a very visible firm, I highly recommend L.J. Altfest for their advice, integrity, and ability to translate complicated financial planning/investments into an understandable plan of action.

Main owner, Lew, lost temper when question as to why did he things the way he did them. That is Lew.(I don't know what a PHD in Finance from City College gets ya but not an ego that big) He does not like being questions about his decisions. If you go with this outfit, do NOT, sign over full decision making rights to this financial firm. 4. Unsuitable investments and risk for a retirement person age 5. Promises of retirement planning, puts it off, then asks for big money. There is no way to properly invest without doing cash flow analysis or coordinating with other investments 6. Alleging that he takes a cookie cut approach and does not tailor things to the risk levels and ages of his clients or wealth level 7. Neglects small clients 8. They changed their company's name from LJ Altfest. Lew and Karen are husband and wife. They have various underlyings their too. Their son worked their for a while. I hope he headed for greener pastures. On the whole, I would say stay away. Do not sign his arbitration agreement it binds you to expensive arbitration. Make sure he writes out what he is going to do for how much money, who bears the cost of trading etc. I would even venture to say you are better off with Fidelity so long as they came in at less than 1%. This guy was no better than a petty broker and had a temperament of one to boot. This is one person's opinion based on a factual client interaction I am sure Vanguard, Blackrock, Bernstein, UBS would be fine too.

Unfortunately some of my most elderly patients find themselves in financial distress and under a burden of debt , either from the loss of a loved one or illness. Point being, Wow!!!, these guys are very impressive. I ran into these guys by pure luck, while taking a break at work. They knew of my military background and were just genuinely interested and appreciative of my military service, and one conversation led to the next. I told them of my financial struggles, and how tired I was of looking for help and just got the run-a-round and/or that feeling that there were a lot of strings attached with every company (even those that supposedly focus on "helping" Veterans). They told me that they "might" be able to help. So never promised me anything, took a look at my debts, told me of every single part of their program so I could see if it would be a good fit for me. There was no pitching or selling, they told me all of the pro's and con's of the program. Well longer story short, I went from paying over 3K a month for debts that were going to take me at minimum a little over 12 years to pay off, to now paying via their program a little less than $700 a month in a 46 month no interest locked-in rate program. I'm not a math genius, but paying all of my debt while paying literally thousands less in A LOT less time (like literally cutting off about a decade of payments) is well worth not being able to open up any new line of credit accounts throughout the program. Yep, that's the negative part. Not being able to get more credit cards or lines of credit, literally the same thing(s) that got me into all of this debt to begin with. Wait, now that I think about it, even that isn't even a "con" when considering the pro's and con's. I don't do many reviews, but definitely had to give these guys a "shout-out". Thank you for everything. I hope others that were in my initial situation can also see how genuine and how if they (those needing the help) want to, they (JXD) can help them. If they (those needing the help) are serious about getting out of debt these guys can truly help. JXD Financial are DEFINITELY, Marine approved!!!
