I'd recommend going at a slower time - we got there at about 10:00 on a Saturday and by 11:00 it started getting crowded. For the first hour it was easy to avoid other families, and get lost in picking out our berries, but when it got crowded it became a little harder, but not impossible to stay spaced out. Plus only 45 minutes from DC, it's a nice get-out-of-the-house, forget about COVID, and get-out-of-the-city activity, and you could even do it with friends you are distancing from and spread out while picking. And bonus - they plant and give to Maryland Food Bank. We plan on going regularly until the season ends, for sure.

You grab a ticket to place your order, and things move quickly. Keep in mind there are extra charges for bags and card use. Cash is recommended, though cards are accepted at most stations (except the pretzel and ice cream lines). There is an ATM on-site. Note: The market is only open Thursday-Saturday, so plan ahead!

A DJ was spinning some awesome beats that really set the vibe. Parking can get a little tricky though -- it doesn't have to get too crowded before you're forced to park in the grass, and it gets a little hilly. The road is fairly small, so if there's one backup (like waiting for someone to move), a line of cars can easily form. On the property, we visited the petting zoo, did a kid's corn maze (along with a slide), took a hayride to the pumpkin patch and had the kids pick out their own pumpkins. They had a ball! The farm also has fresh vegetables, ciders, honey, jams, meat and other items available for purchase. The entry fee is $11 for those 2 and above which I think is reasonable. They also have ice cream(which they all loved), milkshakes, root beer floats and pulled pork sandwiches available for purchase. The woman who checked us out was an absolute delight, warm, funny, and exactly what you hope for at a local farm stand. Unfortunately my experience in the herb section was the opposite. When I asked about strawberry plants and was told they didn't have any, I mentioned I was a first time gardener and asked if she could recommend something beginner friendly. Her response was essentially "just pick something, all you have to do is water them." When I explained again that I was new and looking for guidance, she told me she couldn't help me. As a first time gardener trying to learn, that kind of dismissiveness was discouraging. If it weren't for the lovely woman at checkout, I likely wouldn't return. I ended up going to Ed's Plant World in Brandywine where the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful to a beginner. The difference was night and day. Was excited to see seeded watermelons and seeded grapes! We also grabbed some jelly's and apple butter. The Apple Butter took me back to Sunday mornings breakfast at Grandmas. The bakery side had a variety of yummy treats from doughnuts, pies, cookies and cakes. Definitely grabbed a few for later. The Apple Pie ice cream my hunnie ordered was delicious.
