The menu contained some refreshingly light and healthy alternatives to the wonderful Yucatecan cuisine which abounds here: we each had a fantastic chicken dish with hummus and a delicious salad accompanied by some exceptional baba ganouj (which I normally dislike). The ambiance was bright and airy, in the street level of a famous building, the casa Catherwood. The chef owner was helpful and charming and we felt like we had stepped into a pleasant oasis. Music starts at 8:30 (it used to start at 8:00, and I wish it still did or at 7:30) -- no cover. (That's not to say that on the other nights you won't hear good music; over the years there have been many fine trova singers.) All in the atrium of an historic building: in our opinion, a special if not unique place in Merida.

La Piazzetta Hotel Merida We booked this hotel last minute…read moreand what was a quick stay stay in Merida turned into one of my favorite hotels of all time. I cannot over state how kind and genuine the staff here is. We were greeted with kindness and enthusiasm after a long drive, given homemade refreshments and assisted in unloading our luggage. It was late but everyone made us feel instantly at home and comfortable. After walking around town from the hotels perfect location we headed to bed. Unfortunately we had an early flight, so we woke up at 04:00 and the night staff had prepared for us a beautiful breakfast, light because it was early but he said he didn't want us to go hungry to the airport. As we departed the staff said goodbye and that anytime we are in Merida consider this place our home. I have never experienced such exceptional service and kindness as we did here. Gracias mi amigos
