A friend from Fincastle took me for dinner at this restaurant last week and we both loved it. It's located, as you might imagine, on the rooftop of The Pie Shop in downtown Fincastle. (Beware, you must be able to climb stairs to get up there-no elevator. There is downstairs seating as well for a "no steps" experience.) The food and cocktails were wonderful, the lovely seating (large and small tables, bar seating, and there's also a conversation pit sofa) was comfortable with shade available, and the place they kept the liquor for the bar was VERY cool (see photos). The menu included a wide variety of items from salads to sandwiches to fish to beef. We both had varieties of chicken salad - hers was warm and served in a bread bowl while mine was cold and served on lettuce. Both included thinly sliced apple (although the menu said grapes-but the apple was very tasty). They had a nice wine and bar selection. For dessert, there were six kinds of pie from The Pie Shop down below the rooftop! We both agreed we would love to return. If you're unfamiliar with Fincastle, it's a very old town founded around 1772 (thus the name of the restaurant). The courthouse (which is about to be rebuilt) which you can see from the rooftop was designed by Thomas Jefferson. The nearby jail and several other brick buildings are very old. If you drive around town, you'll see a Methodist Church built in the 1770s as well. Fincastle was the original seat of Boutetourt County, which stretched from Virginia through Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana in its initial form. The town hasn't figured out quite how to market itself even after all these years, but it's quite charming and worth driving around.

We always have a good time here. Bartenders make good drinks and the food is always good. Recommend the candied bacon salad, well actually anything we have ordered has been excellent. Used the pie shop for daughters wedding as groom hates cake but loves pie. They did a great selection and everyone raves about it. Recommend if in fincastle Make a reservation or sit at bar. Bartenders friendly and nice.

Pie, mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts

Delicious, great view, it's so fun to sit on the roof. Staff are wonderful and the pie is amazing. Love that I can take one to go for home.

I went to dinner with a few friends to the Rooftop. The food and drinks were really good. We had great service and the view is beautiful. I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant.

OUTSTANDING Restaurant, Food & Service! I drove in from Va Beach to celebrate Father's Day with my Dad who lives in Roanoke . A friend recommended this restaurant & I was so impressed. The entree's were excellent & cocktails perfect (pictures attached). The cherry on the top was the entire staff was amazing . We were greeted by a young lady that had a beautiful personality (didn't get her name but she had pink hair) , our server was Jessie. She was very attentive & patient with my dad who walks with a cane. The bartender was Ehro (not sure of the spelling) . Not only were the drinks excellent but very pretty. So good , we ordered another round. If I could give more than 5 stars I would . I highly recommend this restaurant & worth every penny.

AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! Cannot say enough positive comments about our experience here. We sat at the bar on the rooftop. Ihor and Kyle are extraordinary! They kept us entertained and were engaged with us the entire evening. I HIGHLY recommend the duck! We had an amazing experience. Fantastic atmosphere, delicious food, and the best service!

We checked out this venue after visiting the Sidecar in Roanoke, bar manager Shelley recommended if we wanted thoughtful cocktails. Rooftop bartenders Abraham and Kyle were attentive, gave great recommendations and made our hot afternoon visit worth the drive! Sous chef Bryce (sp?) provided appreciated discussions of the farm to table menu and food choices. The signature cocktails were well balanced and savory, even in the late afternoon heat- sampled the Roosters Lunch, Crew Juice and Arbory. Please check out the downstairs restaurant or unique aviation themed rooftop bar for a great experience.

It is said that valuable things come in small boxes, but never in my wildest imagination did I…read moreconceive of a place like Stellina. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Stellina, in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Stellina (which means "Little Star" in Italian) is a secretly hidden little bar within the very popular Italian Restaurant Fortunato, but with its own entrance through a door on the right of the restaurant. Its only indication of its name is a small letter board behind one of its front windows, stating its name and hours of operation. This bar was constructed with reclaimed wood from the Old Crow distillery and opened in December of 2016. Since then its gain a reputation as the ideal spot for hand-crafted cocktails in a cozy and intimate atmosphere. It seats only about 20 people, with 7 at the bar. Not that long ago it gained recognition by being featured in the New York Post as one of the world's best small bars. All that I can tell you about this place doesn't do justice to the experience of visiting the place for the very first time. After stepping inside, I was mesmerized by the simple yet effective, elegance of the establishment, complimented by the beautifully dressed young lady, server/bartender. Her elegant style and mysterious personality contributed to the character and ambiance of this one-of-a-kind relaxing place. The very hospitable young lady welcomed me and handed me the drink menu, while asking me if I also planned to dine there. I answered in the affirmative and asked her if they had any Mocktails. To my surprise, she pointed out that one side of the Drinks Menu were all non-alcoholic drinks, including mocktails, bottled mocktails, wine by the glass, and beers. I ordered one of the mocktails and by the end of my meal, I think I must have tried a few. She then brought me Fortunato's menu, and I ordered the Fritto Misto as appetizer and the Pork Milanese as my main entrée. I enjoyed both course immensely. A lady employee brought me the food from Fortunato's Restaurant through a door that led to the restroom area of Fortunato's Restaurant, pass the kitchen. For dessert, that Which I consider the "Grand Finale" of a wonderful fine dining experience, I ordered their Tiramisu and Hot Chocolate. They were absolutely mouthwatering. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to return in the near future.

Scored at the bar which worked fine for me. Service was lukewarm, but still ok. Service started out slow and improved. However, no check-ins were performed at all. I was given a cocktail and food menu. I knew I wanted an Old Fashioned and dropped an order for their lamb meatballs. Shortly after I decided on the eggplant Parmesan main. My drink with Rittenhouse Rye bourbon was tasty, just not much of it price at $17 steep too! I also ordered a specialty hot rum drink with pumpkin spice at $10 that was amazing! The meatballs hit quickly and were devoured! So yummy! About 15 minutes later the main dropped and was huge! Really quality and flavorful for a vegetarian dish. Overall the food was better than the service and prices were stretched. 3.5 rounding down due to service.

This was a rare gem! A gem that we really enjoyed. Our hostess was the best. She quickly seated us…read moreand told us about the "Tuesday Half Price the Entire Menu" day. Our group had been studying the menu prior to our arrival. We enjoyed nearly every cocktail on the menu along with one of their "special shots in an animal head shot glass". There was a little "show" with almost every drink. Even though we had already eaten, we couldn't resist sampling a few snacks. Each snack was unique. The baked potato skins had a spinach artichoke topping and the dumplings had a cayenne dust. The mini pizza was just ok. The service was the highlight of our experience. Our server was always there to make sure we had everything we needed. We hope to visit again when we are in town.

I wanted to share feedback regarding our recent dining experience to celebrate my son's graduation…read morewith family and friends as it was unfortunately very disappointing -- especially considering the price point and expectations presented for your restaurant and event reservations. First, the menu was extremely limited for both food and drinks. While the cocktails were enjoyable, the food quality and portions did not come close to justifying the $300+ we spent. We ordered the shrimp and wagyu skewers expecting thoughtfully prepared dishes. Instead, the shrimp appeared comparable to pre-made shrimp cocktail shrimp placed on a stick rather than freshly grilled seafood. The wagyu skewer lacked the quality and presentation expected from a fine dining establishment and honestly tasted more like beef stroganoff without noodles. I also ordered the lobster bisque, which was served lukewarm and tasted as though it came from a can. The Caesar salad with smoked trout was acceptable, but the trout resembled salmon more than smoked trout, and the dressing tasted bottled rather than house-made. What made the experience more frustrating was the lack of transparency regarding the menu prior to the event reservation. For a restaurant that strictly enforces reservations and cancellation fees, customers reasonably expect a much higher level of quality, preparation, and overall dining experience. Our server was kind, attentive, and did their best throughout the evening, so I truly appreciate their effort. However, much of the remaining staff appeared stressed, overwhelmed, and unwelcoming, which added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Overall, the experience felt far from the fine dining experience being advertised. The drinks were honestly the only standout part of the evening. I also have to mention that the food we received looked nothing like the photos posted online and in Google reviews. It genuinely made us wonder if there was an issue in the kitchen this evening, because the quality and execution were nowhere near what was being represented publicly. I sincerely hope this feedback is taken constructively because there is a significant disconnect between the pricing, expectations, and actual dining experience being delivered.

We stopped in Thursday February 5, 2026. The cozy space, complete with a locally painted on the wall, gives it a warm, welcoming feel. In speaking with the matrade we learned the name of the restaurant comes from the Native American word that has become Shenandoah. After 20 years in business it's clear this place has deep local roots. The staff was friendly and attentive. Kyle, our waiter, did a great job and worked seamlessly with his teammates to make the experience memorable. We started with cocktails -- my wife had the Sage Advice and I had a classic Manhattan. Proper cocktails for sure! The crème brûléed cornbread and sweet potato bisque were standout starters. Probably could have stopped eating after those starters...For mains, my wife loved the pork loin and I enjoyed the pan-seared trout. We finished with the banana mousse, which was absolutely amazing! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommend if you're passing through Staunton. definitely worth the stop.

An excellent and inventive restaurant in Staunton that punches way above its weight. My wife and I…read moretraveled to Staunton recently and were advised to try Zynodoa. The cocktail and mocktails were flavorful and well priced. Our waiter was great. Very knowledgeable about the menu, town and ingredients. We started with the Chicken Liver pate. This was well prepared, although I hate when a restaurant provides an odd number of toasts for two people. We asked for an extra piece and thought it was funny that they gave us exactly one. FYI- it comes with several accoutrements which were tasty, but the mustard was really the most satisfying. My wife had the brisket, which I would call a must have. Fantastic Asian spices, fried rice ball and Kimchi. Just an explosion of flavors. I was glad she shared. (This is uncommon) I had the pork chop and it was really pretty. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor and I had to carve off the fat which made up about 1/3rd of the chop. The bone was the other third...so it turned out to be a thick but modest cut. That said, it was on a lovely bed of mash and some of the best blue and white carrots I ever had. We finished with the carrot cake. (All of the desserts are made onsite.) which we learned was gluten free. Honestly if it was marked GF I wouldn't have ordered it. Anyway, when it arrived I thought we received the wrong thing. It looked like a decorative cliff bar. Once we took a bite we were blown away by the flavors and texture. It was delicious. Such a great experience. We were near the kitchen, so we got to see the head chef get orders out. There were some highs and lows, but the overall experience was really nice.
