It looked like the reviews were good from both tourists and locals alike, so I figured we should check it out. My German half-brother-in-law and I both ordered the Schnitzel, and he actually said it was very well done and one of the best ones he's ever had, which I think says a lot!! My husband got the pork knuckle which was really just way too much food, but he enjoyed it thoroughly. The servers were very kind and helpful, and although we sat outside because the weather was nice and there was no air-conditioning indoors, I got to walk through the restaurant to access the salad bar and was surprised to see how nicely decorated it was inside. I definitely considered coming back for a second day in a row and definitely would have if we had stayed for longer!

There were five of us and we all got something different. We shared among the group and there were no disappointments. Great schnitzel, delicious currywurst, a very interesting and yummy German meatloaf and the best spaetzl I've ever had. We enjoyed it enough we went back the next night. Our waitresses were great! My tasty German soda did have a hidden message for me.

One memory I have that redeems the whole evening is there is a large barrel of Jagermeister with a spout that I noticed while exiting the restaurant. We came here for the summer special "Feinschmecker" menu series - those were really good value given the food quality. That being said, it was good, but I felt the quality didn't quite live up to their regular prices. Ok, location does play a role here. It was very chill and laid back, but a well put together atmosphere all the same. The staff was attentive, the food elevated traditional German cuisine, and reasonable prices (as compared to LA). The asparagus soup was exceptional. The flavors were both lite and decadent. I would come back for that soup, for sure. I also had the schnitzel (chicken) with the potatoes with green onions and bacon, as well as the cucumber dill salad. Both of these were excellent accompaniment to the schnitzel. The potatoes were not hot when they arrived, I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. The cucumber salad partnered well with the fried schnitzel, balancing the heaviness. The berry compote that sat on the table, provided a slightly sweet and sour edge to the breaded chicken. I tried the pepper corn sauce also. I usually do not enjoy sweet with my savory, but the berry compote was just tart enough to be worth the risk.

And in case you are not looking for typical austrian flourfood (mehlspeisen), the hearty snacks have my recommendation as well. "Weisswurst und Brezn" with sweet mustard, as well as beef meatballs with salad for less than 7 euro in that kind of athmosphere, marvelous.
