I called GOT JUNK to pick up a couch and loveseat. The man that answered the phone gave me a starting estimate of $149. He told me that since it was two pieces, the cost could be $169 dollars. He said that if I spoke with the drivers, they may lower the cost. I scheduled a pick-up between 6:30 & 8:30pm that evening. The young men arrived. They were very polite and professional. One came to me with a clip board and told me for two pieces, the price was $269! I told him what their constituent told me. They said he does that all the time and it causes problems with customers. I told him to let the guy who answered the phone pay the extra $100! I was angry that I had been lured into a pick-up only to extend the price. The driver told me he was going to take a picture and call his manager to see if they could lower the price. He walked on the other side of the truck, presumably made a call. He then told me he was unable to get ahold of his manager and offered $200. I said no! Then he said he would give me his "personal discount" and make it $180. I finally said okay just to get the furniture off my curb. If a neighbor would have called the police, I then would have had a citation fee. They took the couch and loveseat, but is cost me! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. The antics were a financial jigsaw puzzle. They take advantage of customers. Not a great way to do business. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. 1-800-GOT-JUNK is nothing but a bait and switch, which is designed to get the haulers into your home and overcharge you. Online, it tells you to get a quote you have to fill out their form and instead of getting a quote with a price, the website is designed to book the appointment without showing you a price. When I dug around their website and finally did find a price, it stated that for a single item (desk) the price was $79. Initially, I had a desk and file cabinet that I needed them to come and discard and it had to be done on the date of the appointment. When the two haulers arrived, I informed them that I had gotten rid of the file cabinet on my own so the only thing I needed them for was to haul the desk away. The hauler tells me that the rate is based on the volume of the truck, which didn't seem right, but at this point I don't have access to the website and again I needed this gone that day. So after they removed the desk, I reached out to 1-800-GOT-JUNK and explained what happened and that I should have been charged $79 for the desk and I was easily charged 4-5 times that rate. I explained that if the quote was for two items, shouldn't it have reverted to the single item pricing since they only took a single item? Luckily they take pictures of everything, so I got a reply back but the reply back stated that I would still be charged over two times that advertised $79 because I was, in fact, right in that the hauler should've revised the pricing when he realized he was only taking a single item. I asked about why it's not the advertised $79 and he stated that the hauler should've disclosed the correct price at the time of the haul but that $79 is for a piece of office furniture like a chair and that there's a separate itemized price list sheet that would've had different prices depending on the desk size. Again, NONE of this is available to the general public under the pricing link on their webpage and in fact, the webpage states "starting at $79 for one small item" and proceeds to list "examples of pieces with single-item pricing" which includes "any furniture." When I explained this was extremely misleading and that it would be easy to just show the ACTUAL price list under "pricing" for transparency, the owner's reply was "I don't make the website." So that tells you the kind of people you're dealing with and what to expect - had I heard this upfront, that would've been an easy pass. But you live and you learn and the best I can do now is warn the next person. read more

One of the main reasons I chose this company was this promise on their website: "We care about the environment and are committed to safe and responsible disposal, keeping items out of the landfill wherever possible." I even called them before I booked the job to find out exactly what happens to the things they haul away. I was assured that each truckload was taken to a warehouse where it would be sorted into categories: some things would be recycled and some would be donated to charity. I was glad to hear this because many of the items I was getting rid of were still usable; I just needed them out of the house because I'm about to sell. Because of these assurances, I was shocked and horrified when the driver told me that they would be driving straight to the dump. It was all being thrown away! The truck was loaded by this time, so there was nothing I could do. Even before I found out that everything was going to the dump, the two workers were very careless, allowing many items to break. They even deliberately smashed a wooden cabinet in the street before throwing the shattered pieces into the truck. If the website and the person I spoke with on the phone had been honest with me, I might have made different arrangements. And to add insult to injury, the service is incredibly expensive. I paid nearly $1600 for this terrible experience. I will not use this company again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more

They took my wife for hundreds of dollars and the just moved 26 empty boxes and an old small smoker. The distance was less than 50 feet. They could see she was handicap and she kept asking the same questions over and over. My son was upstairs and I don't know why she didn't ask him to help and I was out of town. The took total advantage of a handicap woman. I call a complaint to the GM/manager of the San Antonio office and he said from what I told him that $500+ for that job was too much. Without getting the pictures for the workers he offer $300, I said more like $200+. He said he would call back. Never did!! Call 2 more times without getting ahold of him and left messages. This place will rip off, woman, handicapped and veterans because that's what my wife is. No morales, values or ethics when you do this to someone read more

I made an appointment to have these guys come to my house to pick up some junk between 1:00-3:00. I got a text from an Operations Manager at 12:40 indicating they would be there between 2:00 and 3:00 IF NOT EARLIER. Then at 3:10 I got a text from the driver saying they were on the way and would be there in 45-50 minutes. So now somehow they were going to be an hour late. Then at 3:25 the driver called me and said they just got a request from another team to go help move something for another customer, and that was going to add another 30-40 minutes before they would get to my house. Needless to say, I cancelled the pick-up and ended up calling their competitors. It's unbelievable to me that not only were they running an hour late AFTER I was told they were on time, but then they STILL bumped me to the bottom of the list to go move something for ANOTHER customer before they were going to come to me. read more

I used the company for the first time after I had done some yard work and some house "cleaning out." My items that I needed removed 2, 1/4 full leftover pallets of sod (about a trunkload) 2 king sized mattresses 2 old and broken vacuums 3 old car batteries 6 wooden pallets (not heavy, just bulky and too big for my car) Except for the pallets, with rope, and a lot of effort, I could have fit everything into/on my car (mazda 6), but just had too much to do and needed the stuff gone Honestly - it was, at most, a 15 minute load and go I'll start with the goods The web site is easy to manage, and I was very impressed that I could get an appointment the same day The driver called (right on time) and said they were on the way They arrived within the specified window and were clean, professional, well mannered and represented the company as well as I think one could It made sense that they charge by the "truck-load" or size of truck space The not so goods It really centers around the pricing (go figure) The representative looked at the items for about 10 sec, got out a calculator, said some standard statement about how the standard fee for a refrigerator was $125 or something, which was fine. Then took a second, and said, "Well, this looks like about 1/2 a truck-load" (I kind of laughed as it became obvious how this all worked), "soo......(tap tap tap on calculator)..... $586" There was NO WAY this would fill half of their large industrial, immaculate and beautiful truck. NO. WAY. MAYBE 1/8 So, now, that bargaining starts. "Well, what if we......." Just stop. I paid right around $350 for them to remove the sod, and the mattresses. They had it loaded up and were gone in less that 10 minutes (I timed it). Now, I am not one to dispute the value of this service, I understand they need the truck, the labor, they need to haul it and dispose of it. I get it and think they do that part great. But..... to make the whole basis of an inflated pricing model to be about an abstract and ambiguous metric (how much space does it take up) and then the psychology of "well, we're here and we can take it now, or we'll just leave," just isn't the kind of thing I want to deal with in my dealings. So I will not call them again. I'll just rent a truck and do it myself. More time yes, but literally, less than half the cost. Show up with a tape measure, do some measuring, charge by square feet, or inches or whatever. Anyway - they do what they do well. The reps are professional, courteous, and efficient. The came and were not honest about how much room it took, then blamed it on being heavy (had an increased rate they were charging AFTER they loaded it all)..... shady service and wouldn't use it again. Also, we were charged twice "accidentally"! We had to call them to get a refund. Buyer beware. I was there with my husband, we had no choice but to pay as the stuff was LOADED on the truck, and you're quite wrong ma'am, your workers quoted us one price at the beginning and charged almost $200 more. read more

This was the first time I used this service and it will absolutely be the last and I will never recommend this place to anyone. They have you put down what you need picked up which I did. I know sometimes people add on when they are there. But I put down exactly what was being picked up and they did not come prepared and gave all kinds of excuses why. There wasn't enough room on the truck so they eventually overloaded it and couldn't cover the load. They knew they were picking up a washer and dryer but had no dolly or anything to move it with. I had to let them use my moving dolly to get the heavy desk out. The pricing is nothing like it says. It is actually $125 to start and $50 for all large items such as a mattress, washer, dryer, recliner, ect. I booked on line and never got my $10 discount. The moving company I hired to move the stuff I was taking which was about 6 times more then I was junking only cost me $200. but this place only taking 9 items cost me almost $500. What horrible service. I got a price quote the day before and they couldn't take the load because the truck was full. I wanted the 10 dollars off for same day pick up. The gentlemen quoted me a price and said he would be back at a 930 am appointment the following day with an empty truck and would still get the 10 dollars off. I expressed i needed it conplete earlt becuse i had a lot to do to prepare for a move. They told me it wouldn't take more than 45 minutes because I prepared everything in one spot for the movers. I was outside the following morning and I waited until 930. I tried to call and saw that I was called at 900 and 903. I finally got a hold of the guys, after calling them about 6 times, at 1015 and was told because I didn't pick up the phone at 900 that they had to go to the next job. I told the guy Luis that the website doesn't say that and that they would call 15 minutes before arriving as a courtesy. Luis was unprofessional and indifferent and said no that is not how it works and that if I still wanted the service he would be there in 20 minutes. They showed up at 11am when I made the appointment for 930 and tried to quote me a more expensive price than the quote from the day before and also that I won't get the 10 dollars off. They did the job after having to leave to the dumpster and back,because they did a job before mine. MIND YOU I was told they would come with an empty truck to get it all done because they couldn't do it the day before. It took them 1 hour and a half to go to the dumpster and come back. They left the front of my house a mess when the advertisement says they don't leave a speck of dirt behind. Then when I went to pay they did not have any change for cash so I was stuck paying an extra 2 dollars for a horrible experience. Luis was unprofessional, uncaring and downright sub par. His guys were professional though.I will never ever use 1800 junk again. I can't believe this company hires people like this. Horrible, horrible (did I say horrible) customer service and relation. I'd give them more stars, if I could! They were an hour late, and called several times to keep me updated. When they came, they looked at the stuff, and gave me a price. The temperature was 100 degrees that day, and both Shelby and Donovan worked hard. One item was an iron grill set on a post. It was so rusted, and so heavy, they ended up knocking it a million times with a sledge hammer to get it loose. (Someone else would have said "we can't do it" but not these guys, they just kept on trying until they got it, even in that heat!) They hauled off that iron grill, a 300 pound pool table and 3 mattresses that a tenant had left behind, and did a great job. I was so pleased with their hard work, I gave them each a $20 tip, and believe me, they earned it! read more
