    Exploring caves
    Ruth A.

Just returned from an unforgettable Scandinavia trip with 1000 Treks! Eduardo, our adventure lead, crafts the most ADVENTUROUS & THOUGHTFULLY designed itineraries. One of my favorites was the guided cave hike, which felt intimate and personalized, more of a 1-on-1 experience than a generic group tour. The same goes for the scenic treks in both the Sweden and Finland Laplands, biking through nature on e-bikes, alternating between hot saunas and icy plunges, visiting the Ice Hotel amongst other activities. These aren't your typical travel excursions, they're immersive, off-the-beaten-path moments that stick with you. It was a bit challenging at first (my body definitely felt it!), but I quickly adapted and came home stronger, more energized, and so fulfilled. If you're moderately active and craving a trip that pushes you in all the best ways, this is it. Highly recommend 1000 Treks. I can't wait to go on another adventure with them!

    Fiji islands catamaran trip

I just got back from an amazing group trip to Fiji with 100 Treks. Honestly, my Fiji experience couldn't have been better. In our small group, everyone was incredibly welcoming and easy to be around. We hiked in the rain, swam under waterfalls, paddled across fast-moving rivers, crawled into a cannibal cave, soaked in the tropical forest beauty during optional rafting, ziplining, tubing, or other activity, we spent a day in the sun on a catamaran and snorkeled along tropical islands and sandbars. We picked up a few bruises and scratches, a sunburn, and countless unforgettable moments. Plus, we met so many warm and happy locals. Bula! The trip was well planned, well organized, and smoothly run. Our Fearless Leader, Eduardo (Etuate in Fijian), was experienced, resourceful, and genuinely cared about all of us. Vinaka vakalevu!

I had a great time on this trip. We stayed in Phuket, but did a lot of different activities, which is why I like 1000 Treks trips. In addition to touring the city and going to a couple of local markets and shows, we went swimming, snorkeling, surfing, ziplining, ATV mud riding, visited beautiful islands and movie locations, ate lunch at a sea village built on stilts, fed and bathed elephants, pet tigers, saw a variety of monkeys, and of course enjoyed lots of great Thai food and hospitality. Everybody on the trip was nice and fun to be around. This was my fourth trip with 1000 treks, and I look forward to number 5. Their itineraries almost always include things that would be nearly impossible to find as part of any other tour package.

Thailand did not disappoint! As usual, on a 1000 Treks trip we were going from morning to night. Snorkeling, shows, animal sanctuaries, wake boarding, ATVs, food (unbelievable food!), and the Hong Tour by Starlight were highlights, all with fun, interesting people. My biggest question is, "where to next?"!

So far so good! I've been on 3 trips with them (Finland, Alaska, Madagascar) and in the process of going on a 4th (Bali). I've enjoyed all my trips with them and look forward to exploring more. All trips are different as it's always a different group of people and places, and there are bound to be hiccups. But Eduardo and Leigh are friendly and easy to talk to and are always open to feedback. Thanks guys, see you soon!

for the Africa Trip 2025 This trip was out of this world started off with table top mountain and ending with chimpanzees running around. We also got to experience a night safari seeing jaguars and hyena. If your not into animals and remember that the challenge rating is a 4 meaning difficult than this trip was probably not for you. Super fun everyone was nice the people in the area are nice as well!

I went to the Galapagos during Thanksgiving with Eduardo and Leigh's company. I was so looking forward to the islands and left disappointed. It was unorganized and my roommate issues were not completely addressed when brought up to their attention. Leigh still continued to assign us together on the same boat excursions even though there were 2 boats. But, they didn't care. These issues continued though the whole trip and could have been avoided. So, when there's a problem with their company, their response is to not come anymore on trips with them. Actually, this is a first time I received such a dismissive attitude from any business. Also, they subcontract local tour companies. In essence, I paid for two companies. I didn't get value paid and the added expense contributed to my dissatisfaction. I would NOT recommend them. ----- I have my constitutional rights to freedom of speech and the ability to express my opinion. There is also the California anti- SLAPP according to my family of lawyers. 1000 treks wants me to remove my review.

I went on the Alaska Midnight Sun trip and it was an absolutely INCREDIBLE experience!!! The group leaders are enthusiastic, friendly, and engaged in the adventure. I got to check whitewater rafting, atv riding, and dog sledding off of my bucket list! We visited beautiful hikes, rode on boats and trains, and saw so much wildlife. While our itinerary was packed with fun touristy activities, we still had plenty of free time to explore the local areas. The group leaders also played a huge role in that, helping us find the best places to eat and hang out. The group was like a little family even though we were mostly strangers. This company really has a way of pulling people together and eliminating any awkwardness between group members. 1000 treks is a well run, good quality company offering vacations that you will remember for the rest of your life!!!!!!

Leigh and Eduardo put together the BEST TRIPS EVER!!! I've been on several, ranging from single day excursions kayaking the Channel Islands to a multiple week trip to Alaska to see the midnight sun north of the Arctic Circle. Their secret weapon is Eduardo's desire to do everything the world has to offer and Leigh's more relaxed pace. Combined they offer trips with almost limitless possibilities for the enthusiastic adventurers and for people who want really awesome experiences with some downtime in between. I love their trips so much that I knew this most recent Alaska adventure would be the perfect time to propose to my girlfriend. I did it towards the end of the trip surrounded by our new friends. After a couple weeks with everyone we formed close bonds with people who had previously been strangers, so everyone got to celebrate.

I've been on two trips with 1000 Treks to Australia and just returned from a fantastic trip to Tahiti, Bora Bora, and Moorea. The experience was amazing and Leigh put together a fun trip for us Land people. What I love the most about this trip is not having to worry about planning the tour and activities for each day, it was all taken care of before we left for our trip, making it a very relaxing experience. I've enjoyed meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. Since traveling with 1000 treks I've had the opportunity to travel to places I never thought I could go, it's something that we should all do for ourselves, to enjoy life while we still can. Leigh is very accommodating and mostly fun to hang out with. Thank you, Eduardo and Leigh, until the next adventure.. xoxo

Pro-Tip: If after the tour and you have to hop back on the freeway to go home (during rush hour), you can kill some time at the Burbank Town Center Mall that is close by. Easy to find the parking lot, everything is clearly labeled and they charge $15 for the day. Go down the looney toons elevator (level G) and you are now in the lobby. You will have to go through metal detectors. If you get there early, you can hang out at one of the most expensive Starbucks to relax. The bathroom is near the gift shop. You can also go into "check in" area and look at some cool stuff. They ask that you arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled time. The 30 minutes is KEY for the Deluxe Tour. I checked in around 9am with Michael for our 930am tour. He said we are early and go ahead and have a seat and he will call us when ready. (THIS IS WRONG! HE DUCKED OUT AFTER SCANNING OUR TICKET BUT FOR OTHER PEOPLE OF A DIFFERENT RACE, HE SAID, "OH, YOU HAVE THE DELUXE, LET ME GIVE YOU YOUR LANDYARDS." I WITNESS THIS TIME AND TIME AGAIN. WHEN HE LEFT THE COUNTER AGAIN, I ASKED A DIFFERENT PERSON FOR OUR LANYARDS) Michael NEVER called us and forgot about us. This is BS because if you have the Deluxe Tour, your name is on the list. He claimed we were just added, nope! I saw my name on the list and he crossed it out. The lanyard is important because on the bottom of it, is a voucher (don't tear) that is good at Central Perk for a free snack and drink. Michael, you are a POS, how hard is it to bend down and give me 4 lanyards? I know what you were doing but I was there with my two kids. I showed them how to handle things when someone is being "selective" in treatment. After the 930pm group is called, you are invited into a lounge. Feel free to take advantage and get some pastries, chips, other snacks, cold drinks, and coffee. The silverware and cups must stay in the lounge. Hopefully, you didn't buy anything at Starbucks. Then give you a count down when the tour will start, use the bathroom outside at this point. If you don't need to, trust me, do it. In the lounge, we were also offered a complementary admission to the Superman experience (do it). Then you go into a movie theater to watch a quick 5-minute video before meeting your tour guide. Our tour guide was Alejandro and he was wonderful. Super cool and turned our day around quickly. He is full of energy and knowledge and you can tell he enjoys his job. Alejandro took us around the studio and empty sets and explained how movies were made and which movies were made with each specific set. We would go to a different part and get out and walk. Alejandro did such a good job and that is why I am rating this 5 stars. We were able to see the costumes department and they have tons of clothes from different eras. Pictures were not allowed in there. After visiting a few areas and actually a stage (think warehouse) and the sound department (how the mix in effects plus music), we took our first break at the exclusive WB Commissary. The best part was that Alejandro was about to join us for lunch (working lunch). Lunch was delicious and top notch. You can order a starter and entree and they are sensitive to guests with allergies. A drink is also included. After lunch, we made our way to the prop department and it is amazing at some of the stuff they have in there. After the guided tour, it was time for Alejandro to say bye to us for the self-guided portion. Right at the Central Perk. No snacks are allowed in the exhibits room on left so we did that area first and saw the costumes for Mortal Kombat, a few cool things, and photo OP on the Friends and Big Bang Theory Couch. Give them your phone. They will also take a picture too and hand you a QR card. Then you can do a motion video of Harry Potter riding the broom or Batman in the motorcycle and they take the picture at the end. You are not allowed to photo or film while you are doing this on the green screen. Then show the QR code and maybe you want to buy a picture or two? There is another sound stage presentation similar to the one we did on the tour but different movie. A few exhibits and we were back into Central Perk again to cash in for a free drink and free snack. I decided on a blended drink and apple fritter. My kids took chips and bottle of lemonade. Inside the giftshop was the counter of Central Perk, the sofa again inside the coffee shop, Monica's kitchen, etc. It was close to 4pm at this point and we did the Superman Experience and they take to the Friends fountain for a quick picture. Then it's off to play your game and afterwards, you can explore the exhibits inside the Fortress of Solitude. You can take pictures and buy them afterwards. There is a giftshop too. Then shuttle to Batman and Harry Potter stuff. Great day!

She was so knowledgeable and helped set the stage for us to slip into a forgotten era and get a glimpse of how imagination met inventiveness with a DIY charm. ~ A LITTLE BACKSTORY FOR YOU ~ It's not pronounced Rubel as Barney from Flintstones. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. To book, visit RubelTours.org and make a reservation. ~ OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE ~ It's as if Michael Rubel, the creator and mastermind of this enchanted dominion had intended it to be--magical. Built in the castle period of wood and tin, every corner captured our interests, from antique cars to the 1890's Seth Thomas Tower Clock with a unique backstory (and only six in existence today). There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? Thanks to the sheer persistence (and probably delightful stubbornness) of Michael Rubel, we now have this quirky, towering State Treasure sitting right in the middle of Glendora like a fairy tale that accidentally took a detour through a hardware store. This place is beautifully done, and part of its charm is that it's a full-on hodgepodge of relics, antiques, crystal trinkets, and "wait... what is that doing here?" moments tucked into every nook and cranny. You'll marvel, you'll laugh, you'll squint in confusion--honestly, it's everything you'd want in a castle built with love, imagination, and a dash of madness. And let's talk about the makeshift cemetery. Quirky? YES. Fun? Absolutely. Slightly spooky? Only if your imagination is over-caffeinated. But it fits the vibe perfectly--like the castle whispered, "You know what I'm missing? A tiny cemetery." The tours are fantastic, the guides are passionate, and the whole experience feels like you're stepping into a living scrapbook of California history and charming chaos. Overall: Amazing, amazing place. Book your tour. They only do tours every first Sunday of the month, so set your alarms, mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger--just don't miss it. Every bite was delicious and meaningful. This is not just a food tour, it's an experience. You're learning, laughing, vibing, and eating extremely well. If you live in LA or are visiting, this is a must. They offer tours in so many different neighborhoods, and after this one, I want to do them all. Do yourself a favor and book it. You will not regret it.

The two stars go to Big Mike holding down this bizness. The cons: The night before Purchased dual package tour: La Hood Life and Hollywood tour for $125 a person. A Text message sent at 2am said to meet up at 930am, which we didn't see until parking in the garage at 930am. We get there at 937am to check in, our tour gets verified with the owner (bald slick brother in a all white T parked a glossy badass Benz). At 10am the rest of our tour group arrives. They wait on the opposite end of us because our tours are separate. At 1010am we get verified the 3rd time that we have both tours booked, then offered a seat in the open air tour truck. At 1035 we get verified again & told to get off the open air tour truck and get a seat on the white van with everyone else, that our Hollywood tour would be after we get back from the Hood tour, Mind you the tour I booked was described as 3.5 hrs, quick & to the point. Instead We end up on a nearly 4 hours long tour of the hood. We got back to the pickup location at 230pm. 5 hrs in total wasted mostly by waiting around, watching a verbal argument btwn Mooney, the owner & Big Mike but he seemed to stay out of it. The complaining and arguing and cussing was authentic, cuz Mooney's frustration was real & felt. Yet I think his hissy fit led to all the chaos & waiting around we had to do. We're out $80 because that how much more we paid than everyone else on our tour. I left feeling "Debow-ed" with my tourist chain getting yanked off! Not to mention, the Van sound system went out by blasting uncontrollable screeching noise every time the Van was started back up. This screeching assault to our hearing happened about 9 times. Painful!!! Plus we were stuck in the heat with no AC. Haha it was so ridiculously awful, that looking back I can only laugh. Luckily we broke down close to a small store & bought cold drinks & snacks while the wiring was figured out to the sound system. The rest of the tour the microphone didn't work so the people in the back couldn't hear Big Mike's awesome story telling, and their nonstop complaining behind me was distracting AF. Lastly what we were overcharged $80, should be given to Big Mike and lil sum for Mooney cuz Mooney was mad as hell and I could tell by his high level cussing he can tell a story too.
