A club that closes the outdoor pool on a day that all other pools are open just tells the story. It sucks! Badly!

This was a nightmare from the start. Jen took forever returning emails but did answer my questions…read more Too bad she lied to me...I asked for the big and beautiful class ( for new and very overweight) I told I was NOT going to buy this unless she had these classes open. Since I was a little shy to be around people who work out every day and are half my size. I was also bringing my elderly mother. She told me "of course!" they were open and not just the regular classes. I also mentioned my health concerns of having a knee replacement and she told me to come in a half hour early the first day to discuss it with the trainer. I also got a email in the afternoon the DAY BEFORE it started stating the location had changed! No phone call no warning! I book this over a month ago so she had time to inform us. The lack of professionalism took a new meaning when I arrived at this new location and the lady at the new location didn't even know their was a bootcamp class there today because Jenn had never contacted her to let her know! Once our trainer showed up a half hour later I asked about my health concerns and he had no idea what to do or how to help. The last straw was when he had us run a around a few blocks in the dark in the street with no street lights . This wouldn't have been bad but a lot of the girls all were in much better shape than me and ran twice as fast. After not seeing another person in sight while running the blocks I was almost hit by a car. I did not know we were going to do this and wore my normal black work out clothes and tried to stick to side of the road. I didn't feel safe and was very shaken up. My mom said she couldn't run around the block was was walking instead but did not feel safe so just came back after a short time. The trainer didn't know how to answer the questions I asked. His standard response was "call Jenn." She also refuses to give refunds for any reason. This (who mess was because of) and she will take NO responsibility! You can spend a LOT LESS MONEY and get MUCH better results!

Really??? At the time it was an all guys studio... Not only that, she comes to class late or just misses it. Unplanned training- basically she just has you do things at her whim. She caters to her friends. It is the worst. I asked for my money back because of the change in offerings and environment and she told me I should be ok with it. I paid for one thing, got something totally different. Worst of the worst. Stay away.

This powerhouse is nowhere near as big as the Novi location. Actually it is tiny like a snap fitness or 24 fitness. It has everything you need and it is clean. Equipments feels like they bought them second hand or been in used for 20 years. They are clean and functioning though. Fee is $30 a month and there is like a $60 yearly maintenance fee. The great thing is that it is not very crowded and it opens 24 hours.

But the cost cutting part of me needed to join a gym. I started at Powerhouse Gym because of deal from one of the local sites. The gym is relatively small, but has ellipticals, treadmills, stair masters, and a hand cycle. There are weighted machines and lots of weights!! I stick to cardio and like that they are remodeling the gym. New light fixtures, televisions, and reupholstered machines to name a few. There is a smoothie/juice bar with drinks under $5. You will find most guys and some gals lifting weights in the far end of the gym. Others like myself, stick to the ellipticals and other machines for weight. There are personal trainers that you can pay to help get you in shape. They also have group fitness classes: zumba, bootcamp, kickboxing, and shadow boxing to name a few. There are 2 showers and the locker room is clean. Bring your own lock for lockers. Why Powerhouse? They are reasonably prices (no, not planet fitness priced) and I have never waited for a machine EVER. The weightlifters are pretty cool and I stay out their way as I can't and won't dead-lift 200+ lbs. (yet) There is a Kids Corner that kids can stay in while parents workout that doesn't cost extra. It's a small room with a table, chairs and cable. Not fancy, but serves a great purpose for those that need to bring the kids to get in a sweat. Ample parking and open until 1am M-Th.

As a…read moreresult of the amazing experience at the Coral Gables location, I decided to make visiting Life Time a monthly occasion for me until I commit to a membership. I visited the Life Time location in Bloomfield, Michigan on Saturday, July 8th for a day of massages and relaxation. A friend purchased massages for us both to enjoy. As I waited on the friend, I inquired on the timing of the massages as I was under the impression massages were 30 mins. As an fyi, timing wasn't an issue and didnt mind that the friend's massage went over time. I only inquired on the timing as I planned to participate in another activity and didn't want to miss the masseuse (Cassie) if I ventured off to do another activity. Cassie was absolutely wonderful by the way. The receptionist at the front desk of the spa (I did not get her name however she has two tone hair that appears to be gray and purple) started to speak to me in slang when answering my question. She stated that my friend booked two sessions and "that's all she can tell me" and "that's all she knows" while throwing up hand gestures. As I tried to explain to her that there is 2 of us and both sessions are 1 of each, she just kept going back and forth with me while speaking in slang and odd hand gestures. I obviously took the way she spoke to me as her having a preconceived notion about me. The woman was aggressive and she refused to speak to me in proper English, yet I observed her behavior before and after the encounter and she miraculously became professional again towards other clients. I feel that her mannerisms towards me were hostile, insulting and felt she was mocking me as I am a woman of color. Cassie (masseuse) took me back after the encounter and I confided in her. She helped me relax and was the best part of this entire ordeal. Also, judging from other reviews on Google, mistreatment due to ethnicity seems to be the norm at this location. I will do everything I can to get the word out about this location and the receptionist I had the displeasure of interacting with. I only wished I would have recorded the incident. Her actions towards me were not only unprovoked, but aggressive, evil and hateful. My friend has been a LifeTime member for years and she introduced me to the gym and I am interested in becoming a member as a result. It saddens me that an employee can practice micro-aggressions on paying customers, member or not. Very disappointing and hurtful to say the least. I only hope the spa employee does not treat any unsuspecting guests the same way. To harbor hatred for a demographic and act on it with aggression is unacceptable especially when this employee represents Life Time as a brand.

I didn't know what to expect other than an intense workout, and that's exactly what I received! The class I attended was split into two smaller groups. One went with Mike and one with Peter. I went with Peter and my workout included cardio (with a stationary bike, rowing machine, ski machine, and jumping jacks), lunges, upper body using a medicine ball and ropes, and a ton of squats. I liked how we kept switching exercises so I didn't get bored at all. I also liked that Peter took into account injuries of those in our group and gave them alternative exercises that were right for their situation... trainers / instructors don't always do that. The folks in Mike's group (including my aunt, uncle, cousin, brother, and a few friends) were all out of breath and dripping sweat by the end of their workout. I could tell that Mike's reputation is to be tough and kind of a smart-ass, but it works. He's a huge motivator for those in the gym. I loved the energy at AOS and I would totally workout here if I lived in Michigan full time. I was a little nervous after the workout that I'd be too sore to stand up at my sister's wedding that evening, but I felt great and had a fabulous time at the wedding... Thanks again to Peter for the workout and to Aunt De-De for motivating me to get my ass to AOS that morning!
