3 haircuts is enough of an experience to write a review. The salon is cool, but I care more about the talent and the haircut. Came to Donnie on a recommend from someone who has the same type of hair as mine (thick, wavy, and as Donnie consistently points out dry). I was growing out my hair from weird layers previously cut. I was more than communicative about my goals: cascading even layers in a basic face frame keeping it long, and also showed photos. The first haircut... he did not do much.. .and I thought ok... that is good as we are trying to shape it slowly I guess. Second haircut... still the same as the first... not much change, shape, or cascading layers. In fact each side was uneven... and had to go back to point out that it is uneven... Third haircut... now hair feels long again... but there was still some disconnect in the weird layers that have not been yet blended. He suggested to cut off the weird layer, (I trusted and agreed ) but I said not if it makes it too short. (I can't see in the back of my head). Donnie was quick to lob off the weird layer... and not blending it with the others. He cut it STRAIGHT across in a BLUNT cut... now my hair looks one length... NOT what I ever talked about and is now too short. He cut a little layer in the front that had absolutely no swing to it and when I put it behind my ear.. .my hair looked like the Little Dutch Boy. I could have done that myself. There was absolutely NO face frame or any layer at all. FYI with very thick hair there needs to be swing and layers so it is not heavy.... which he should know. I called ONCE AGAIN to point it out... and show a photo... his comment was "her hair is much thinner than yours" So he just arbitrarily cut into it with his scissors... NEVER measured each side.... needless to say he created the very issue I originally came in with... but now it is too SHORT with the same issue. Not sure if Donnie is complacent with his work, doesn't listen and just does what he wants, or just can't cut thick hair... but my experience was a BIG disappointment, not worth the $$ or the tip, and now I have to spend months growing my hair out again. read more

I have been going to Donnie at 122 Park Salon for almost a year and couldn't be more satisfied! I have very thick, coarse dry hair and after Donnie blows my hair out it looks straight and shiny. He works quickly and with great precision. He always takes the time to understand what I am looking for and then over delivers. Donnie has also colored and highlighted my hair with excellent results. My hair was very dark and unnatural looking when I first went to him. Now my hair looks natural and sun-kissed. I honestly couldn't be happier. Booked an appointment the same day I called in. You can say I was lucky, because coming into the salon, I can see that the salon has many customers. Donnie took care of me with my hair and knew from the top of his head what I did to my hair before even asking me. He was able to correct my color so that the red would fade, because I was asking for more browns/blonde in my hair. I did a balayage ombre in which I adore so much! He even gave me tips on how to care for my new hair so the color wouldn't become too brassy. Everything is great about this salon, as soon as you walk in the ambiance is very modern, everything is also very clean, and the staff is very welcoming and amazing. (VERY VERY VERY!) I must retract my review. After my 3rd visit my hair was returned to the dark color I was trying to get rid of. It was obvious I was unhappy, actually I was pretty shocked. Just because a hairdresser likes the color they dyed your hair doesn't mean it's what was asked for. I'm guessing there were no notes taken on my desired color or what we were working towards. I am so happy that I listened to the reviews and tried this salon. For many years, I have been a slave to my ash blonde highlights, always dreading even the smallest growth of my dark roots. I was ready for a change, but wasn't sure what I wanted. After a consult with Donnie, I decided to try balayage, and now I'll never go back to highlights. I love 122 park salon!! Great atmosphere, pleasant, professional and friendly staff. After years and years of trying to get my hair color right, enter Donnie at 122 Park Salon. Donnie spent the time with me to get it right. He really listened to what I wanted, made note of what I didn't like about my hair, made some suggests and ultimately got my hair to where I wanted to be color-wise. I've been going there for about 6 months now and the last time I was there (just last week) I told him that I finally feel good about my hair thanks to him. I've recently moved to Rockland county from Florida (yes I know, why?! Lol) and was in search of a new hair stylist/colorist. Went in today to get my hair back in check with a new cut, style, and color revamp with Donnie and he did not disappoint!!! My hair was in shambles as I had not treated it for six months (I had blonde faded highlights with overgrown roots-yikes!-- due to my own neglect)-- he brought me back to life with his amazing and obvious experienced skills, complete with balayage, and other treatments which blended my hair color perfectly, and a long layered cut and style. I think the salon is beautiful but I have never been treated so rudely by someone whom I am paying good money to before in my life. Donnie is the most arrogant obnoxious person I have ever met and not only was he rude and condescending to me but I have seen him be rude to his staff and other customers. I had been living in New City for nearly 6 years before I decided to let a non-NYC hair stylist touch my hair. I initially chose 122 Park because their ads were simple, chic, contemporary and unpretentious and didn't have the feel of used car salesmen from the 80s. I figured that a place with that taste level couldn't be that bad. I was very pleased when I arrived to find a sophisticated, minimalist and modern environment with a calming, spa feel. Everyone was professional and solicitous. Shayna did a great job interpreting the styles in the pictures I brought in for my type of hair. Donny was sweet and chirpy, making the atmosphere cheerful and in a way that didn't detract from the zen-like vibe. And, the entire staff was very friendly. They have very nice jewelry for sale, as well, and a lovely place to sit outside. Though I wouldn't necessarily consider this a "family" salon, as there isn't much space for very young children to bomb around in, Donny did a great job putting feather extensions in my girls' hair, which are still in by the way over 4 weeks later...
