This small gem is tucked in with more notable and recognizable restaurants, but from my point of view, not better! The expansive menu invites its guest to explore and try something new. Our first visit was months ago and now that we are back in Merida we made Rosa Sur 32 a priority to visit. I won't begin to explain the menu, it is too diverse. But trust my word, whatever you order will be well worth the visit. Great service and comfort await you!

Though inside seating is limited they have a number of tables outside so on a cool night its beautiful. We ordered light, getting only the house salad of the day and fish tacos. We were pleasantly surprised when they brought us complimentary bread with a chilled zuchinni garlic puree, think like a thick zuchinni gazpacho but it actually tastes good. Very refreshing on a warm evening. The house salad was anything but mundane, coming with mixed greens, cubed cucumber, cubed apple, cubed celery, and sliced kiwi. It was fantastic and the portion was generous. We also ordered fish tacos and these come as a pair. The breading was light and crispy, slightly oily in a good way, and served piping hot! Also just a pleasure to eat here! If we were to move here, we will be coming back for sure! Happy eating adventures ahead to you and thanks for reading! -John Sito

Ordered a mango and strawberry daiquiri and they were not blended. Rim was something strange. Not salt, sugar nor tajin. Service was very slow. The guy was nice but would rather chat with his coworkers. Ordered an avocado pizza, and it tasted like something from the school cafeteria. Chaya crepes were soggy, drowned in sauce to the point where it nauseated me. God help anyone who comes here looking for a fulfilling meal. Included gratuity into the check, but told me I didn't have to pay it if I didn't receive good service. What a weird spot to be put in!?

There's a great variety of drinks--nice traditional mezcalitas, chaya cocktails (with xtabentun), clericot, beer, wine, you name it. The last year or so they've had, in my opinion, a very fine singer/guitarist; she's there, I believe, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and maybe Saturdays. Music starts at 8:30 (it used to start at 8:00, and I wish it still did or at 7:30) -- no cover. (That's not to say that on the other nights you won't hear good music; over the years there have been many fine trova singers.) All in the atrium of an historic building: in our opinion, a special if not unique place in Merida.

It's a really relaxing place. Interestingly enough, I didn't even notice that there wasn't a tv until the second evening. The complimentary breakfast is AMAZING - don't miss it! We got to sample some local dishes as well as homemade mango jam, fresh warm bread and a choice of fruit juices. It was an unexpected highlight of our stay. While you're waiting for you breakfast or you've decided to have a drink before bed, make sure you check out the eclectic decorations that make this stay one I won't soon forget. Great find! * and a cute gift shop!

I cannot over state how kind and genuine the staff here is. We were greeted with kindness and enthusiasm after a long drive, given homemade refreshments and assisted in unloading our luggage. It was late but everyone made us feel instantly at home and comfortable. After walking around town from the hotels perfect location we headed to bed. Unfortunately we had an early flight, so we woke up at 04:00 and the night staff had prepared for us a beautiful breakfast, light because it was early but he said he didn't want us to go hungry to the airport. As we departed the staff said goodbye and that anytime we are in Merida consider this place our home. I have never experienced such exceptional service and kindness as we did here. Gracias mi amigos

They gave us a perfect private room! -We ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer, and it was excellent! The tomatoes were really, really good. -I got the cacio y pepe for my entree and it was easily the best I've ever had outside of Italy : ) Very tender pasta, in a peppery white sauce. -I tried the ravioli and it was delicious, nice spices and sauce. -Service was excellent! This place is on the fancier side. We got in with shorts, but more formal waiters, etc. -If I could only go back to one restaurant in Merida, this would be it. Highly recommended!

Outside it was still pleasant but you sit on plastic chairs and most the diners outside, like us, waited about 30 minutes at our tables until our order was taken. Definitely the walk ons who eat outside seem to have less attention granted to them, but to sit inside you need a reservation when it is busy, so reservations are recommended. All that said once we placed our order the food was promptly served on all occassions. It was always rich and delicious, with all ingredients tasting super fresh. The flavors were bold but not overpowering, and the portion sizes were modest but fair. The prices were a bit high relative to other places you could find around here but generally speaking you pay for quality at this place. It's an excellent option for some homemade pasta and fantastic salads, but that also makes it super popular, so just be patient as you may need to wait at times. Still the wait is worth it, give it a chance you won't be disappointed. Happy eating! -John Seeto
