I called Freeflow because I saw their van in the driveway of a really picky neighbor who vets her contractors well. I figure if that woman was using Freeflow it was probably a good company. I called Freeflow and spoke to John. I told him the problem and that I hope he could come out right away. He said he could be there that evening. I was so relieved. Then John called again and said he could come out within a half hour if that worked for me. Great! He was there in an half hour, figured out the problem, and called for a guy to come bring him the right part. No waiting for Freeflow to get a part, no big fee for being an emergency call, just straight-up good customer service. A grave concern became a non-issue in about 90 minutes. Since it was an emergency we didn't get quotes. We just called Freeflow and were very happy with the service. So of course, we called John at Freeflow again once we moved into our new house. It was a foreclosure that Fannie Mae bought and "fixed" up. It had been vacant for over a year. John went through and fixed the mess Bathfitters made in installing the shower/bath combo, cleared the clogs in two upstairs drains, installed a new garbage disposal, and connected our water line to the new fridge. These were all separate visits since the troubles came over the course of 2 months as we lived in the house. John was very accomodating of our schedules. His quotes were always on or close to the actual cost. If there was a deviation it was explained, and since we paid in cash we got a discount. Now we plan to install a jetted tub in the master bath, and a half bath in the basement. So we will be calling John at Freeflow Plumbing confident we'll be getting good work for a fair price.

The original quote for the project was $3,875.39, and I paid a deposit of $1,356.38. Although I felt some of the individual charges were extremely high, including one item that appeared to be nearly four times the actual cost, I accepted the overall quote because I believed the total price was reasonable for the scope of work. The project involved plumbing work that had already been reviewed and approved through the condo HOA's infrastructure process. Part of the work required cutting a small opening in the ceiling of the condo unit below mine to access the pipes. I was prepared for this and had already arranged for my contractor to repair the ceiling once the plumbing work was completed. Instead of making a small access opening, John cut out a very large section of the ceiling, causing unnecessary damage, as shown in the attached photo. This resulted in additional repair costs that I now have to cover. After this, John informed me that if he were to continue the job, the cost would increase to $10,000. I declined because that was far beyond the original quote and because he appeared unable or unwilling to complete the project as originally agreed. Since the only work performed was an initial visit, cutting the ceiling, and obtaining the permit, I requested that $1,000 of my deposit be returned. John refused, stating that he believed he was entitled to keep the full deposit. I do not believe this was fair or reasonable, especially given the limited work performed and the additional damage caused. I wish I had checked YELP first due to the number of dissatisfied customers.

Cue my search for someone to install a backwater valve in my drainage line to make sure that doesn't happen again. Most contractors I called either seemed uninterested in trying to work around my (admittedly horrible) schedule or promised to come out and never arrived to give me an estimate. Then I found Modern Process Plumbing. Unlike most people I've dealt with regarding home repair or construction in the past, they gave me a very specific time they'd be out for the estimate and arrived exactly when they said they'd be here. They had the estimate ready for me a couple of days later. Their work proposal was as good as or better than any of the others I received and the price was lower. Better yet, they were willing to come out and do the work on Saturday so that I wouldn't have to take a day off of work (which would make the job far more expensive for me.) They arrived to start the work around 10:30 or so and were finished installing the valve, repairing the concrete, and cleaning everything up in the basement about five hours later. They took extra care to make as little mess as possible and were still apologetic about not thinking they'd cleaned up enough when they were done even though I can't see much of a mess at all down there. I will definitely be keeping these guys in mind for any plumbing work I have in the future.

I'm ENRAGED by their lack of customer service, care, timeliness, attention to detail, respect for me, my hard earned money, and overall lack of remorse for terrible work/service!!! My project consisted of installing two new toilets, installing two-bathroom faucets, installing shower faucets, kitchen sink faucet, installing a porcelain kitchen sink, installing new outlet covers and switch plates, towel bars, toilet paper holders, new light fixtures in the bathrooms, hanging a small bathroom mirror over the vanity. There were a few other smakk items that I requested but they were all things that most any handyman could do. AT LEAST I THOUGHT, AND WAS ALSO REASSURED BY JOHN McCUE THE OWNER OF FIRST CALL. The first two days they finished some but not nearly all of the tasks. I asked him how he'd like to be paid, and he said you can pay me 1/2 now and the rest at the end of the week. No problem!! Paid him $2703.00 and all's good! Let me add that I paid for every single item that was installed in my home, they had no expenses going into the job or by the time they left over two months later - NOVEMBER 5th, 2024!!!!! There are so many things wrong with the small tasks they worked on it's hard to just name a few. The faucets do not stay in one place when you turn them on or off, the entire faucet moves because it was never secured from the underside of the vanities. I just paid an actual certified electrician to come to my home last week to reinstall every single outlet and cover because JOHN McCUE's employee installed them incorrectly and the lights would not turn on and off as they did when he came out to put the new ones in place. They were upside down and the wrong switches were put in for a two-way light switch. I also asked to have one of the outlets for my range moved to behind my range because it was above the countertop and could be seen to be moved so it would be concealed. His reply was, "We'd have to put an entire new plug in to do that" and I said that's fine go ahead and do it because I don't want to see the plug. SO, he left the wire inside the box, put another plug behind the range and called it a day. Mind you, he didn't show up for two weeks because he had taken ill, so I waited for the job that should have taken one week max over a month to complete. John was taking them off my project to work on McDonalds restaurants that he has contracts for. I asked JOHN why my kitchen lights were not working the way they had before they changed the outlets and he said, "Well, MY GUY IS NOT A CERITIFIED ELECTRICIAN!!! I replied, you never mentioned that he wasn't certified ever! But that was it, he even turned the lights on from the other side of the room and it didn't work the way it had prior to them performing their services. JOHN McCUE comes off as a upstanding guy especially after I shared my experience of trying to find people to perform the duties I had contracted FIRST CALL to do. I'm suggesting you RUN - DON"T WALK - RUN! DO NOT HIRE THEM. His work cost $5,406.00 A monkey with a wrench could have performed what they said they could do. I LOOK BACK NOW AND THINK THE MONKEY WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BETTER CHOICE, AT LEAST I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN SOMETHING OUT OF IT - I WOULD HAVE BEEN ENTERTAINED. I wasn't laughing then, and after paying someone else to fix what they did wrong, I'm not laughing now. Many people have said, you may not remember what someone says to you.
