This restaurant has been operating since the year 1749 and is located on the main street of Heidelberg. I particularly loved the beer garden in the back of the restaurant, old but very classy. The people are very friendly and they can speak English, which is always a plus. The food portion is smaller compared to many other German restaurants but it was very well cooked. A little on the touristy side but still pretty outside in the biergarten. I got the dumpling plate with potato salad and regular salad and my husband got some pickled meat with fries. Well I am back to Beautiful Germany and my friends dad knows the ins and outs of Heidelberg. This place is 250+ years old in the new part of town. Anything older than 300 years old is in the old part of town. We got a tour of the whole place and was told downs stairs is a massive brewery which is no longer open to the public. SHAME!! Started with a Beer, I normally never drink beer, but when in Germany I do!!! It's simply the best. Even Dawife had one which was alcohol free. My meal was Pig Knuckles, never had this before up until yesterday and today. It's great!!! Wife had the schnitzel with Mushroom and I had a bit and it was finger licking good. KFC is not!!! Service was excellent esp. the ambiance of the place. We were 3 and it cost a whole 44 euro!!! WTF?? You sure cannot eat like that back home. many photos to follow. read more

This is a great restaurant in a very handy location, right on the main shopping street. Our waiter was extremely personable, and was patient enough to allow me to practice my German with him. Beautiful place in a wonderful city to have a drink and maybe eat something. The pub has two main areas: one inside and one outside, I stayed outside in a nice patio but passing by I was astonished by the beauty of the interior and all the small rooms also great for private parties. Beer is a must and of course good, the food is the usual German food (like it or not), so they do not stand up by themselves but for sure they are good and can match any comparison with another average pub. read more

We waited for more than hour to get the food which are terrible. Steak was over cooked and dry, sauerkraut was too salty, pork was dry as well. Flies are everywhere which disrupting our meal badly. Servers were hanging around and did nothing. read more

We came here tonight with our group (adventures by Disney). We had a WUNDERBAR dinner. We enjoyed a delicious salad with goat cheese and ham. It was really excellent. Even my husband who doesn't like salad loved it. He had a sausage type dish with potatoes and I had chicken and croquettes. For dessert we both enjoyed something we had not had before. It was kind of like cheesecake but orange flavor with whipped cream and a sweet cream drizzle. Very nice. We had a private room with a special performance. The room was lovely. How can you go wrong at a place when the first thing you hear is a waiter yelling "Pig Knuckle!" when delivering food to another table? This place has a front patio, if you want to watch tourists, large inside dining room if you like the indoors and a big beer garden in the back. I sat in the beer garden and it was great. The menu is huge with lots to choose from. I had the pork medallions with spätzle and it was excellent. Lots of beers to choose from as well. It's on the tourist strand but don't let that discourage you. The food was great, staff was quick and attentive, and well worth the cost. Good German food that's not pizza or a kebab. read more

My conclusion: This restaurant is focused on tourists that just show up once and never come back. We visited this restaurant on Saturday, late evening. People were friendly. We ordered an appetizer, but did not get it before the main dish. The taste of the typical German dishes was disappointing. The food was overcooked. The kids, my wife and I, we did not like it. It is not worth the money we spend. If you want to have dinner in Heidelberg, please do not choose this place. There are way better restaurants in this beautiful city. read more

When I came out, I was escorted out via the hotel, as if the staff assumed I was there to only use the facilities. Obviously, I took my business elsewhere.
