I've tried several gyms in the past on my journey to lose weight and get in shape. The first day I stepped into this gym I was welcomed with open arms. Being an older and heavier person I had my own self doubts but Peter and Sara encouraged me and worked with me to overcome those self doubts. No other gym took the time to help motivate me the way Peter and Sara have. Now two years later and 100 lbs lighter Im at a level of confidence I haven't been at in years. I joined 10th Planet Royal Oak over a year ago after years of combat sports obsession. I have never felt more welcomed anywhere else than I have at 10th Planet Royal Oak! From day one, everyone was very open to helping me learn the art of jiu-jitsu, it truly is a great team to be a part of. I knew I didn't want to try out another school, I had found my home. The instructor, Peter, is always supportive whether you have intentions of competing or not. If you do plan on competing, he shows you high percentage techniques that will improve your overall game, not just get you the easy win. He is very accessible as noon and evening classes are offered. I've known Peter for a few years now as i've been doing Jiu Jitsu for over 3 years. I watched Peter get his brown belt from Eddie Bravo and receive his black belt. I've visited/trained at a few other gyms in the past and can honestly say that none come close to the quality of both the instruction and team culture of 10th Planet RO. Our coach, Peter (10th Planet Black Belt), does an excellent job of keeping a clean, safe, and team-oriented environment while also delivering a very effective and systematic approach to the sport of jiujitsu. Started going here just over 2 months ago, and I'm hooked. Checked out a couple different gyms prior, that were either too MMA oriented (not enough bjj technique) or way overpriced. This place is affordable and the technique being taught here is super detail oriented. Black belt instructor Peter puts in a lot of effort to help the members learn and improve daily. The camaraderie here is the biggest thing too in my opinion.
