It is simply wonderful. My wife and I have been going to Galena several times a year for over 20 years. This is hands down the the best place we have stayed and the best restaurant in the area. I would go as far to say one if the best hotels/Inns I have stayed in, in my life. I travel over 100 nights a year. I have been to 22 different countries and 47 states. It is one of the best. All this and it's only a short 2.5 hour drive from Chicago! I see some cheap people give negative reviews. Please stay away!

The dining room felt like a rustic lodge or chalet, with large windows for easy viewing of the surrounding landscape. Each course was delicious, full of so many flavors and textures. I had the Beef Wellington and my wife had the Skirt Steak. Both cuts were cooked precisely as ordered. Dessert was the Lychee & Coconut dish. 129 Walnut Hill It…read moredoesn't really take much to make me happy...and on a weekend getaway, I'm only really looking for 4 things. I want to sleep in, I want a hot cup of coffee in the morning, and I want to be able to watch TV during down time, and blow dry my hair after a shower. Renting this golf villa, I was hardly able to do any of that. First off - aside from the couch and rug in the living room, the whole unit is dated. To the tune of the 80s. The 1st floor bed may have had my great-grandmothers hand made lace sheets on it, and shades on the window so paper-thin, it was almost awkward to sleep there. The shower curtain with tie backs should be put back in the '91 JCPenny catalog they came out of. We pulled some extra blankets from the closet, they may have been purchased and washed in the same year...gross. A Macy's one-day sale would cover all the updating needed. Coffee maker? Junk... My luke warm black water wasn't going to do it for me. I get that this is a rental unit, but there should be some minimum requirements to meet before entering the rental program. (Put one of these on the Macy's list too). There were two grills on the patio...which led us to have hope at least one worked. One had a knob missing, and some sticks in it from who knows when, and no LP tank attached. Maybe it's time for that one to go?? The other (same brand/model) thankfully worked. Trying to sit down and enjoy a cocktail while your steak is cooking is another story... This bargain hunters gem of a POS table and chair set may have set the owners back all of $50 during a Menards 11% sale. Not at all comfy, but the clear result of a 'eh, this'll do' moment. Don't worry, there's no view to speak of here anyway...completely wooded back yard. There's a fairway back there, but you aren't going to witness any golf, only the screams and splashes in the close by pool. Cleanliness was also an issue throughout our weekend getaway. Though this may be the fault of the rental company, and not the owners. Most of the dishes and glasses we first grabbed were dirty. I ended up throwing everything I could into the dishwasher for a round of cleaning (and I'd thought I left cleaning at home for the weekend). The bathrooms were half decent, but visible dust, hairs, and other miscellaneous debris were evident on the counters, sinks, and tubs. There was also no blow dryer to be found. I guess I assumed there would be one, my bad. The towels all had a mildew scent to them, and were also thrown in the washer/dryer to pre-wash while we ran out for some groceries. Again, things I didn't think I'd need to do while away for the weekend. TV? Ha. There are about 10 channels to chose from, and zero wifi, or cellular service for that matter. Being able to disconnect from life is one thing, but wondering if you could even call 9-1-1 during an emergency is another. Standard cable and wifi should also be a requirement on these rental units. Everyone has down time during their vacation and wants to watch tv or catch up on Twitter. The Walnut Hill pool... Part of why we decided to rent this unit for the weekend was that it had its own pool (separate from the Owners Club) and since it was late July, we figured we'd avoid some of the crowd there. The pool area was nice, lounge chairs and patio tables with umbrella were not skimped out on. Though the one we chose wasn't in optimal working order, go figure. The pool water was cold for late July, and definitely needed a cleaning. The bottom was filthy, and I saw a band-aid float by at one point. This unit will not be on our list of future places to rent from.

If you are in this area and you break down or if you want to rent a vehicle come here . His son Brad also has a diesel repair service that's where I had my Duramax towed to and remember this was all on a Saturday mid morning and yet the service was like none other forget enterprise forget all the other rental places this place I will always go to thank you very much... thumbs up

Nice fire pit/grill. On the down side, grass was not treated and gnats were so bad you couldn't hardly sit outside. One camper said they had to go buy a fogger so they could sit outside. Although they advertise WiFi there was not. RV dump station is not RV friendly. Water is not close enough to the sewer to rinse hose after emptying holding tanks. Nowhere to dispose of trash at the dump station. Only one trash dumpster in the entire park and not easily accessible by RV.

The two ladies are getting up there in age , so we thought the best way to see this city was by taking the trolley tour. The tour cost twenty dollars a person and lasts about one hour. Our guide was very informative about the history of this famous city. We drove by all the important historical homes and markers, while avoiding having to get in and out of the car , numerous times and having to do tons of walking. Parking can be an issue here. The city is also full of lots of hills. So this quick tour was right up our alley by saving us tons of walking and time while getting a more thorough understanding of this city. I highly recommend this tour for people trying to get the Galena experience without doing a ton of walking, searching for parking, and doing a bunch of in and out of cars.

The tour goes by all the tourist attractions - at a slow pace - through Main St and up the hill to the west of downtown. Then it crosses the river and goes east of downtown as well. We really didn't check out most of the ground since we were leaving the camper early in the morning and we're gone until into the evening The 50 amp power worked just fine, however, the 30 amp our surge protector said it had a fault so make sure you're checking that out before you plug-in Water and sewer were just fine There are certain spots that have cement pads, ours did not, it was just gravel and it does tend to get rainy here so make sure you bring a Mat and such so you don't track mud and gravel into your RV It looks like many people camp here for the season as there were a lot of folks who had structures attached to their units or had put up three seasons rooms. It also appears the same people return each year because everyone knew each other, so that was kind of fun to see. The drawbacks of this place include the train, which runs 24 seven and is very loud if you are in one of the first couple rows. If you're going to stay here, I would highly recommend you try to get something towards the back, closer to the water. We ended up running our very loud AC fan all night and that did help drown out some of the noise, but the vibration you can't fix You have easy access to Dubuque as well as Galena Illinois is just 15 minutes or so. We were able to get to both locations easily. $60 ish night

She made sure everyone had their flights rescheduled, rentals cars for those that chose to get one, and food for the rest of the people that waited out for the fixed plane to come in. She was so kind, considerate, and really knew what she was doing. She was also helping get luggage on the plane and drove the tractor away from the plane. She really knew what she was doing (as she's been doing this 17yrs evidently) and I'm hoping that she is properly acknowledged. Connie thank you again
